THE LAST FAIRIES

It was winter in the moon pack city, the wind howling and the snow pouring. On the city park bench sat Gloria, reading her novels and picturing herself as one of the character until she heard her phone ringing glancing at it she saw it was her mother calling her, she knew the reason her mother is calling her but she was still willing to hear her say it. “Gloria come home right now, you know what today is and you promised you would celebrate it with us" was what her mother used to greet her. “Yes I know mom you need not remind me my birthday am coming home right now".“oh and invite Fredrick when coming he's such a good boy", Gloria knew her mother is fond of her best friend coming to all special occasion set by her family cause her mother thought that sooner or later they would accept their feeling for each other and start dating,“Yes ma, he will be there" with that she hung up the phone. Packing all her load and putting them into her bag she stood up and dusted the snow off her hoodie and strapped the bag on herself, she proceed to start going home when she heard her phone ringing again groaning she took it out her bag and saw it was her best friend, she answered it. “Hello, honey how are you doing " she heard the other side saying “Huh, sorry but am taken did you call the wrong number" she teased Fredrick on the phone but the other wasn't even bothered and instead replied with “As if, you have no one to talk to except me no one can put up with your behavior". “okay okay you win am not that mean I just let people know that I hate interaction, and Fredrick lest I forget mum wanted to invite you to my birthday party this Evening and she hopes you have time to come" knowing Fredrick won't deny her mind was at ease “sure will be there and tell Mrs. Santiago I will be there any dress codes?" He asked her, she knowing her mother she replied instantly “ No, just dress up in the shirt she bought us last year so she will feel pleased" "okay I need to go now, my shift is starting soon" then the phone was silent. She sighed and started walking home until she heard a scream from a nearby forest and her being the curious one she treaded to the forest trying to find the source of the horrifying scream. When she got there she saw a boy probably her age or less dressed up fancily and with elegance being beaten by some sort of people in a robe that have a weird logo imprinted on their sleeves and arms. She thought it was a gang problem and wanted to leave before being spotted until she turned to leave till she heard the boy saying "Am not the one with that power, I was just passing by on earth to give them their yearly miracles. Am not the one you are looking for" then one of the robed man shouted at the others from his tone she could guess he was the leader " Hold him tight, if he won't give us we will compel it out of him" then he started speaking in a strange tongue until he transformed into a serpent. Gloria shocked stepped back a little trying to escape but a twig broke and gave her away, she was scared and sprint out of the forest with the robed me at her trail out of breath she managed to stop a taxi on the road telling the taxi man to take her to house address. The men in robe seeing she escaped from them went back to report to their leader. Gloria reaching her address payed the driver and didn't bother to accept her change before alighting the taxi and running to her door opening and slamming it shut. Still panting her mother came out of the kitchen asking her what's wrong, she explained everything to her mother "so let me get you right, you were coming home and you heard a horrifying scream and you went to see what's wrong and you saw several men in robe beating a kid asking for a magical artifact but when you tried to escape you gave yourself away by stepping on a twig, and now those robe men are after you?" "Oh Gloria the inevitable has arrived, I tried to hide this from you but now it is hopeless, Gerrard!!!" Her mother called her father to the living room " what do you mean by that statement, is there anything you haven't inform me of yet" she ranted. Her mother didn't utter a word untill the figure of her father show itself in the living room and she watched as her mother explained everything to her dad and her dad watching her, Berlinda I think it's time to tell her the truth with that her mother went into the hall leading to the artic and coming back with a silver box that has strange logos imprinted on them. Looking at the box she felt numb and at the same time she felt alive "Gloria what am about to show you will change your life forever but we promise we will be there for the changes" with that said her mother opened the silver box and the runes on them glowing" this is the ring of your ancestors, it was passed down from your father side of the family, it has runes inscribed in the circle and gives you power" her father then piped in" the truth of the matter is that we are magicians, but you were born different..." Before he could finish Gloria voice rose" so you guys thought it was fun keeping this kind of secrets from me and now telling me on my 18th birthday, nah you guys betrayed my trust in you and not also that but you completely shattered my entire existence" while talking some robed figure bursted into the house. During the chaos Gerrard tossed the box to Gloria shouting " Go to the artic and keep the box safe no matter what happens don't come down" with that Gloria took to her heels and ran upstairs hearing her parents scream in a different language. On her way there one of the figure jumped in front of her, shocked she fell and hit her head and the last thing she saw was the figure reaching out to take something from her.
