[ Seline ]
I didn’t know why I got dressed like a real feminine beauty and joined my parents and brother to this ceremony where I could only see strangers wherever I look. The courtyard of the packhouse was busting with music, the hushing and talking of people. Especially, the youngsters of my age were beaming with excitement of finding their mates tonight but my mind was somewhere else.
Those mystical golden eyes.
My facial muscles had turned sore due to frowning too much. I didn’t feel welcome because I received envied stares from the girls and lustful glances from unmated wolves.
“Mom, can I go and grab a drink first?” I tugged on my mother’s elbow, I really felt suffocated.
“Later, Seline because we are going to meet the Alpha and his family first. They are really eager to meet you, especially Jayden who called your brother many times since evening to know about your arrival.” Mom grinned like a teenager but I didn’t feel anything.
“I suppose, I had to bear with this ordeal.
“Seline, is that you?” I heard a girl’s shrill voice and it forced me to turn in the direction of the source.
There stood a tall, lean and breathtakingly beautiful girl with enchanting pale blue eyes. She was smiling widely at me.
“Lily?” I frowned and in the next moment, I was in her arms.
“Oh My God! Is that really you? I thought I misheard rumours among the girls who were talking about a Cinderella at the ceremony who is absolutely gorgeous and she isn’t from our pack.” She said with sparkle in her eyes.
“I think you’re the prettiest girl here. I bet every unmated male would dream of having you as their mate.” I smiled and we heard a faint snort from our side.
It was my brother whose jaws hardened and Lily blushed. I smiled inwardly. They’d make a perfect match.
“Girls, you can catch up later. First; we need to greet the Alpha who is waiting for us.” My father said.
“I’ll see you later, Seline. I have to tell those jealous girls that the Cinderella is my best friend and there is someone who is getting impatient to meet you.” Lily winked at me and left while we moved towards the canopy where the Nash family was surrounded by the others.
We approached the Alpha of our pack who looked much older than his age. His wife was standing beside him, receiving greetings from others. My parents bowed to them, my brother did the same and I copied them.
“I apologize for being late, Alpha. Actually, my daughter arrived a couple of hours ago.” My father said to Alpha Jason in a polite tone and the couple’s eyes wandered on me, they seemed to observe me from top to bottom and it made me feel really uncomfortable.
“Seline, what a beautiful young woman you have grown into?’ I heard Luna Jesse saying and I smiled awkwardly because it was more like a reminder than a genuine praise.
“Thank you, Luna.”
“Beta Lucas, our wait is worth, your daughter is finally here and we can’t wait anymore before introducing Jayden to her.” Alpha Jason said to my father with a relieving smile. It felt like he was afraid of something, there was impatience in his tone.
I cringed at his remark, everyone was treating me like a priceless relic at an auction but what disappointed me more, was my parent’s silence. It was unfair and nobody knows who was my destined mate, he could be an Omega. I’d accept him with all heart.
The Alpha cleared his throat to gain our attention, I could see sweat beads on his forehead even in a chilly winter night.
“We can’t delay the ceremony anymore, Lucas. He has been seen around our borders lately.” Alpha Jason said to my father in a grave tone.
Who is ‘he’ again?
My parents’ eyes dilated and all I could see pure fear and panic in their eyes.
“Where is Jayden? Call him here, in ten minutes, the moon will be on full bloom. I hope Seline and Jayden find their mates in each other so we can complete the mating ceremony tonight itself.” My Dad replied him in a wavy tone. Fear was evident in his tone but it made me frustrated.
“Dad, can we talk in private?” I asked him and signalled him to come in a corner but he avoided looking at me.
“Seline, this isn’t the time for this. We are in danger, especially you, if you don’t mark Alpha in line tonight. Mate or not, you must accept Jayden as your mate or we all will be perish by the hands of the devil himself.” My mother said to me in an equally terrified yet firm tone.
“This is ridiculous. I mean how can I mark someone who isn’t my mate and who is this devil? What’s going on? Somebody, please tell me or I’ll go crazy.” I let out my frustration in front of them all and in return I heard a warning growl from the Alpha and my brother.
“Watch your tone, young lady. Do not forget that your Alpha is ordering you and this is the only way we can be saved from being destroyed by the hands of Hades.” Alpha Jason reprimanded me in his Alpha tone and I bowed in surrender. He was an Alpha who could kill me in a snap.
“Who is Hades?’ I asked my father, this time in a polite tone.
“The infamous Alpha of the Black Shadow Pack, all the wolves of that pack are in black colour and they are messengers of death, who raid the smaller packs to prove their dominance and unmatchable power. Sebestian Steele whom everyone calls Hades, is the most cruel and heartless who invaded our pack thirteen years ago when we had to send you away, Seline. He raids and destroys packs every year when he doesn’t find his mate. At the age of thirty, he is still mateless and we fear, this time he is lurking in our territory.” Dad explained me the reason of this blasphemy.
My mind wandered off to the black shadow with golden eyes in the woods and my heart shook with fear.
“I think I have seen him in the evening.” I blurted out and their eyes snapped at me, with shock and fear.
“Oh no! We can’t waste more time. The Beta’s daughter must mate with the next Alpha. We all know that you are a rare black female wolf, Seline. Hades must not know about this. Darling, we are doing this for your own good.” Dad said to me, vulnerability clearly dripped from his tone but they were more concerned about their community and existence than me.
I excused myself from there to catch some fresh air. It was unfair and unethical. They were desperate to go against the wish of our Goddess who decides our mates.
I was wandering aimlessly among the noisy crowd when I bumped into a hard chest and lost my balance but I didn’t fall but a strong male scent hit my nostrils. When I lifted my eyes, I met with a pair of beautiful pale blue eyes, similar to Alpha Jason and Lily’s.
“Are you okay?” The handsome young boy asked me, his soft locks were falling on his face. He was definitely the most handsome young man I saw in the pack.
“Yeah, I am good and sorry I wasn’t watching.” I steadied myself on my feet and apologised to him.
“It’s fine, Seline. I can’t believe you have grown into the most beautiful girl I have ever seen and soon you’ll become my mate.” I heard him saying with a confident smile and my eyes snapped at him.
“Jayden Nash?” I frowned and he bowed like a gallant, showing off his muscular body and I could tell all the females were drooling over him but that’s not the case with me.
“Yes, Seline but in a few moments, I’ll become your mate and Alpha. We’ll become the most powerful couple.” He continued with his self boasting and at this point I wish he isn’t my mate because I can’t stand his ego.
“I didn’t recognize you. I think I should go back to my parents.” I said and tried to walk past him but he caught hold of my wrist. My whole body shuddered and I fought my urge to punch him on the face.
“You can’t disrespect me, Seline. I have waited for you for a long time and now, you must accept me with your heart and soul.” He gave me a hard look, his eyes turning dark.
“I didn’t disrespect you, Jayden but you must respect the line I have set for everyone which you obviously crossed.” I used the same firm tone if he thought he could play with me like a doll.
His glare transformed into a sly smirk.
“I’ll find the pleasure to break this ego of yours tonight when I’ll claim you as mine, Seline.” He said and eyed me from top to bottom. I felt disgusted and powerless as well because I didn’t want to see my family in any danger.
He was about to grab my hand once again when an earth shattering growl shook the sky. It was primal and the deadliest. I yanked my hand and rushed towards my parents as the others also scattered here and there when the growls became louder and scarier.
“Seline, run to our house and leave the pack. Hades is here with his wolves!” My Dad shouted as panic gripped me. I was rooted on my spot.
Soon, in a blink of a moment, large, furry black wolves surrounded everyone.
Fear rippled through my heart.
Hades was there.
