Chapter 1
Loud sirens sound as the cryogenic pod roars to life thawing out the last of the crew aboard the Purple Comet, A late 70s model space craft. One of the first working ships before the world cracked. The cryo-stasis pod finishes thawing and opens with a “pshhh” of pressurized air. “Cough” I hit the ground hard trying to figure out what’s going on. Sitting up against the bottom of the pod, looking around wondering,” Why are all the lights off, and how come it’s still so cold? The computers should’ve automated life support once I woke up.” Out the corner of my eye the emergency blip on the screen at the desk repeatedly blips an alert, if only my legs would move then I could try to reach it or even see what its warning me about. It took me what seemed like forever to finally prop myself against the desk. “I guess my legs are still asleep from stasis.,” Anyway the screen continued to light up with the blip, so I press away at the buttons and it starts to run the basic system diagnostics on the ship.” There should be someone else here otherwise I wouldn’t have woken up, unless….”. As the Purple Comet runs its self-diagnostics a loud screech sounds throughout the entire spacecraft and the emergency lights turn on throughout the cryo-bay. I look around the room after the screech stopped finally feeling my legs,” where’d that come from, what’s happened to the Comet.” The computer reads that besides me the only other life form isn’t human, but it also says we docked… “why wasn’t I woken up then..I gotta get to the armory hopefully my blaster is there, but before I go,” starts typing away at the buttons to try and activate the main power through the console but it shuts down before I could finish. “Damn... must not be enough power, something’s siphoning it enough to cancel any attempt to even activate it at all...alright.”, I dust myself off and using the wall I make my way to the door and look through the curved window. It doesn’t look like anything’s in the hall, so I hit the switch to open the door. The door slowly stuttered up stopping half way “this isn’t good, this isn’t good at all.” After struggling to crouch under the door while still using the wall to prop myself up I see the armory door sign,” just have to get there and I’ll be alright.” My movement is slow getting down the hall, as I don’t want to alert whatever else is here,” SCREeech! “s**t s**t s**t shit.” I stand still motionless leaned against the wall near the armory door. “Almost there, JUST.…just wait it out”, My teeth sink into my bottom lip as the sounds come from various directions. “I need to know if the creature is using the vents or if it’s making holes throughout the walls.” Time passes, the sounds stop, and everything is silent. “I gulp and press the button to open the door to the armory.” The door stutters up half way, like the previous one I crouched through, no other sound is made just more silence. “I feel like I’m being watched now.” There’s even sweat forming on my forehead, I try to duck under the door without turning my back on whatever else was with me in the hallway. “Finally, the armory… what... no”, A good look around the dim slightly red Hugh colored room and it’s not hard to notice most of the weapons are gone and the ammo boxes are scattered all over the floor, “maybe they didn’t get it.” I limp to the table in the middle of the room and get to the side with the weapon rack behind me and the only door inside is in front of me, the cabinet door swings open as I try not to make it squeak and curious to see if my safe is unopened. “Yes,” A small sigh of relief escapes me, but immediate fear took hold when I realized This needed to be quick before whatever is here learns I’m here, if it didn’t already. The code was simple the launch of the comet “click click click click” it opened to reveal my trusty blaster and a box of plasma cartridges. I reach into it and load my blaster then pocket the extra cartridges just in case. “Now I gotta see what’s goin on in the cockpit maybe I’ll be able to see what brought this thing on my ship and to see if it’s possibly siphoning the power or not.” I take a deep breath and make my way back to the door but before my knees bend to crouch down something slithers through the hallway “SCREeech.” I have a small panic attack but was able to keep myself still incase it’s watching for movement. The creature that scurried across the hall, went towards the cockpit, “that things pretty big and what’s it done to the door.” Looking under the door with my blaster ready, I noticed that a weird slime substance was all over what remained of the door. I finally got the courage to move back into the hallway and slowly make my way through the slimy hole that the creature made through the door. As I stand here Everything Is normal, most of the controls are fine but the system that controls heating and cooling to the engines is covered in that same goo but this time there’s what seem to be…”a clutch of eggs...fuck, Screeeee” before the thing had time to finish its screech I fired my blaster twice managing to hit