Chapter 16 The season quickly moved along—much too quickly for Neil. It had passed its peak, and by the end of August the first loads of horses were being returned to the mainland for the winter. Neil was enjoying his job and had been able, for the most part, to keep his concerns about the end of his tenure on the island in the back of his mind. However, when staff began to leave, and Rolf didn’t follow through on his suggestion of requesting a larger place for them, it was harder for Neil not to worry. Other than that, things were going exceedingly well. When their schedules permitted, the four men spent time together. They went to dinner, spent evenings in town, and explored the island.
