Chapter 14. Gold’s Party
Leanne is looking at Linda who’s apparently at the kitchen, supervising the food preparation and the waitresses. They still got two hours before the party is starting.
“Linda, I’m sorry.. I got lost of time.” Said Leanne.
“Don’t worry, girl! Everything are on schedule..” Linda winked, “Oh, Cheryl is swimming now—also right on schedule. Sam is looking after her, and your costume—ugh, is already in your room” she added.
Leanne exhaled in relief, to hear everything is on schedule. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome!” she said, while organized a tray of small size cakes. She’s barely can hold her grins. “So, you have a nice ‘break’?” Linda’s teasing look obviously shown.
“What do you mean?” Leanne decided to help her.
“With Mr. Ace. I can’t help but noticed you were in his room for a while.. You go girl!”
Leanne is holding her breath in reflex--feeling ashamed too, she nervously replied, “It’s not like that! I-I just ate in—"
“Hey, I’m with you, girl! He seems like a nice guy! Very caring and all..”
“He just used to help people.” Leanne briefly said, she wasn’t dare to look at Linda’s eyes. She can feel her cheeks blush, and deep down she can’t deny that she felt a glimpse of joy from his caring act at her. But I can’t feel this way, I shouldn’t. Not to mentioned, that I could be misunderstood his intention.
“Mm, one people in particular!” Linda teasingly smiled.
“Can you stop, please?” said Leanne while smiling back. “In case you forgot, we just met his date, a few days ago! So—”
Linda’s ignoring her words, and still smiling in excitement by her vision of Leanne and Ace as a couple, she can’t help to kept teasing Leanne.
“O-kay, I’m gonna check on Cheryl, hopefully the next time we meet, those daydreaming bubbles of yours would gone already..” said Leanne before obviously rolled her eyes in front of Linda, along with her smile.
Just don’t think about it! Don’t make a big deal out of it! It could be just your assumption too. – She kept convincing herself not to feel anything about Ace.
“Leanne!! Did you see that?” Cheryl shouted from inside the kid’s pool when she saw Leanne approaching.
“See what? I’m afraid I didn’t get a clear few, back from where I’m walking..” said Leanne, smiling at Cheryl. She took a seat at a bench near the kid’s pool.
“I jumped inside the pool, and I can hold breath pretty long inside the water!”
“No way! That’s awesome!” said Leanne, giving her proud look at Cheryl before hearing someone else voices.
“Do you wanna try to swim with One?”
Leanne turned her head, instantly when she heard Ace’s voice from behind her back. He was standing there, with his bare-wide chest, and his above knee length swim-boxer.
His abs, his tattoo, his tan-colour skin—I can’t believe this is the second time I saw his abs. Leanne immediately looked away, feeling that she might be stared for too long already.
“YESS!!” shout Cheryl.
Cheryl’s giggles soon heard for almost every time. The three of them are having a great time together. Throwing tennis ball which will be caught by One, splashing the water, and playing with the water gun. Leanne can feel the warm feeling inside her heart, by looking at them, before her comes to realised that it’s not a very good idea, to stay there a while more watching at such a mesmerizing moment—or person.
Leanne comes to near Sam who’s babysit Cheryl at the time, she told Sam that Cheryl can only swim for another 30 minutes and Sam has to take Cheryl to her room, once the party is started—since it wouldn’t be appropriate for Cheryl to attend such adults-ambience party, before Leanne decided to leave the pool.
Leanne goes to her room, and type a message from her phone to G-boss’s assistant’s number; “Can’t meet to check in, today. Have to manage an inhouse event. Will inform you the exchange day a.s.a.p.”
She then took a quick shower, and listlessly wearing her costume dress for the event as Sharon’s request. This is very bad!—She thought. Considering of what Sharon’s meant by maid dress was, the off-shoulder maid dress. The lace collar with small pink ribbon is separated from the dress, meant to be the ‘necklace’ but also in theme with the maid dress costume. The half-mini-apron is white with lace that similar on the shoulder, and it is more like a decoration rather than to serve its purpose. The rest of the dress is in nude pink colour, its skirt is flare-skirt style with the length of common mini skirt. And of course, ‘the designer’ didn’t forget to give the head piece that similar with the themed too.
Leanne sighed, heavily, and decided to wear a black flat shoe again. There is no way she’s going to wear the high heels, adding some more sensuality into this costume. She let her hair loose, so it will cover some part of her shoulder. Soon after she had finished preparing herself, she goes out—passing through the outdoor stage for the band to perform, along with the pink colour events-tents, round tables, foods, drinks, the bags and ‘charity’ stuffs. Everything is set.
Leanne goes to the back kitchen, just to find every outsourcing waitress wear the same uniforms as she is, including her team Linda, Aimee, and another two girls. They are looking at each other listlessly, feeling the same without saying any words at all. They’re looking like a bunch of girls from the playboy mansion.
“Okay, let’s get this over with!” said Leanne faking her enthusiasm. They started to go separated way and do their job. In the same time Sam came inside the kitchen, she’s the only young worker in the house who’s not wearing the maid costume since her tasks is to babysit Cheryl.
“Sam, where’s Cheryl?” asked Leanne.
“She’s in the living room with Mr. Ace, I just want to prepare her meal.”
Leanne paused for a while, hearing his name, before continue to speak, “Yes, that’s what I’m about to ask you to do too.. Please bring the dinner to her room, let her eat there, and if she’s got bored, she can go to the playroom. But, please, avoid the party okay?”
“Got it.” Said Sam, she does what Leanne told her before leaving the room.
Leanne is in the middle of tiding up a few dirty plates on the island table, when the door opened and Ace came in. Instantly stunned—again—by the view in front of him.
He must be stunned for a while, until Leanne turned her back and faced him only to realise his darkened eyes looking at her. She startled a little—feeling lucky that she didn’t let the plate slip from her grip, and continuing putting the plates to the sink before speaks.
“Um.. What can I get you for dinner?”
Ace clear his throat. “I’m not hungry, yet.” At least not hungry for food. “Sharon’s themed of the party?” He suddenly feels annoyed, imagining the male guest would enjoying, staring at her.
“Y-yeah.” Said Leanne felt very uncomfortably shy. “Well, she’s the boss, and it’s for helping the people whose dream is to have classy branded things. VERY important.” Leanne rolled her eyes and spoke in high tone in sarcasm, unintentionally, before pausing and made herself behave. She is wondering though, what Ace’s thinking about her sarcastic behaviour.
Ace smirk before licking his lips, loving the way her emotion shows sometimes.
“Why not change task with Sam?” he said.
“The boss didn’t allow it. She wants me to be the one, who manage everything.”
“Calvin’s up to any of this?” Ace asked while looking at Leanne’s eye deeply.
She hesitated for a second, before replying. “No, but - - He always chose to avoid every possible fight that might happened, by working late like tonight.”
Ace’s look frustrated for a while, running his dark hair with his finger. Leanne assumed that he was thinking about his brother’s sake. Leanne have to join her team welcoming the guest, as she looked through the window at the party area. At the same time her phone is vibrating, Sharon is calling.
“I have to go..” Leanne moves in hurry, makes her red hair waving, attracting his attention on her more. His hand making a fist in reflex of his body stretched, just by looking at her. Damn it.—He cursed inside his heart.
Their eyes meet once again, before Leanne speaks while pointing at the microwave on the kitchen set. “Your dinner is in there, but if you want to try the party menu—”
“I’ll manage.” He said. “Thank you.”
Leanne gently nodded, she’s too caught up in his very cool—yet kind reply that made her stunned for a second, before leaving him.