it. “Screeeech”, It starts to move toward me oozing slime from where I shot it, My trigger finger squeezes and I fire again trying to step back through the hole “shiiii” I fall as The blaster fires the third shot and it rips through the mouth of the creature as it leaped for me,.. landing on top of me. I yell out of fear and disgust “get off, you slimy bastard” shoving it to the side and getting to my feet aiming my blaster at it watching for movement. Minutes pass and nothing, I wait a while longer just in case and nothing.” phew, ok time to get rid of the eggs”. I put my blaster in my waist band, “since I haven’t found my holster yet.” And grab the creature by its tail and go to the airlock on the starboard side and lock it inside then launch it into space as I turn around and head back to the cockpit and it seemed that the lights coming from the opposite end were normal white light, “ ok so the power in the station is operational so it’s just my ship.” I continue removing the eggs into a trash can that was on its side lying about the cockpit which in all wasn’t a large room but enough for three crew members to operate the different systems comfortably. Anyway, I scraped away most of the goo on the heating and cooling systems into the trash can and make my way back to the starboard airlock “crack”,” huh... oh… no” I break into a full sprint to the airlock and toss them in. Right as the door closes one of the egg bursts open “SCREeching” …” slam” they get ejected out, “phew that was lucky”. Once they were launched and the outer airlock door shut, I made my way back to the c**k pit and activated the main console. I sat down in the captain’s chair and started pressing away at the various buttons on the console,” vrrrrr, systemzz at thirty percent…vrrr ...engine’s offline”. “Well I can’t leave but that doesn’t change the fact I don’t know where I am.” I continue to press the buttons on the console “Two maintenance droids deployed; power drainage problem set as high priority.” “I thought there was more, what’s going on here.” I press away at the buttons looking for camera recordings of what’s been happening since I’ve been in cryo-stasis.” “Vrr...video corrupted due to low power…showing what was recoverable at this point...vrr... starts showing a bunch of people who aren’t apart of my crew flying the ship. “Huh.” They seem to be soviets from the space suits, and they are fighting the creature after bringing it in from… vrr... rest of video corrupted…need more power and continued system repair to access full corrupted file.” “Due to the little info from what was recovered, not much was found out besides the rest of the crew is missing and the space station could be Soviet controlled and I’m unsure if the states made an arrangement or not but from the nerves in my stomach this isn’t gonna be good but I need more information and getting in that station will give it to me.” I continue to type away at the buttons and automate the rest of the repairs while I’m gone. Afterwards I stand up and search the rest of the ship for any other life forms or at least evidence of my crew leaving, getting to the cabin bay below the main hallway and before the cargo hold there isn’t much left besides my small room being untouched. “They must’ve left in a hurry; did they thaw before me?” As I searched the different rooms, I didn’t find anything to help me figure out where they left to or if they are even still alive. “well hope it was worth leaving me here alone. ”My knees click as I stand up “phew.” since nothing on the ship has been over looked I move to the port side airlock leading into the base. The closer to the door I got made a chill run up my spine making me a little nervous to approach, but I needed to know where I was, so I gripped my blaster in my right hand as I hit the button. “Sirens sound as the cabin pressure adjusts to the space station airlock and “pshhh”.” Opens revealing a lit room with stuff scattered all over the ground. At first my legs are hesitant to move expecting something to strike out at any moment. When nothing happens, I step inside and press the button to close the door. “Nothing’s getting on my ship without me.” I look around the room to see if anything’s useful and notice some lockers, an obscure amount of dust, some junk and decide to go through the lockers only to find out most of them are empty although there’s a first generation space suit, a slim red suit with a small communications radio on the front and average sized air tank, health monitor and life scanner. “Haven’t seen something like this since the academy... I wonder if it’s still around?... I’m keeping this.” I clean up the guard table and set the suit folded on top for when I come back. I go to investigate the hallway but Before stepping through the doorway I peek through; the lights are all on but there’s a robot that looks to be offline at the far end. “hmm I don’t think I want to go near that incase it registers me as hostile. Hopefully I can go this way.” I creep into the hall going opposite of the robot hoping it’s offline. Creeping down the hall