Chapter Fourteen

F O U R T E E N Kayden threw his cigarette to the ground, grinding into the ground with his boot. The silence made me anxious but so did words. What should I say? Should I say anything? He held eye contact with Hunter for about 5 seconds before he turned and began to walk away. What was Kayden doing here? How did he recover so fast? I notice Hunter looking at him confused, perhaps he was wondering the same thing as me, is Kayden okay? Most importantly, I was told that he was dead. By X of course, yet that didn't make sense. What kind of game is X playing? X clearly stated that Kayden was gone but why would X say that if Kayden randomly appears back to school, acting as if nothing happened. My eyes widen as I notice Isaac walking to school in crutches, he was back too? Isaac noticed me as he attempts his best to walk towards me, I decide to walk towards him. "You recovered quick." I say slightly shocked, but what shocked me more was that Kayden was already recovered. "I've heard about what happened to Kayden, straight after I got transferred into another hospital he got attacked." Isaac says as he clutched on to his crutches. "I know, he's back in school now- I don't know how he got shot twice and able to attend school." Isaac looks confused as he notices Kayden walking with no pain evident in his facial features. "How?" Isaac trails as Kayden looks at his phone, I didn't know either- I was as confused as Isaac. "Are you alright Isaac? I mean you just got hurt as well." I look at Isaac in concern, pain was evident in his face yet he still is bothered to attend school. "I'm alright." He confirms. Isaac smiles at me, "Thanks for asking." "Oh Isaac did I tell you about the fourth clue?" I tell him, he shook his head as we both walked towards the entrance of the school. His face pales, "Cassiel Black right." He glances at me. I nod my head as he forces a smile, "It's going to be hard for you to get the fourth clue out of him." Isaac states, something about his expression seemed weird. I'm probably overthinking things like I always do. "I mean he's my friend now, that's a start right?" I look at Isaac, he fails to meet my eyes. "Good for you." He mutters before opening his locker, a ton of letters fall out. "Would you mind getting those?" He looks up at me, I nod my head as I bend down to pick up the letters. I frown at the letters, they were Christmas cards from all kinds of girls. "You get these still?" I ask him handing him the letters. He chuckles, "I find it nice that they place effort." he responds. "There's a lot of letters." I point out as Isaac smirks, "I can clearly see, Isabelle." My phone vibrates, I sigh as I grab it. It better not be who I think it is. I look at the screen of my phone, it was a message from Cassiel. I let out a sigh of relief realising it was only Cassiel. "He seems interested." Isaac mutters looking at the message. Wanna hang out with me and my friends? - Cassiel. Cassiel had given his number to me the night before. "Clearly not, he's including his friends." I say as Isaac chuckles humourlessly. "Don't fall for him Isabelle, after you find out the fourth clue I doubt you'd even want to talk to him." Isaac tells me as I notice him clutch his stomach. "Damn it." He hisses as he clenched his jaw. "Are you okay?" I say placing my hand on his back, he nods his head. "It's probably a random cramp, it happens." Isaac lies. He shivers slightly, I look at him confused as he removed my arm from his back. "Let's go to class." I nod my head as we both walk towards our first class of the day, Math Ap. I wasn't bothered to go through a whole lesson of solving things- like solving for X. The letter X caused shivers to go down my back. X could be anyone, someone I know- someone I could've spoken to once in my life and I would've never noticed. That's how crazy the situation has become, I can't trust anyone. Not even the people I genuinely find cool. It's safe to say that I can't be myself near anyone due to the fact they could be X. "Isaac." I murmur, we take our seats in the class. We sat beside each other: he turns to look at me and mouths the word what. "I remember you telling me you know the second person, the other person who is out to get me." I look at him slightly confused how he didn't bother to tell me all this long. "It's --" Isaac didn't get to complete his statement as Kayden walks into the room, he takes a seat beside me. He sends me a smirk as the teacher walks into the room. What the hell? I look at Isaac, gesturing him to continue. His eyes darken as he notices somebody in particular walk into the room. It was Cassidy. She ignores his glance as she takes a seat near the back of the classroom. Aren't Cassidy and Isaac friends? "Isaac, are you alright?" I enquire, he nods his head- ignoring my glance. Another voice intrudes, "Didn't you know? Cassidy and Isaac used to date- she and him broke up before his little accident with Quinn." Kayden whispers. My eyes widen, this piece of information was shocking. Damn, I sigh as I pay attention to the board in front of me. Solve for X. "You have got to be kidding me." I hear Kayden mutter to himself, I look at him. He seemed a little annoyed at the sentence on the board. Perhaps he hated math, or he hated the letter X for the same reason as me. __ It was time for lunch, my stomach churned for food. I walk towards the lunch hall. "Isabelle!" I turn to find Derek and Mason- the two guys I spoke to before Quinn's little scandal. They seemed like they were nice people, but I can't trust anyone. "Hm?" I grab a few things on to my lunch tray as they did the same. "Where have you been?" Mason enquires as Derek looks at me. "Minding my own business." I mutter quietly as Derek chuckles, Derek