CHAPTER 49 WELCOME BACK? II

DANIEL

I kept my eyes on the wolves. Gabriel took a step forward to them and they growled… They growled at him! He was the future Alpha King and they were growling at him! “That 's it!” Gur roared and even David in his human form roared at them. Then I felt something… Like if something was pressing on my chest, I took two steps back, the air was getting heavier, I turned to see Dave and he was doing the same thing. I looked at the wolves and they also took two steps back and had their heads low, their rude attitude was gone.

   -Shift back.

Gabriel wasn’t screaming but his voice penetrated my skin. I immediately started to shift back. It was painful, It was not my decision. As soon as I could open my eyes again I saw a bunch of naked men in front of me. They all looked confused and scared.

   -You are amazing Gabriel, you did this?

Dave’s voice was as excited as when Dad told us that we were going to visit other packs for the first time. “What happened?” “ I don’t know Gur you tell me, we just shift back!” “Don’t ask me. I didn’t start it, I lost control…” “So did I, and by the confused and terrorized looks of the men in front of us they also lost control of their bodies.”

   -Who are you?

One of the men said while looking directly at Gabriel.

   -I’m your future Alpha King.

Then a deathly silence filled the air. I could see scared faces, but they weren't doubting him.

   -Those are big words for someone who left their pack, and kingdom to their own luck.

I turned around and saw Beta Nathan.

   -But it’s good to see you, Prince.

Gabriel let a low growl out, he hated when someone called him Prince.

   -Where is your sister?

   -She is inside with your wife.

I knew Gabriel and the Beta weren’t best friends but this conversation was on another level. I was just waiting for Beta's answer but he just smirked and started walking towards the hospital. “That was it? He is letting Gabriel speak to him like that?” Gur was amazed. Suddenly he stopped and looked in our direction.

-The pack members that aren’t hurt get back in wolf shape and start checking the perimeters. New reinforcements are coming tomorrow, lets's have everything on point… Gabriel, I want to see you in my office before dinner.

Then he kept walking. The men were starting to shift back and started running back into the forest. When the last one was gone Beta Nathan opened the hospital door and looked at Gabriel.

   -And Prince Gabriel, deal with this situation, it was caused by you, you resolve it, I don’t want to see two of my best warriors crying when I’m out of this building.

He said pointing at the ball of three people crying. Gabriel didn’t answer him, just walked closer to Eva and her parents.

   -Come, Eva, hold my hand.

Nothing happened.

   -Eva Come on…

Again nothing. Then Eliot approached him while growling.

   -Get away from her…

   -Eliot…

I saw David running towards Eliot. “Follow him!” Gur shouted in my head and I started running. Eliot tried to punch Gabriel but David got in front and received the punch, when Eliot was about to deliver the second punch I grabbed his arm and used my claws to pierce his skin.

   -You are not touching him again.

As I said that I heard Gabriel whimper, I turned around and saw David with blood on his back.

   -Are you alright?

   -It's not mine…

I saw a puddle of blood on the ground. Gabe was grabbing his stomach meanwhile more blood poured into the ground.

   -Okay that’s it! STOP, you four fools are not helping.

Eva said while still crying and being held by her parents.

   -You know I love you Eliot and right now I kind of like the twins but I really don’t like seeing you naked… 

   -Eva, that's only three fools…

   -Shut up David! Gabriel, you are bleeding and I brought you here to be taken care of and if you are not capable of that then I will drag you there personally.

   -Dad please make sure these three are properly dressed and I will take Gabriel to the hospital.

-I will go with you…

Her Mom was looking at her as if she was going to disappear as if she was a ghost. I looked at David and he also noticed it. Eva grabbed Gabriel’s hand and dragged him inside of the hospital. Then Eva’s Dad brought us some clothes. I started dressing up while keeping an eye on them, I was still anxious, I knew them but something felt odd. Dave looked relaxed… I was just… I heard a noise and looked at the front where many members were staring at us.

   -Looks like we are not welcome anymore.

Dave said without a care. “How can we not be welcome?” Gur was also anxious and worried that at any minute the wolves would attack us. “Dave we should go back to Zeu’s side, we are protected there.” That was odd, Gur would never admit he needed someone's protection… But he was right, we weren’t safe here.

MARIA

Finally, Lucas had more color, and the doctor knew what they were doing, they were rougher than the human doctors I was used to, but I understood that was because wolves were more resistant than humans. I stayed supervising the process but Lucas was safe, and stable now. He just had to recover and regain consciousness, but I knew it could take some hours because he did lose a lot of blood. They left him in a private room. I heard a commotion outside, Gabe must be having some troubles. I walked out and saw the twins growling at some members that were just staring at them.