I notice it opens into a large ballroom wall to wall with various computers and tables going along the room with different notes and experiments along them. “What the fuck.” None of what I see is recognizable besides the few computer, beakers and burners, but it all looks rather new and not caked with dust like the hallway was. “Someone has moved in, maybe those Russians?” My movement through the room is rather slow in case they have an automated defense system. Moving across the room as I did lead me to realize that nothings in this room.” Well I prolly looked stupid.” I move around to the different tables to see if I might be able to make anything out or if anything is recognizable, in the end there wasn’t much I understood so I moved on and checked one of the other doors in the room. The one opposite of the door I came in seemed promising, so I headed to it and peeked through the door first. This hallway’s lights were dim and there were a few bodies and another robot that seemed inactive even though it was holding what’s left of a torso in one of his grabbers over its head. “There’s no way around him.” The door slowly comes back down, and I move to the door on the left from where I am and peek through,” why are all these doors open.” Peering through the hallway I notice it’s dimly lit besides a room that’s lights are going haywire. “Hmmmm.” Sneaking through the hallway with my blaster ready, the lights start to get more spastic in nature getting more colors added to the mix. My body was telling me that something was wrong, and I wasn’t gonna like what I see. Peering into the room I notice a robot’s lower body rapidly smashing away at the console “thump thump thump” as its upper half lay in ruins. My eyes try adjusting to the light as I step into the room, as I do the thumping stops “That’s not good, is it sentient?” The robot proceeded to connect to the console and the screen comes on. “processing integral link…processing…. Hello.. I can hear you, …who is there…?” My body doesn’t move out of fear, “My name is Morgan my ship was docked here when I woke up.” The computer screen blanks for a second, “processing integral link…. processing…. Are you with…. the previous…Bzzzt… intruders who tried to attack us.” I start to feel somewhat relieved that they also were attacked,” No my crew were frozen aboard my ship till mission perimeters were met I woke up to a warning and no one else only a monster and footage of intruders taking my ship.” The room fills with silence for a few moments “processing…integral link…processing… your welcome to stay but if you try to take any of the scientific equipment…Bzzt… without correct authorization it will result in ……immediate... Bzzzt…termination.” The robot then unplugs from the screen and treads to a service hatch before disappearing behind a vent. Loud sirens blaring warning of incoming doom.” f**k you Siren I’m fixin it.” Slips out of the mechanics mouth as the lights flash and different dials go back and forth rapidly as the silver streak burns in a downward arch. “Warning…Bzzzt…warning crash imminent prepare for impact,” “No you loud cunt, I’m fixinggg.” As he banged and turned and soldered the various machine pieces and wires back together the silver streak slammed into a hard rock surface pushing up parts of rock and ship as it slammed and rolled along. “Well the cunts not fixed.” He screams in frustration. “Bzzzt... life support... failure imminent. f**k me!” The mechanic continued working on the ships systems. The various systems continued their warnings till a small explosion rocked the ship from the engine room. “Ah fuck.” He got up and ran down the hallway trying not to trip over the various metal bars, scraps and wiring everywhere trying to get through all the fumes. “Fuckin engine rooms full of smoke.” Feeling his way around the engine room walls he found the emergency shut down and coolant lever and pulled it, as the lever fell all the smoke in the engine roomed shot through a vent siphoning all the air out of the room. “f**k, gotta push...mph ...it back.” The switch slowly goes up then locks in place. “GASP... Gulp, Jesus f**k almost died.” Scanning the room, he noticed the different machines that were damaged in the crash and knew life support wasn’t gonna last long enough to repair it all. “This is gonna suck.” Josh ran back down the hall looking for the airlock due to the space suit stored there. As he looks for the suit, he notices the air lock was cracked open when the ship hit the hard surface. Air is being sucked out along with smoke through the slit in a consistent stream. “f**k it’s not closed.” As The mechanic frantically put on the suit he twisted on the helmet and the door breaks forcing him out onto the surface of the rock he crashed on.” Son ova biiiitch, where the f**k am I goin.” As the Mechanic launches out the airlock he bounces over the surface before slamming into something large and metallic.” mph that’s …gonna hurt...for a while...” he slides down to his ass on the flat surface noticing it’s made of manufactured material. “Well it’s just my luck.” he