[ Seline ] Just as I was about to move forward, I was yanked back and my Dad pushed me behind a pillar, his face morphed with fear. “Dad, what’s going on?” I asked him being equally panicked. “Shh, don’t speak and run to our house and leave this pack with your uncle and aunt. Hades is here again and if you turn out to be his mate, the possibilities are high since you’re a bla-” He paused as he realised he was about to reveal my identity as a black wolf to the other ears. “Just go away, Seline. We can’t protect you from him and his merciless wolves.” His voice wavered. I had never seen him this weak and helpless. My gaze roamed around and I saw the pack members surrendering to those giant beasts, their growls pierced through our people’s terrified silence. “Dad, I can’t leave my family when they need me.” I sobbed. “Try to understand, Seline. Nobody can protect us now. Hades raided us thirteen years ago, we survived that time but I don’t think he gives second chances. Save yourself, Seline.” He kissed my forehead and I hugged him. I didn’t know it’d turn out to be this horrible situation. My gaze travelled to my Mom and brother who were in the que with others. Dad pushed me behind the bushes. I didn’t want to go but my father gave me his swear and said their efforts of years would go in vein if I die tonight. We were big creatures, with our massive , fast bodies and unmatchable powers, we’re fast and violent but there are others who are superior to us both in power and dominance. I tried to sneak, my eyes fell on the same silhouette but this time it was walking in the light and its size made me freeze on my spot. It was the most huge and muscular wolf with shiny black fur and sharp canines. Its amber eyes staring at me. Holy s**t! It’s coming towards me with its predatory steps and low, heart twisting growls. “Seline, I don’t think he’d hurt us.” I heard my wolf’s voice. It shocked me even more. She doesn’t trust someone easily and here she’s saying the devil ‘Hades’ whom even the most powerful Alphas fear, wouldn’t hurt a fragile girl like me It was just a few steps away from me and every single fibre in my body scream to run and save myself but I kept standing there like a statue. It rounded me and sniffed me, surprisingly it was calm, not growling like before but it didn’t mean that I wasn’t scared anymore. “Do not hurt my daughter, Hades. Kill me instead.” My father’s voice sliced through the thick air. Hades’ head turned in my father’s direction and he growled again, it didn’t sound good. A warning for my father to surrender. I shook my head at my father to keep quiet with teary eyes while the black again inspected me. Suddenly, it took a few steps back and sound of bones cracking and the black wolf soon transformed into a tall almost 6’2 feet, muscular man with short raven- coloured hairs, tanned skin, sharp jaws and almond shaped eyes with gold pupils. Undoubtedly, he is the most handsome man I had ever seen. Those golden eyes stared back at me. “Mate!” “Mate!” Hades and Rose said simultaneously and I was numb to react. It can’t be possible. He moved with precision in my direction and I couldn’t process anything. How could the fate be playing this sick game with me? The infamous Hades can’t be my mate of all the female wolves. “What’s your name, mate?” His smooth voice reached into my ears and his scent a mix of rainforest and sweat filled my senses. Rose howled in delight. When he didn’t receive a response from me, he sucked a deep breath, his calmness was more terrifying. “Mate, I think you do not know me or you’re mute. I hate to repeat my words and you’re possibly the first person who disrespected me in all these years. I am your mate, Sebastian Steele, these weak fools call me Hades and I prefer to be labelled as a devil. But for you, I am your mate. Now, tell me your name.” he said. When I finally dared to look into those golden eyes with my leftover courage, I felt weak and drawn to this beast. I could pass out any moment when his lips curved upward slightly. Something was lethal about his charismatic personality. He was a slayer. “Se...Seline.” I managed to utter my name in a mere whisper. “Beautiful name for my mate.” He said in much softer tone and took another step close to me but I flinched back. “Don’t be scared of me, Seline. I am not going to hurt you. I have waited for you for a really long time.” He said, I could feel a hint of longingness in his voice, like he truly meant it. “Hades! You should leave her and this pack at once. You’re not welcome here and she’s mine.” Jayden jumped in out of nowhere and Hades’ head snapped in his direction, his golden eyes again turning dark amber, a guttural sound escaped from his throat as he left my vicinity and lunged at Jayden. Fear again gripped me. Although, I hated when Jayden claimed his right on me. I belong to no one, neither Hades nor Jayden but he’s Alpha’s only son and if he’s dead tonight by the hands of my mate, the blame would fall on me. I don’t want to be the reason of someone’s death. “I should kill you, little princeling for everyone to see how Hades treats someone who disrespects him.” Hades grabbed Jayden’s collar and raised him in the air. “Please, Hades, leave my son. He’s my only heir.” Alpha Jason fell on his knees and begged for his son’s life but Hades seemed determined to kill Jayden. I rushed to him and placed my hand on his shoulder, “Hades, please leave him. He’s my friend and cares for me but if you kill him, I don’t think I will be able to forget the sight. I haven’t seen violence in my whole life, so keep me away from the nightmare.” I tried my luck and hoped he understood. Jayden fell on the ground, coughing and trying to catch his breath, his parents rushed to him. Hades turned to me and his features soften again. “I have fought many battles, killed thousands in a snap and ruled over the largest pack un challenged but I never yield to someone before. Only you can do this to me, mate.” He smiled and if I wasn’t super afraid of him, I’d be fluttered. Suddenly, I heard a growl and my head snapped in the direction of Jayden, he had shifted into his wolf form and pounced towards Hades. My eyes widened in horror and I bet his parents almost fainted. But in the next moment, Hades knocked him on the ground and snapped his neck, his head fell limp as the sound of bones cracking echoed in the air. Jayden, who tried to provoke the notorious Hades, laid dead on the ground. Hades hadn’t to do much. I gasped as those dead eyes stared back at me. It was the first time I saw someone getting killed. My leg felt weak and I slipped on the ground. The wailing of mourning parents and mortified faces began to haunt my soul. A merciless beast who killed a teenager, a decade younger than him when he could forgive him. He slayed my innocence. “It’s not our mate’s fault, Seline. Jayden was about to attack you and Sebastian only tried to save us.” I heard Rose’ quiet voice in my head. I shook my head. No matter what the reason was, I had never seen a determined and feral madness in someone’ eyes before. “Try hurting or questioning my mate, you all will meet the same fate as this poor princeling.” Hades’ voice roared in the sky. “You have to kill me if you want to take my daughter away from here.” My father dared to defy him and I froze to death.
