Chapter Three

1469 Words
I was at city lake, the one where Isaac told me I would find the first clue at. School was still going on- however I ditched it so I could find out what on Earth is going on. I noticed Hunter Grey. He was with Kayden, the other guy I was warned about. They walked towards the centre of the lake as Hunter pulled something out from his pocket. It was a rose. He bends down and places it in the lake. He closes his eyes and mutters something as Kayden looks at the rose floating in the water. Hunter stood up abruptly, he looks around the place. I hid behind the tree closest to me. "There's someone here." he says, I try to slow down my breathing so he doesn't hear me. Suddenly I get pulled back, I was waiting to hit the hard ground but instead I came face to face with Hunter. "Belle." he says harshly, why the heck is he calling me that? "Why are you here? And who sent you?" Hunter demands as I try to get out of his firm grip. "I was walking by." I try to say smoothly but I fail miserably. Hunter doesn't seem to believe me as Kayden walks towards us. "Bunking school on your first day to spy on us? If someone didn't send you here then how else would you know this place." Kayden says suspiciously, he wasn't buying anything. "I said who sent you, it's a simple question." Hunter growls. "Nobody." I state, as I still struggled to get myself out of his grip. He pulls me closer to him, "Listen Belle, I left you alone the first time because you were new- now it seems like you're asking for trouble." Hunter looks at me as I notice his icy eyes. "Let go of me, I need to go somewhere." I state as he doesn't listen. "Typical behaviour of a Rose." I turn my head to see Kayden with a smirk. Hunter glares at me, "she's a Rose?" he says in distaste. "She is the Isabelle Rose." Kayden mutters quietly to Hunter but I hear him. Hunter lets go of me finally, I noticed the mischievous glance he gave me. "I'll see you in school, Belle." he smirks, he walks off as Kayden is still standing next to me. "Isaac sent you here, we're not fools and the first clue you're looking for is rose- you're simply playing the same game your cousin Valerie played and you know what happened to her- she died." Kayden states as he handed me something. It was a Rose. "Don't worry it's plastic, it won't die." he walks off, not before throwing me a look of triumph. You're playing the same game. This is a game? How the hell does he know about the clues? If he knows, Hunter knows as well. Why did Isaac do this if Hunter and Kayden are aware of the clues? But I thought they both weren't aware of anything. My cousin Valerie had died, but nobody knows how. Valerie had done the same thing? She looked for the clues Isaac and my cousins friends told her about. I frown as I look at the plastic rose that I had in my hand, don't worry it's plastic, it won't die. The first clue is a rose. I sighed as I placed the plastic rose in my bag. I looked at the lake once more, there was a sheet of paper floating on top of it. I walk towards it and bend down, I grabbed the wet piece of paper. There was nothing written on it but there was a symbol of a candle on it. Taking a plastic bag out of my bag I placed the wet paper inside of it. There was nothing else for me to do in city lake, I sigh as I walk towards the direction of where my high school is. __ Once I entered the high school it was time for it to end, I found Quinn and Isaac talking discreetly. I didn't know whether I should trust them or not. Quinn was much smarter than I thought she was, I walk towards them as they both stopped talking. Isaac starts to speak up first, "So did you find the first clue?" I nod my head, I don't tell them about my encounter with Hunter and Kayden. I resisted the urge to tell them about what Kayden told me. "The second clue is in locker 16. The code for it is 1111, if you're smart enough to understand this clue- I give you points for that Isabelle cause it takes a highly intelligent person to do so." Isaac tells me, there was something wrong. The way Isaac and Quinn glanced at me. They glanced at me as if I were a threat to them. Quinn doesn't say a word to me, she just smiles. Her smile was off, I ignored her as I walked towards the opposite direction of the hallway. Locker number 16. I look at it, all the lockers surrounding it were new but this very locker was old. It was dirty, there were piece of metal peeling off. I placed the pin 1111, and the locker unlocked immediately. I opened the locker and found nothing. The locker was empty, I sighed as I slammed the locker shut. A piece of paper fell out of the locker, I bend down and grab it and turn it over. It was just the number 16. What was so special about this number? I have an idea, I walk towards the library of the school and notice the large book with the names of all the books in the library. The page was opened to the letter N already. I scan the book for the book Numerical Meanings. It was in row 9. I walk across the large library to row 9, there were tons of books to search through but the book I needed stood out oddly. It was a bright yellow book which was surrounded by dark coloured books. I pull it out. Numerical Meanings by Unknown. I opened the book, there was a book mark on a certain page. I slide the book mark out and noticed the title of the page. It was 16. The number 16 • it symbolises the construction and the destruction. • This number points to many difficult decisions. There are many negative waves around this number that also cause problems in the surroundings. There is the possibility of • accidents • disasters • dangers I look at the book in front of me, the number 16 stands for many negative things. "So you're here." I find Kayden once again, he looks at the page in front of me. "Pretty dark meaning." he says sarcastically, "I knew you'd be here next, you're one smart flower rose." Why doesn't he and Hunter pronounce my real name, Isabelle. "What are you doing here?" I look at him, not bothered for his riddles. "To give you the second clue of course. The second clue is destruction, you have two clues now- rose and destruction, I wonder whats next." he smirks, I frown as he grabs the book. "What are you doing?" I ask him, clearly confused. "Placing it back, the next person is going to use it when they're searching for this clue." Kayden says as he returned the book back to its original position. "What next person?" I question him, Kayden walks towards me and sighs. "You think you're the only person, think again Rose- there are others wanting to find out the truth, you should thank me for helping you." Kayden says nonchalantly, there are others wanting to find out the truth. Is there someone else looking for the clues I'm looking for? But why? "Don't you help others?" I enquire, Kayden shakes his head. "I've only helped you but the people before you, I haven't helped them- you're only doing this well because of me." he says straightforwardly. "Why help me?" I ask. "Why not?" he retorts. I didn't understand the point of me searching for these clues, the only two clues I have are the words rose and destruction. Nothing added up, nothing made sense. How will I find out the what's going on with only five clues? I look at Kayden who was looking through the books of the library, scanning every book in silence. "What's the next clue?" I queried, Kayden places the book he was reading down. "That's for your friend Isaac to tell you," Kayden states, Isaac didn't seem like a friend- with the way he acts alongside with Quinn didn't seem right. "I'll take your leave rose, see you tomorrow." Kayden says as he walks towards the exit of the library.