stands up dusts himself off and knocks on the airlock,” helloooo, anyone home. A feminine metallic voice answers...vrrr what is your identification. Mechanic 322140 Josh Noseworthy stationed to the Silver Streak…fuckin robot.” The door “pshhs” open, the mechanical voice chimes in. “Your permitted to stay as long as you repair the faults in our system food rations and tools will be delivered along with a data chip with a set of repairs, you have within the next 24 hours to start on repairs before forced jettison...vrr…do you accept.” Josh stepped into the airlock stretching and giving out a small yell as he did so.” sure why not id’ve been bored anyway, where the showers to.” As Josh started to undress from his space suit a small robot rolled up with a new mechanics suit and a tool chest motioning to him that these are his new clothes and equipment. “Well aren’t you an adorable little s**t, thanks bud.” Josh grabbed the clothes and tool box and started to walk down the corridor looking for the showers. On his way he finds a large room that looks like a cafeteria. while poking his head in he only sees one person sitting down. “Oy you the only f**k here besides the bots?” Jack looked up slightly startled not realizing someone else was there. “Yea I haven’t seen anyone else till you showed up.” Josh stood there for a second, “you know where the showers are to?” Jack responded kinda confused,” nah I woke up here on my ship I just found this cafeteria a minute ago after watching a robot slam itself into a computer.” Josh startled by this response puts the clothes under his arm and the tool chest in his left hand to scratch his head with his right hand. “The robots that asked me to fix everything?” Jack shrugged, “I dunno but I think that terminal is a map, I’m not sure how to work it though. I don’t understand the language.” Josh turned around and looked at the console and the various symbols on it, “hmm..., ok I might be able to figure it out I just need to shower first bud, see ya around.” As he turned to head through the door the small robot from before came and tugged on his pants leg, “…vrrr... follow sir.” He looked down at the robot still startled. “I almost punted you, you f**k! But alright I’ll follow you.” As he followed the bot, Jack finished eating his burger and started to explore again looking for main command to see if he can possibly find out this station’s location in the known universe. The hallways all looked similar and all the rooms were either filled with various supplies or science equipment none looking to be connected to the base nor even used for communication. “Where the f**k is main command.” Turning a corner, a slightly bigger door with a fancier door frame. “Hmmm maybe...” I hit the button and the door “pshhh’s” open, inside it’s a bunch of consoles with a giant center screen showing a map. Stepping inside the different machines light up “vrring” to life. “This looks like this is it, nice.” I sit in one of the chairs in front of the main console and blow off the top to access the various buttons, “strange I understand this terminal.” Typing away at the console he found out this station was originally a research station for the further development of different scientific projects and other classified information. The computer’s all start to “vrrr” again connecting to whatever systems and servers are still active after years of just sitting. “Let’s see now.” the typing is quick as I look for where we are in relevance to earth. Once finished I lean back in the chair to let the computer load it on the big screen, a lot of number go across the screen along with various diagrams of the base and how it’s built. The moment the screens loads the correct data ... “Oh no this must not be right I couldn’t have been frozen that long.” As the typing starts up again the screen and all the machines shut down and the lights shift to emergency power then flicker back to regular lights, but the computers stay off. “Damn.” A robot comes in from the door rather quickly after the place shuts down and resets. “Acquiring data, you don’t belong here foreign invader…. show yourself before destruction…. vrrr.” I turn around in the chair with my heart in my stomach afraid, staring this machine in its glowing red eyes. “Identify yourself …vrrr foreign invader!” I responded, “I told your other robot that I woke up from cryo-stasis with my ship docked here. “The robot stood for a second, “Vrrr... no record of the situation of which you speak has taken place…vrr. Other foreign invaders have been besieging us and you are without proper identification…Vrr prepare to be disintegrated.” My eyes widen as the robot switches from his regular grabbers to laser canons I grab my blaster before he finishes and fire multiple shots into its center panel before getting up and making a dash past it. Running down the hallway with my blaster ready struggling to think of a plan with the power outages goin on. “Oh s**t, where’s Josh!?” Finishing up his shower and putting on his new mechanic suit and boots, the power shuts off and starts