Farrah 'Ifrit' Tayen Yalmiz adjusted her purse on her shoulder and basked in the sunlight. The sun wasn't common in LA, she just hadn't seen it in the last few months. She hummed as the warmth strengthened her.
"Well, look at you, Demon," a familiar voice chuckled. "I have no patience for your crap, Sirius," she laughed as she rolled her neck and opened her eyes. "I know, love," Sirius said as he examined her closely with his grey eyes.
Tayen knew it was because of how she was treated last time she was sent away, but her defences rose and she flinched away from his gaze. "It was only rehab, Si." she snapped.
"About that... Abe said you were visiting home?" Sirius said hesitantly. Tayen scoffed and dropped her purse to her elbow. "And how does he expect me to describe a place he's never let me go to?" She asked sharply. "He said it was for business. So anyone with sense won't ask you about it at the party," Sirius said as he followed her to the car.
"What party?" She demanded. Sirius waved a hand, "You know Abe, Demon. Any excuse to throw a party and show off his wealth. This one's ironic, though. A party for an addict fresh out of rehab?" He laughed. Tayen shoved him lightly, "I'm not an addict, Si!" She snapped.
"Yeah, all those nights at the club definitely prove that," Sirius rolled his eyes. Tayen turned her body toward the window, indicating she was done with the conversation. Sirius hummed and grabbed her hand.
"Really, though, Demon... Be honest, are you alright?" He asked quietly. Tayen pulled her hand away and rubbed her temples, a dull headache coming on. "Yeah, I'm fine," she whispered.
Your lies will catch up to you, Little One, the voice in her head laughed softly. They always do.
......
Sirius hadn't been lying about the party. When they got home, the house was filled with hired help. Which was no easy task, they had the largest house in their little gated community of mobsters and high end criminals.
"Habibti!" Abe called from the staircase. Tayen ran over to her father, and he caught her in a hug. "It's good to have you home, Albi," he smiled warmly when they separated. "I wish I could say it's good to be home, Baba. But it's uh... It's crowded," She laughed nervously. "Yeah, well... Nasty rumours have been spreading about your trip. People have the audacity to claim you were sent to rehab because you were caught with a n**dle in your arm!" Abe cried in false outrage.
Tayen rolled her eyes at the dramatics. She had taken painkillers for her headache after a couple shots of tequila, it was hardly worth all of this damage control.
"So, you will wear a short sleeve dress, have some sparkling, non-alcoholic cider, and grape juice, and that will be the end of that." Abe said firmly. "Baba, I'm hardly sm****g meth or sh*****g *p heroin. I get headaches, you know that." Tayen waved a hand. "So, I will wear a dress, have some champagne, a couple glasses of wine, and that will be the end of it."
Before Abe could respond, both Tayen and Sirius were going up the stairs.
Tayen groaned when she saw what Terry had had laid out for her on the bed. She inspected them with disgust, then went to her closet and pulled out a strapless black evening gown. It was classy enough. The hem fell past her feet, the neckline was modest for the style, with a gold lace on the bodice and a small gold belt around the waist.
"When the stylists get here, tell them I'll be wearing this with the gold bracelets in my drawer. No earrings, I want my hair down tonight," She told Sirius. He just hummed and kept staring at his phone. She chuckled in amusement and grabbed her robe for after her shower.
It felt like it took ages to get the rehab out of her hair and off of her skin, and it didn't help her dark brown hair was just past waist length. When she finished shaving, she shut off the water and squeezed the excess water out of her hair. It fell into the tub with a solid thump, but she was long used to the sound. She put on her robe and scrunched more moisture out of her hair.
Three stylists were waiting for her when she entered her room again; One for makeup, one for hair, and one to help her get dressed. They immediately got to work, while they chirped common compliments on her appearance. It didn't take long for her to grow annoyed with them and send them away, to Sirius's amusement.
"Two hours, thirty seven minutes," He noted. "New record. Rehab taught you patience." He grinned. Tayen ran her fingers through her hair, loosening the waves further.
"Not enough for tonight, I'm afraid. Be a dear, I have whiskey stashed in my armoire, and two glasses in my yellow purse in there," she smiled brightly at him. He obliged and poured them two glasses. They clinked their cups together and downed their drinks. Tayen shuddered after she swallowed.
"Okay, I'm ready for the show."
