Another attacker lunged. Lia slipped near the edge of a broken floor.
She fell.
Kai dropped everything and grabbed her wrist.
“I’ve got you!” he yelled.
She looked up, terrified but trusting. “Don’t let go.”
“I won’t.”
He pulled her up just as the system beeped.
The humming stopped. Lights shut down.
Silence.
Police sirens filled the distance.
Lia collapsed, laughing and crying. “We survived.”
Kai sat beside her. “Barely.”
They shared a quiet moment amid the wreckage.
For once, chaos was gone.
Morning arrived calmly, like nothing happened.
The tech was secured. The villains arrested.
Lia sat on a bench with coffee. “So what now?”
Kai smiled sadly. “I turn myself in.”
Her heart sank.
“But first,” he added, “I owe you food.”
They ate noodles, laughing like normal people.
Kai stood. “I’ll find you again.”
Lia rolled her eyes. “You better.”
He squeezed her hand gently. “Thank you.”
She watched him go, knowing this wasn’t goodbye.
Weeks later, Lia was late again.
She turned a corner—and collided with Kai.
“Wow,” he said. “You really like tackling me.”
She laughed. “You keep standing there.”
“Coffee?” he asked.
She smiled. “As long as there’s no running.”
“No promises.”
They walked together, chaos behind them.
Sometimes love starts with danger.
Sometimes it starts with a crash.