showing the emergency lights and then flickered back to normal lighting. “Hmm gonna have to ask little dude where the power station is because that reset couldn’t have been good. Josh walks back into the hallway looking down at the little steward bot. “Hey bud you know where the power station is, yea?” The little robot doesn’t respond, then a small light flickers in its metallic eyes as it looked up. “Scanning... vrrr... yes sir, follow.” The little robot went off in a direction. So, he grabbed the tool chest and followed it down the hallway through a variety of corridors and compression chambers throughout the facility coming to a large room with giant nuclear generators with only one active and a lot of half destroyed robots standing guard with glowing red eyes and bodies around the generators. “Jesus, little dude what happened here.” As the steward bot stopped in front of one of the robots that wasn’t destroyed. “Vrrr scanning... access for repairs …granted... vrrr mind yourself we’ve been attacked by foreign invaders …one still exists, power failure has reset and shut down a lot of systems.” As Josh looked at the generators only one was badly damaged the other two were just shut off for safety from meltdown it seems.” He starts tinkering with the one that is active running basic diagnostics and checking the various exhaust and nuclear runoff. “It reuses the material as fuel…, how? oy tiny how can you do this without it contaminating the rods.” All the robots turn to face him and in unison. “Vrr…information is classified if you need instructions on certain repairs then ask but that is all you may get! …Vrrr... further questioning will result in immediate termination.” The robots keep him in their sights as they continue. “Confirmation is needed before immediate termination.” Josh shook his head and wiped it on his sleeve. “Message understood no further questions on how the machines work only how to fix it…I’m only a mechanic Mr. Robot.” The machines all turn around except the first one they came to. “understood... continue your repairs mechanic.” Josh goes back to his repairs on the still running nuclear reactor making sure the various wires and paneling are shaped right instead of being dented and loose like it was. “Do you have any power tools little dude.” The small robot sits still for a moment, “yes one moment please sir.” Then took off disappearing in the distance. A few moments pass before the steward bot comes back with another tool chest filled with various power tools. “Awesome now I can actually make some f*****g progress.” The nuclear reactor he had been fixing was finally starting to run properly and all that was left was to restart it to make sure it could shut down and reactivate without problem, but before he did he wanted to make sure the base had power in case the reactor didn’t come back on. So, Josh went to work on running basic diagnostics on the second and third reactor to make sure they were only shut off. Aside from some minor blast damage and a few cracked dials the other two were fine but he wanted to repair and replace the damaged parts before starting it in case he found damage under the panels. Pulling off the damaged panels and looking at the exposed wires and piping and fuses most of them were still in their harnesses and correctly connected. “Hmmm I still don’t understand how these reactors function at all but hey it looks fuckin mint to me.” He turns to the steward bot, “Try starting up the reactors little dude.” The steward bot sat for a second and then drove off and disappeared into a port in the wall. Everything suddenly shuts down then powers back up, all the robots eye’s change color to a soft purple then they started going to different ports in the wall. “Where the f**k? … guess I’ll go back to the cafeteria.” When Josh stands up the steward bot comes back, “vrrr... excuse me ...mechanic other systems are still down please follow.” The moment the robot finished his sentence Josh’s head slumped back as he moaned out., “But the powers on ya cunt and I haven’t eaten in a week little dude...” The robot doesn’t respond. “Are there any quick meals here?” The robot looks to as if understood, “follow please.” Josh stretched and begrudgingly followed the bot. “Better be a beer with dinner when I’m done.” The blasting started getting faster as more robots started coming out of various hatches along the hallway chasing Jack as he ran from the communications room. “f**k, f**k, f**k, Fuck.” Turning a corner almost losing my footing I saw lockers on my left and followed them, till I noticed one of the locker doors were ajar. “This is unreal why are there so many robots.” Getting in and closing the locker I Look through the small slits in the door and watch the robots roll through the hallway and leave one or two behind as sentries. “Hmm how can I get out of this with the least amount of issues.” Trying to look around the little bit of locker space I have, there isn’t much that could be useful in creating a diversion until something that didn’t sound metallic started to be heard in the hallway.