pats my head as I look at him in annoyance. "Really." I try to fix my hair, Derek sends me a wide smile before he holds my tray for me. "You're sitting with us," Mason states. "We've got a lot to catch up on hun." The three of us walk towards the table around the centre of the lunch hall, I take a seat down as Derek places my lunch tray in front of me. Mason takes a seat beside me as Derek sits on the right of me. "So we've heard about what Quinn did." Mason says quietly as if he was ashamed to say he was friends with Quinn. "I mean, she was always a very rude person but we didn't expect her to go over the top and try to hurt Isaac and Kayden." Derek eyes me as I eat my pizza. "Could I have s--" Derek was interjected by me. "Nope." I say eating the rest of the pizza. Derek frowns as he quickly grabs Masons fries, Mason scowls at him. I notice Isaac walking towards our table in his crutches, it must hurt for him- since Quinn managed to stab him near his leg. "There's something you should know." Derek informs me, I look at him gesturing him to continue. "Before you came to this school, Quinn told us about how you're going to be the new subject of the game." He sighs as Mason munches on his fries. "So we thought it was getting out of hand, since your cousin Valerie had died because of this game." I nod my head, Valerie was a really nice person- it sucks that before I even attended this school she was pronounced dead. "Why is Quinn so obsessed with this game?" I ask him, I notice Isaac taking a seat beside Derek. "Quinn was obsessed with the game because of another person." Isaac butts into the conversation, what other person? "Care to tell me the persons name?" I throw Isaac a glance. "I'm afraid we're not allowed to say the persons name." Mason states as the three look at each other. "Is this person X?" I look at Isaac. "He is." Isaac responds, so I got a clue. X is a guy. "I don't understand one thing, what did X do to make Quinn so murderous and psychotic?" I look at the three guys. "They shared an odd bond." Mason says in a quiet voice, Isaac nods his head. I take a bite of some of my fries, it was all crazy how the three of them knew who X is. Yet they weren't revealing it to me. "We would tell you who X is but the thing is, X knows everything, it would be stupid of us to reveal his identity." Derek says annoyed. "But one thing that has me confused is that Quinn planned this before I even joined this school." I say before taking a sip of water. "She told us that it would be fun for another Rose to try it." Mason states, it's stupid how Quinn herself is a rose- if she was so obsessed with the game, why didn't she play herself? "What is this stupid thing between the Roses and Greys?" I question, Derek steals another one of Masons fries. Mason groans before smacking Derek's head. "Don't steal my food you..." Mason pauses, "You, failed abortion." He blurts out, Derek looks at him wide eyed. "That really hurt man." he chokes out. "Good." Mason looks at him before eating the rest of his fries. "Ignore them." Isaac states. "Each year a Rose gets chosen to play this game to find out Hunter Greys secret." Isaac says as Derek and Mason continue to quarrel. "And sadly, you got chosen." Isaac says, clearly annoyed by Derek and Mason fighting. "SHUT THE HELL UP YOU DIRTY CONDOM." Derek yells, people around our table look at him with scowls. Clearly also annoyed with the both of them quarrelling. "At least I use condoms." Mason says smugly, "You don't use them- oh shoot I forget sometimes you're a virgin." Mason chuckles as Derek glares at him. "I'm a proud catholic, I save it until marriage." Derek points out as Mason rolls his eyes. "Whatever." Mason says as Derek seemed as if smoke was coming out of his ears. "Don't you dare whatever me," Derek hisses. Mason purses his lips before cracking a smile, "Whatever." He says once more. "Go deep throat a cactus." Derek coons. "As I was saying." Isaac glares at the two guys, "You'll have to find the rest of the clues before you share the same fate as Valerie." "How many clues did Valerie find?" I ask Isaac. "She found four, she was close to finding the fifth." Isaac responds. "Does that mean, she dated Cassiel and found out the clue before breaking his heart?" I enquire. "Cassiel never got his heart broken, Valerie didn't even date him to get the fourth clue." Derek responds instead of Isaac. "What did she do?" I ask. "She cheated, someone had told her the clue so she didn't have to date Cassiel." Mason says as Isaac shifts glances at everyone in the Lunch Hall. "That lead her to her death, the main rule in this game is to not cheat." Derek says before he takes a sip of his can of soda. "I doubt anyone would tell you the fourth clue." Mason implies heavily as if he was warning someone. "Right." Isaac says bluntly. Derek looks at Mason, shaking his head. "I'm hanging out with Cassiel and his friends today, any tips?" I ask them. "Don't talk to Robin." Isaac blurts out, Mason and Derek nod their heads. "Is there something wrong with this Robin guy?" I look at Isaac. "Robin knows way too much, Cassiel is clueless about the game. Robin is the main threat." Isaac mumbles. "So you're saying Robin knows the game, he could pick up why I'm suddenly hanging out with Cassiel." I voice out as Derek nods his head. "Robin is aware of a lot of things, he's a silent guy- and not to be cliche or anything, he's Greystons infamous bad boy." Derek states. "Any other warnings?" "I'd say you're safe, try not to seem suspicious to Robin." Isaac advises me. My phone vibrates, I sigh before looking at the message. I mean blocking me wouldn't solve your issues, I still have your number and I could still text you - X Crap, I can't seem to get rid of him. __