   -Stop that, come with me.

They looked at me and stopped growling.

   -They started it, they were glaring at us…

   -I don’t care who started it, David, we just arrived, we can’t be causing more trouble…

   -How did you say that? Look at you! You are injured! And it’s all their fault!

Daniel said pointing at my forehead.

   -Daniel you can’t…

   -My brother is right, when we were in the car the wolves started charging against it, Daniel jumped through the door and I followed him. We tried to protect you from the wolves but another one appeared and charged at the car then the car fell from the cliff. We couldn’t go help because we were fighting the three wolves that charged the car. But if they hadn't attacked the car, no one would be injured.

David said with a severe tone not typical of him. I was out of words… Everything happened so fast I couldn't remember it that well… I did see the wolves but then everything became blurry. Were we really attacked by our own pack? I kept walking while I tried to remember, I entered Lucas’ room and then the twins followed me. I was not sure what to do next… I was not going to be able to control the twins and less the pack members that I didn’t know… Why did this place change so much? Where did all those members come from? Every time I heard a door opening I thought it was my Mom or Dad, they hadn't come to see us… It was not like them, but maybe they have a lot of work with these new members or they haven't been told we are back. Then I saw Eva walking through the hallway. She had her Mom with her and her Dad followed them. 

   -Stay here and protect Lucas, I am leaving for a while.

I said as I left the room. I walked in the direction Eva took, I needed to ask her parents if they had told mine that we were here. Then I bumped with someone when I looked up I saw Beta Adams. He looked at me and smiled.

   -How are you feeling?

He said while he passed me his hand through my hair.

   -Maria you are injured… Doctor!

As he shouted, two people came running. 

   -Take care of her, It doesn't look like a deep wound but clean it and check her to see she has no more injuries.

   -Yes.

Then he looked back at me.

   -I need to go, but if you need anything ask the doctors and they will give you anything you need.

I was going to speak but the man took me to one room and started to clean my forehead.

   -Where are you from?

I said while I tried to remember him. The man stopped for a moment and looked at me, but then he continued cleaning my forehead without answering me.

   -Why are you ignoring me?

   -I don’t know you…

   -That’s why I want to know, what are you doing here?

He looked at me with annoying eyes.

   -It’s hard for the ones like you to understand.

   -The ones like me?

   -Humans…

I forgot I still had wolfsbane on me.

   -Try me.

   -We came to find shelter since the attack my pack couldn’t continue on its own, and the survivors were summoned to come here. Your Beta personally went and informed us of the decision, then he continued looking for affected packs. He hasn’t come back since.

   -But I just saw the Beta…

   -As I said, you can’t understand… Well, your forehead looks good, you could get a scar… Maybe I don’t know much about human healing, one of my female fellows will come here and inspect the rest. Stay here until she comes.

He then left the room and left me there. I looked around and the place was so familiar I couldn’t believe how much the people and feelings surrounding it changed. Then a woman entered the room and looked at me with the same eyes the other doctor did, they seemed annoyed.

   -Please lie on the bed.

I did as she told me. She then roughly started to check my body and press my skin with more strength than needed.

   -You were lucky, apart from some bruises and the wound on your forehead, you are fine.

That’s strange, why did I just have these small wounds… Gabe is in worse shape than me… The twins well they did leave the car before the fall… I tried to remember what had happened but it was all so blurry…

   -I want to speak with your Alpha…

She looked at me as if I was crazy.

   -He is kind of busy trying to fix the mess you made so that’s not a possibility.

She said and left the room. This place could look the same but the people and attitude were definitely not the same… My chest had a small pain but nothing that I couldn’t handle. I stood up and walked to Lucas’ room. Some people were standing in front of the door. I had to push my way through them and when I touched the knob they all walked away. I opened the door to a roar. Both twins had their ears out, they were on edge.

   -What happened?

   -They are everywhere…

   -They are surrounding us, we could be attacked at any minute. 

   -Yes, we are outnumbered.

   -We need to go back to Gabriel’s side.

   -The pack should be together.

They were both so insistent, That I couldn't say a word and I couldn’t say no, we needed my brother.

   -I will go and look for him… You two just stay here.

   -You can’t go alone...

   -Daniel is right, we are not liked here.

   -Yes! We need to stay together, Gabriel isn’t going to like it if you are walking alone with so many strangers around. 

   -I’m going to be fine, Eva…

   -Eva is a wolf just like them, you are a cat just like us and Gabe… right?

Daniel said to me, I was shocked. How did he know? He has never seen Nova.

   -You are more independent, you are not a clingy member, your attitude is different from the one Lucas and Eva have. You are like us, like Gabriel and our Dad.
