MY ALPHA FATHER'S BEST FRIEND 6

980 Words
MAYA I wake up to the smell of bacon and coffee, and for a second I’m confused. Then I remember—Damon’s here. I smile into my pillow, remembering the shirt I left for him. I wonder if he found it yet. Wonder what his reaction was. The thought makes me squirm with arousal all over again. I throw on a sports bra and the tightest yoga pants I own…the ones that are practically see-through when I bend over and one of those cropped sweatshirts that shows my stomach. Then I pad downstairs barefoot. Damon’s in the kitchen, standing at the stove, and the sight of him makes me stop in the doorway. He’s wearing jeans that hug his ass perfectly and a gray henley with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows, showing off his forearms. His dark hair is still damp from the shower—from my shower and he hasn’t shaved, so his jaw is covered in dark stubble. He looks domestic and dangerous all at once, and my wolf is practically begging me to go rub against him. “Morning,” I say, leaning against the doorframe. He turns, and the look he gives me is scorching. His eyes travel down my body slowly, lingering on my exposed stomach, the curve of my hips in the yoga pants, my legs. When his eyes meet mine again, they’re dark. Almost angry. “Morning.” His voice is rough, deeper than usual. “You made breakfast.” “Figured you’d be hungry.” He turns back to the stove, his movements sharp. “There’s coffee.” I pour myself a cup and hop up to sit on the counter next to where he’s working, making sure my sweatshirt rides up even more. “Sleep well?” I ask innocently. His jaw clenches. “Fine.” “Me too. Had really good dreams actually.” I watch the muscle in his jaw tick. He knows exactly what kind of dreams I mean. “Did you find everything you needed in the bathroom?” I ask, taking a sip of coffee. He flips the bacon with more force than necessary. “Yeah.” “Good. I left some stuff out for you. Hope that was okay.” The spatula clatters against the pan. He braces both hands on the counter, his head dropping forward. “Maya.” My name comes out as a warning growl. “We need to talk.” “About what?” He turns to face me, and the look in his eyes makes my breath catch. Heat and anger and want all mixed together. “About boundaries. About appropriate behavior while I’m staying here.” I set my coffee down and tilt my head. “What did I do?” “You know exactly what you did.” He steps closer, crowding into my space. I have to tilt my head back to look at him. “The shirt, Maya. You left it there on purpose.” “Did I?” I bite my lip, watching his eyes track the movement. “Maybe I just forgot to put it back.” “Don’t play games with me, little wolf.” His hands come down on either side of me, caging me in. “I know what you’re doing.” “What am I doing?” My heart is pounding so hard I’m sure he can hear it. “You’re trying to drive me crazy. Trying to make me lose control.” His face is inches from mine now. I can feel his breath on my lips. “It’s working.” “Which is good.” I lean in closer, my lips almost touching his. “Maybe I want you to lose control.” For a second, I think he’s going to kiss me. His eyes drop to my mouth and I see his control wavering. Then he pushes back abruptly, putting distance between us. “No.” He runs his hand through his hair. “This isn’t happening, Maya.” “Why not?” “Because you’re Rob’s daughter. Because I’m supposed to be protecting you, not…” He cuts himself off. “Not what? Not wanting me? Not thinking about me?” I slide off the counter and walk toward him. “I can smell it on you, Damon. You want me just as badly as I want you.” “What I want doesn’t matter.” “Yes, it does.” “No.” His voice is firm, Alpha command seeping into it. “It doesn’t. You need to stop this, Maya. Stop pushing. Stop testing me. Because eventually I’m going to snap, and when I do…” He stops himself again, jaw clenched so tight I can see the muscles jumping. “When you do what?” I challenge, stepping even closer. His eyes flash gold. “When I do, I won’t stop. I’ll claim you completely. Mark you. Make you mine in every way. And there’ll be no going back from that.” The words send heat flooding through my entire body. My wolf is howling, begging me to bare my throat to him, to submit, to let him do exactly what he’s threatening. “Maybe that’s what I want,” I whisper. He closes his eyes like he’s in pain. “You don’t know what you’re asking for.” “Then show me.” “Maya…” The sound of vehicles pulling up outside cuts him off. Multiple vehicles, from the sound of it. Damon’s immediately in Alpha mode, his whole demeanor shifting. He moves to the window, looking out. “Who is it?” I ask, coming up beside him. “Pack members. Looks like… shit.” “What?” “Your friend Sera’s here. And she brought half the unmated males in the pack with her.” Oh no.
