Prologue
Third Person's Point of View
Ice is a devoted son to his mother, never causing her any trouble. They may lack money or face other challenges, but his mother reassures him they won't feel deprived.
His days are filled with studying, returning home from school, self-care, and focusing on his studies again. He desires to assist his mother, but she refuses. Despite enjoying playing outside with other children, he chooses to study at home for his mother's sake. He consistently excels academically, despite their frequent moves.
In contrast, another family dines together but hardly speaks. One woman seems on the verge of tears while another appears content. Two others are there, lost in their meal.
"Two more weeks until then, you're too excited," May Villanueva said, seemingly indifferent to whoever is returning home.
Aira and her father exchange looks but say nothing.
"Why do we even need to remember her return? She could just come and work for the company. Why must we celebrate?" May, her sister, asked sharply.
"Being one of the most famous artists and models in the U.S., we should remember her. If we don't, the media will. Think about it," Aira Villanueva replied.
"I'm full, I have to go," he said, picking up his bag from the table.
This is the Villanueva family.
The Villanueva family is well-respected in business.
Jan is their eldest sibling. Wise, he follows in their father's footsteps. May is next in line to become CEO.
May, the second child, is the family's "old girl." In her mid-thirties, she hasn't introduced a boyfriend to the family.
Aira is seen as the perfect child among their siblings, but her mother cannot fully accept her. She strives to make them proud, excelling academically, leading, and consistently becoming valedictorian. She is also frequently mentioned as the one to take over her father's position, though her mother resists.
Ken, a sports enthusiast, is cheerful and easygoing. He admires Aira and is often by her side. Despite idolizing her, he keeps his distance due to his mother's rejection.
Miere, short for Meriam, is a renowned model, actress, and endorser, not only in the Philippines but internationally. She lives independently in the U.S., unaccustomed to parental attention, which she receives in abundance from others.
Mrs. Samantha is the household's mother, known for her youthful appearance and fashionable style. She seems unfazed by her husband's business stress. Despite their five-year age gap, Mr. Villanueva appears older, possibly due to work demands and focus on business expansion.
It has been two years since Miere left the country. She plans to return to work in her home country. Everyone is surprised, but Miere remains indifferent, including Ken, who understands the upcoming changes.
Their family, once again, draws attention from various circles. The siblings lament the loss of privacy, especially May, who values a quiet daily life over public scrutiny.
Raised in luxury, the family never lacked material possessions but struggled to communicate. Despite living under one roof, they interact as seldom as summer raindrops. They gather briefly and often clash.
"Goodbye," a woman politely said as they departed one by one, ending breakfast.
As mother and daughter happily walk to school, chatting about their day, they have a long journey ahead. Ice accompanies his mother to ensure her peace of mind, despite his reluctance.
Ice deeply admires his mother. Despite her single-handed support, they lack nothing. He respects and loves his mother immensely, striving to fulfill her wishes and keep her happy.
In life, happiness isn't solely about wealth or a perfect family. Even with just one or two people who understand each other, a family can feel complete.
While others may find happiness in wealth, Ice finds contentment in having food on the table and pursuing his dreams, aiming to provide his mother with a comfortable life.
