CHAPTER 48 - WELCOME BACK?

GABRIEL

I hadn't told the rest where we were going but the silence in the car was strange, but I was more concerned about how the pack would react, how Dad would react when we entered Royal pack territory. Are we considered rouges now? I saw the twins' lion ears showing. They were nervous, anxious, and I couldn’t blame them. We were really close to the pack's territory. I could feel Zeus getting agitated. I started to exhale to keep my nerves under control, but suddenly I felt a push on the car, it made us get off the road. I had to strongly grab the wheel to keep it under control. I saw everyone and they were holding on where they could to avoid hitting each other with the movements. Then a harder hit moved the car followed by another from the other side. I was trying to look at what was going on but all my efforts were on not crashing against a tree or a rock. 

-This needs to stop!

I heard Daniel’s voice, then suddenly I heard metal bending and another hit. The car hit something and one of the back tires exploded. I had to manage the movements but I wasn’t able to control them and the car started to spin around. I felt heat in my forehead. I used my nails to rip the car belt and then I had to crawl out of the car. I saw Maria. She was covered in blood… I walked towards her and saw her holding Lucas’ leg. 

   -Are you alright?

   -I’m fine but Lucas is losing a lot of blood.

   -Eva, where is Eva?

   -She… I don’t know…

   -How don't you know where Eva is?

I ran back to the car and checked it. It was empty. No traces of Eva or the twins. The door that was next to the twins was gone. “Zeus!” “The twins are fine in fact…” I heard a roar and looked up, the car fell from a small cliff and right at the top, the twins were fighting wolves! They were shifted into Fang and Gur and fighting. “Let’s go help!” “No! We need to find Eva!” “I can’t connect with Maple…” I tried to find her on the mind link but nothing… I tried to find her scent but she still had some catnip on her clothes so it was just impossible to track her. I looked up and saw Fang hanging from the edge of the cliff. As I ran, I was about to shift when one wolf knocked me out. I tried to stand up but he put his paws on my arms and he was growling at me. I didn’t recognize the wolf… He was not a member of the royal pack. I took a deep breath and he did have the smell of the royal pack, but his scent was not of someone I remembered.

   -Stop!

I screamed at him and felt the heat. I knew Zeus was also starting to worry about our lives. He was taking control of my body.

   -Don’t you know who I am?

The wolf just growled louder. “Why doesn't he just smell me I’m…” “Zeus, we are wearing wolfsbane… He can’t smell our scent!” Zeus was now really worried. We were trying to free our arms but the claws of the wolf just sunk into our arms even more. I looked around but saw no one close. “Gur can’t come! He is helping Fang!” I tried to mind link Eva but nothing! “Try to mind link the human. I can’t reach the wolf!” Zeus said as I tried to mind link with the human but it was like he didn't answer me… I could reach him but I couldn’t at the same time. The wolf’s eyes looked confused. Then I heard steps and saw Eva. She had dried blood on her arm and some more on her forehead.

   -STOP!

Just with those words, the wolf stopped growling and looked at her.

   -Get off him!

The wolf obeyed her… “Why is he responding to her and not to us!” As Zeus said that, he let go of control and I could feel my body back, the pain in my arms was increasing as it healed.

   -Eva, what’s happening?

As I got a better look at her, I saw some blood on her forehead and her clothes were ripped.

   -They didn’t kidnap me, so stop screaming on the mind link!

Eva yelled. “Mind link? I can’t hear anything.” I concentrated on my mind link and also nothing. Zeus was right. I couldn't hear anything. Then she started to cry, tears were falling from her eyes at an incredible speed. She turned and looked at one spot. She was barely breathing, then suddenly a grey wolf appeared, I knew by his scent who he was. Eva was still, she just looked at the wolf. Slowly the wolf approached her and sniffed her, then whimpers started to come out of the wolf and he rubbed his head against Eva’s chest. She was still not moving. As I tried to sit down I let out a soft scream, I saw my stomach and I had some glass embedded in it. Eva came running and looked at my wound.

   -We need to take you to the pack doctor, where is Maria?

At Eva’s words, the wolf started sniffing around. Zeus let out a growl and he looked back at us and growled back… “Did he just growl back at us?” Zeus was just as surprised as I was. He would never have growled back at us…

   -Stop that! Gabriel needs help! Help me take him to a doctor!

He came walking towards me.

   -No I can’t leave! The twins are fighting…

   -They are not fighting anymore, they are being escorted to the packhouse. Don’t worry.

Eva said while she held my hand.

   -Now Gabriel, please help me, let me help you.

I stood up and Eva helped me get on the wolf’s back. As he walked, I saw all the familiar surroundings. My heart ached at the familiar filing and, at the same time, so distant. This is not my place anymore. I couldn’t even look at the members that passed. This was no longer my place.

MARIA

I was keeping pressure on Lucas’ leg, he was losing too much blood, I could see his face losing color, he was unconscious and he also had other wounds, but none of them looked as deep as the one on his leg. Then I heard some noises. I looked back and saw a wolf, a dark grey wolf with beautiful green jade eyes. A wave of nostalgia rushed towards me, I started feeling some heat and noticed I was crying, we were safe now. I could help Lucas. 

   -Harvey, please help us…

His wolf approached us and let out a low growl. He wasn’t happy. I could see a fight in his eyes, then he suddenly started shaking and shifted back into his human form.

   -Maria, are you alright?

