Rhea’s POV
Damon didn't come into my room again that night or the night after. If I hadn't run into him in the hallway on the day of the gala a few hours before it began, I might not have seen him that day at all.
I had already resigned myself to fate. I couldn't help that he didn't want to be with me anymore but I was even more tired of his fickleness. One day he says he loves and the next day he runs off to Beatrice. It was annoying as hell.
I stood at the entrance of the house waiting for Aunt Ruth so we could both go to the gala together. He and Beatrice were wearing matching blue outfits that made them look like a couple. She actually looked good beside him, maybe that's why the moon goddess made them mates.
I was wearing a sequined black strapless long dress with a slit at the side that was almost thigh high. The cleavage of the dress was deeply cut and it showed a generous amount of my bosom. Usually I wouldn't wear something this daring but the way Damon's mouth dropped openas he approached made my self confidence rise a little bit.
Beatrice locked hands with Damon as they approached me.
“I didn't know you were going to the gala too. Didn't Damon tell you I would be going with him?,” Beatrice asked sweetly in that sugar coated voice I was beginning to hate.
“Aunt Ruth invited me so I'm going with her,” I answered calmly, trying not to let her get on my nerves.
“Oh. I'm so glad you're going. I was so upset about how you would feel about me going instead of you. But I'm glad it all worked out,” Beatrice uttered.
I scoffed. It was obvious she wasn't happy I was going but she just wanted to be the nice girl. I wonder how long she is going to put on her miss nice girl act.
“Are you going to the gala wearing that?" Damon questioned disentangling his hands from Beatrice.
“Yes. What's wrong with what I'm wearing,” I questioned back.
“Do you know the amount of unmated wolves that would be at the gala?. You can't go in that dress. It is way too revealing. Go upstairs now and change into something else,” Damon ordered and scoffed in dismay.
Did he really still think he could tell me what to do?.
“I gave her the dress to wear and if she wants to wear it, you can't tell her not to. She's my date not yours. Why don't you pay more attention to your own date and leave my date alone,” Aunt Ruth interjected as she walked towards us.
She held my hands and we both walked to her car before Damon could object.
“You look very beautiful Rhea. At least now Damon knows what he's missing,” she said to me and I smiled at her in response.
It was nice to see Damon act jealous and possessive towards me but what was the point he was no longer mine anymore.
A few minutes later we drove into the parking lot of the villa the gala was taking place at. Different luxury cars were lined up there and reporters were trying to get through but were stopped by the guards. It was like every elite member of the packs was there.
Aunt Ruth climbed out of the car first and I followed in her wake. I smiled at the guard who helped me out and walked over to Aunt Ruth.
“Shall we?,” she uttered and I nodded, taking her hands. As we both walked into the villa I became increasingly aware of the different powerful aura emanating from the people we passed.
I noticed some of the familiar faces I have seen before from previous events that I went with Damon but they were more new faces now. I suddenly began to feel self conscious as we passed through the swarm of male wolves as their eyes were fixed directly at me while the female wolves were eyeing me with envy.
“You are so beautiful they can't keep their eyes off you,” Aunt Ruth muttered quietly so only I could hear but from the expressions on some of the people we passed they must have heard what she said.
“For some reason I feel there are more elite people gathered here today for the gala. I wonder what the special occasion is,” I said, trying to take my mind off all the attention I was getting.
“I heard the Alpha king's son is finally coming back to take over the crown. I even heard he will be at the party tonight and he's currently looking for his mate,” Aunt Ruth uttered disinterestedly.
“No wonder there are so many female wolves at the gala. I'm sure one of them is hoping to be his mate,” I muttered.
“Of course. Who wouldn't want to be the mate and Luna of one of the most powerful packs in the world,” she said and I nodded in agreement.
Someone suddenly grabbed my hand from behind and I spun around to see an angry looking Damon staring down at me.
“I told you, didn't I?. Look at the way they are all staring at you. Your dress is way too revealing. Wait here I'll get someone to bring you a jacket,” he huffed as he walked away in anger while I stood staring speechless at his retreating back.
Was the dress so revealing and even if it was he no longer had any right to react that way.
“I just saw a friend on mine over there. I'll be right back dear. Don't let her ruin your mood,” Aunt Ruth muttered glancing at Beatrice who was standing close by, before rushing off.
I obviously didn't want to have a conversation with her so I turned to walk away when she spoke.
“You must be feeling so happy now right cause Damon is behaving so possessive towards you. Well sorry to burst your bubble but that doesn't mean he loves you. Damon loves only me and I'm his fated mate not a chosen mate like you,” she uttered with that same sickly sweet smile I had come to hate.
At least now she's no longer pretending to be nice and caring to me.
I walked towards her slowly until I was directly in front of her.
“You see here the thing Bianca…”
“It's Beatrice,” she muttered through clenched teeth and I smirked.
“I don't care anymore if Damon decides to choose you. You're his fated mate and I don't want to come between the two of you for the sake of Damon and the pack. He's all yours and you can have him. Excuse me,” I turned to leave when Beatrice suddenly fell to the floor and screamed attracting the attention of everyone in the party.
“What's going on here?,” Damon questioned as he rushed to help Beatrice up.
“Rhea pushed me. I was just trying to explain to her that you were still in love with her and that she shouldn't worry about me but then she got angry and said I was trying to steal you away from her and she pushed me in anger. I was just trying to console her,” Beatrice uttered as she cried her crocodile tears on Damon's chest while I watched in shock. Damon turned towards me in anger.
“No I didn't push her. She's lying to you. I didn't even touch her”
“She's lying. Can you even hear yourself. So you're saying she pushed herself to the ground. Does that make sense right now,” Damon sneered, his voice rising an octave. He was practically shouting now and everyone was looking at us now. Damon had never yelled at me in the years we've been together before. I stood frozen to the spot not knowing what to do.
“I know our situation isn't ideal but you should also know that she's my mate. I will not tolerate this kind of behavior towards her. I'm really disappointed in you. Maybe I should just end this confusion now and reject you as my chosen mate once and for all,” Damon yelled as I looked at him with wide eyes.
I looked around and saw everyone staring at me accusingly. They didn't believe me. Nobody did but I didn't care. The one person I thought would believe me didn't trust me enough. My eyes stung with unshed tears but I refused to cry, not in front of all this people. I suddenly felt sick. I could feel the bile rising from my throat and felt like throwing up.
Before Damon could say anymore I turned and ran away with my hand over my mouth. Tears stung my eyes and it was getting harder to breathe. Just then I ran into a hard wall and I heard a deep growl before the scent of vanilla hit my nose and my eyes widened.
Could it be… my mate?. Here?
I looked up at the man who stood before me and the most devilishly strikingly handsome man I have ever seen stared back at me with a stoic expression on his face but there was no mistaking it. This man standing before me was my mate.
And just like that, I threw up on my mate’s very expensive suit…
