The rooftop wind hit them hard. Below was the city. No escape.
Kai scanned the skyline. “Control tower. Three blocks.”
“And how do we get there?” Lia asked.
The case popped open. A drone unfolded and hovered.
They stared.
“…You forgot to mention flying,” Lia said.
They climbed on badly and soared across the city, screaming and laughing. Lia clung to Kai, heart racing.
“I’m never doing this again!” she yelled.
“You’re doing great!” he replied.
Shots fired below. Explosions echoed.
They crashed through the control tower window and tumbled inside.
Alarms blared.
Kai rushed to a console. “One minute!”
Lia grabbed a pipe. “I’m officially panicking.”
Men stormed in. Lia swung wildly, somehow knocking one down.
“I DIDN’T PLAN THAT,” she yelled.
Kai shouted, “Almost done!”
The room shook.
Chaos chased them—but they refused to stop running.