   -Harvey, I need your help, we need to take him to the hospital I need…

   -Why?

I was surprised by his answer…

   -Why? Because he needs a transfusion now!

   -If he can’t survive a small wound, why would we…

   -He needs help, Harvey!

   -What if his virus is contagious and infects me… I can’t risk my wolf, I need to fight, I need to protect the kingdom… I can’t be selfish anymore.

   -Harvey, please he needs help. I need help, this condition isn’t contagious. Trust me I know…

   -You don’t know! If you knew about it, you would have found a cure to it, and Nova would be back. Maybe he infected you! Haven’t you thought about that? He came to your birthday, then you felt awful and days later, when you were better, you couldn’t shift… Then Eva went and lived with you and she got the virus… 

   -That’s so wrong in many ways…

   -I’m not risking the kingdom for his life…

   -Harvey! Please, I promise you… I swear you are not going to lose Onyx. Help me, do it for me, take him to the hospital!

He still had a look of disbelief but approached us. He took Lucas in his arms and started walking. I walked along with him still applying pressure on the wound. As we arrived, I saw a wolf carrying my brother.

   -Gabriel are you alright?

   -Maria?

He looked surprised. I had to enter first and the people there didn’t look happy at all. In fact, they were all taking steps back as we passed. A man that I didn’t know entered, looked at us, and then let out a growl.

   -Get these humans out of my hospital now.

   -He needs a transfusion of blood and…

I tried to speak but he interrupted me.

   -We are not wasting resources on an unknown human.

   -Who are you?

As I spoke, he growled at me and then Harvey growled back at him.

   -Don’t you dare show your fangs to her and show respect!

   -You don’t have any authority here boy, so don’t give me that attitude and go help kill the intruders.

   -We are the intruders! And he needs help now!

As I spoke, he let out a louder growl than before and seconds later Gabe entered the door with his stomach covered in blood roaring. He ran at the man and pinned him to the wall. Now the man was whimpering.

   -Gabe let the man go!

I said as I tried to separate them.

   -Gabriel, he is the best doctor we have…

Lucas said but wasn't helping me at all. Then I saw Sabrina entering the room.

   -For the love of the Moon you are… It’s really you! Both! Alive! The twins?

Just as she asked, a bunch of screams started to come from the outside.

   -Amazing you five are… Well almost in one piece, what happened to Lucas? Gabriel, are you bleeding? Maria, you are also bleeding!

And that looked more to the Sabrina I knew. She walked towards Gabe, pushed him off the man, and then she pinned the man into the wall even harder than when Gabe did it.

   -THESE KIDS ARE MY LIFE. THESE KIDS ARE MY PRIORITY. NOW GO AND DO EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO AND PRAY TO THE MOON THAT THEY HEAL BECAUSE IF THEY DON’T, I WILL RIP YOUR HEAD WITH MY OWN TEETH.

Just the sound of her voice gave me chills. Then she let the man off the wall and he ran screaming indications.

   -I had it under control.

   -No Gabriel, you didn't, you don’t have things under control here, but you can keep your other two pack members under control or I will instruct mine to tie them up.

   -Two pack members?

I looked at Gabe, but he was just looking at Sabrina.

   -I will.

He then started walking to the main door.

   -I already informed their parents, they will be here tomorrow, so please keep them on their best behavior. 

I kept looking at the door, but not my Dad or Mom entered.

   -How are you doing? Are you in any pain?

As she moved my hair from my forehead I saw a glimpse of Lucas, and no one was coming. Right now, I hate this place.

   -Harvey put him on the table and went and looked for B+, just to verify it doesn't have a C on the bag, that is for… other species. 

I said as I decided to take action.

Daniel

The wolves kept surrounding us. Gur was roaring and Fang joined us. “Keep an eye on each wolf, I don’t trust them!” Gur’s voice was anxious… I know this place, this place was home but the scent, the feeling… Something was off, this place was not our home, this was not our place… Not anymore. “Gur I can’t contact the humans… It’s like they are not here.” “Same with the wolves, they are just…” One wolf growled at Fang and Gur turned and roared even louder. Then the wolf moved, covering two running persons. I saw them running towards Eva, who was standing out of the hospital looking inside. I haven't noticed before… “Gur that people could attack Eva!” “Don’t worry.” “How can you say that! Move and protect her!” I saw the people approaching her from behind and grabbing her with their arms. Then they started crying… The three of them cried while hugging. Then I turned back and saw Fang shaking. “Stop him, Daniel!” “What is going on?” “Fang and David are shifting into their human form!” “What! Why?” 

   -”Daniel, stop that! Stay in Gur’s form!” 

He kept shifting until he was in complete human form.

   -It’s alright Dany, look Kevin and Brittany are already here… Well, kind of…

He said, looking in the direction of the tears party.

   -”I don’t care, shift back!”

A wolf took a step closer to Dave and I jumped right in the middle of them and roared. I didn’t feel safe, and David exposing himself like this wasn’t helping.

   -”Shift back!”

   -No I won’t.

   -What is going on here?

Gabriel said as he opened the hospital’s door. He was then confused by the scene in front of him, three people hugged crying. He walked away from them and walked inside the circle of wolves where David and I were. 

   -Daniel shift back.

Was he crazy? Hasn’t he noticed the wolves that are surrounding us?

   -”No way I’m shifting back, We could be attacked at any moment.”
