The Private Investigator

The night was still and there was an eery silence along the streets. Dr. Trey walked along the alley ways in search of the private investigator he was recommended to. “I had her in my grasps and she still escaped. I need that location.” Dr. Trey said to himself. He turned the corner and found himself at a dead end. Dr. Trey turned to head down another way when 2 shadow figures emerged. “Well, what do we have here Daryl?” A male voice asked the other one named Daryl. “It looks like the rich quack lost his way Jim.” Daryl answered Jim. “We don’t take kindly to you being on our turf Dr. Trey.” Jim said in a threatening manner. Dr. Trey began to panic as he searched for a way out. “You two don’t want to hurt me. I don’t even know who you are. Let me go and I won’t utter a word of this to anyone.” Dr. Trey said hoping they would see reason and leave him be. “Oh I don’t think we can do that. You see, it is no big secret that you are not well liked in these parts. Daryl, our old buddy Dr. Trey thinks no one in this city knows what he does in that facility.” Jim said still keeping his eyes on Dr. Trey. “Well, then he is a fool if he thinks he is well loved in this city or even in this alley. Dr. Trey, do you know how many people want to see your head on a stick? We know you are a cruel man inside and outside of that facility. People want to call us bad men. You’re the worst out of any criminals here.” Daryl said as he spit on the ground. Dr. Trey was cornered and he had no way out, until he saw another shadow coming. He watched, waiting to see who it was. The alley was too dark to see who the person was, but Dr. Trey did see them knock Jim and Daryl out cold. “Come on Dr. Trey, follow me, unless you want to wait until they wake up?” The male voice said. Dr. Trey walked forward out of the alley. He looked to either side of him and made sure Jim and Daryl were knocked out. Dr. Trey looked in front of him but couldn’t make out who the man was who had saved him. The man had a dark trench coat on with a hood over his head. “Thank you for helping me.” Dr. Trey said as they walked out of the alleys. “I couldn’t let them kill you without getting hired and paid. I know you were looking for me.” The man said as he stopped walking and turned towards Dr. Trey. Dr. Trey looked confused for a moment and asked, “how, how did you know I was looking for you?” The man chuckled and said, “I know everything. No one is going to recommend me and not tell me before meeting the possible client. Now, let’s go somewhere more private. There are too many eyes and ears in the streets.” The man started walking without waiting for Dr. Trey. They walked a few blocks and finally came up to an old looking building. The man opened the door and walked inside. Dr. Trey followed him inside, not knowing where he was or who this man was. He wasn’t sure that this man was even the private investigator he was told to seek out. They came up to an office door and the man unlocked it and went inside. “Are you going to stand out there or come inside? My time is valuable.” The man said as he flipped the lights on. Dr. Trey walked into the office and saw file cabinets and a desk. The man sat down in his chair and put his hood down. Dr. Trey sat down in the chair across from the man. “What is your name sir?” Dr. Trey finally asked not bothering for anymore pleasantries. The man raised his eyebrow and chuckled. “Well, you are an arrogant pr*ck like I’ve heard. I am Private Investigator Timmons.” Timmons said to Dr. Trey. Dr. Trey nodded in response. “So you are wanting me to find an old patient of yours who finally broke free from your facility for your special “therapy”? Timmons asked as he used his fingers to quote therapy. Dr. Trey started to become angry. Timmons noticed he had gotten under his skin and smirked. Timmons got out his pocket notebook and asked, “what is her name?” “Her name is Taylor Lyndal. I want her returned unharmed.” Dr. Trey said still angry that Timmons knew anything about his facility. “Is that all you are willing to give me? It is not a lot to go off of Dr. Trey.” Timmons said then looked up at Dr. Trey and asked, “oh it is okay if I call you Dr. Trey right, Alan?” Dr. Trey immediately stood up and was ready to lunge at Timmons. Timmons raised his eyebrow and sat back in his chair. “Now, Dr. Trey, I would not recommend trying to assault me. There are many many people here alone in this town that wants your head on a stick. I can guarantee you, every one of them would pay me very well to set me up for life.” Timmons warned Dr. Trey. “You know nothing about me. Taylor’s parents are Collin and Sarah Lyndal. I followed them to the airport to try to get Taylor back, but they already took off in a jet.” Dr. Trey said angrily. Timmons sat up and said, “I will find her for 1 million dollars to start out with, and another 2 million when I deliver her.” Dr. Trey was thrown off by the amount. “That is a very large amount. How do I know you won’t take off with the money and never bring her back?” Dr. Trey asked Timmons. “Well, that is a good question. The answer is, you don’t, but I am the only one that will agree to help you. So, take your pick.” Timmons said as he lit himself a cigarette as if he didn’t care either way what the quack decided. Dr. Trey rolled his eyes and said, “fine, I’ll get you the money tomorrow.” Timmons chuckled and said, “well, if I were you, I would probably do it now so that I can track her down easier. You wait too long and it will take longer to find her.” Dr. Trey huffed and pulled his phone out. “What is your bank account number? I will send you the money this way.” Dr. Trey said to Timmons with venom in his voice. Timmons gave him the information and once the money cleared his account he escorted Dr. Trey out and went to gather his things to find Taylor. Dr. Trey hailed a taxi and got in. “Take me to Trey’s Facilities and step on it.” Dr. Trey said with a bark. The taxi driver drove off heading to the facility. Timmons watched as the taxi disappeared from view. He turned and walked the opposite direction towards his home. Timmons got out his phone and dialed a number. He waited for the person to answer and began talking. “I will be there within 24 hours. I have a job that I know you will want to know about.” Timmons said and then hung up. He walked to his home and began packing a bag to catch his flight once he figured out where he needed to go. Dr. Trey got out of the cab and handed the money to the driver. He went inside and headed for his office. He was beyond angry. In a single day, he had lost his nurse, Mrs. Patter, and Taylor who would hand him the key to all the power he would ever want and need. He took his tie off and threw it on the couch. He did not care about anyone else. He would get Taylor back if it was the last thing he did. Dr. Trey picked his phone up and called for a late night snack for after his shower. The kitchen staff made Dr. Trey his late night snacks and sent it up to his office. They got smart and sent the men to take his food to him. Dr. Trey had issues keeping his hands to himself and everyone in the building knew. The staff cleaned up and went to bed. They all knew better than to complain. The last person to complain ended up in a padded cell. Mr. Patter was not the same, but they were very happy when they learned he had been taken back home. Timmons got out of the car and walked inside to get onto the plane. He had a hunch of where they might have gone, but needed to check to make sure. He ordered himself a sandwich while he waited for his flight. Timmons took first class so that he could sleep and be rested for his journey when he landed. Timmons finished eating his food, then headed to the shop so that he could have a couple of snacks on the way. He took out a photo and stared at it for a moment, then put it back in his pocket. He wasn’t sure what would happen, but he knew he was the only one to do the job. Timmons sat in the chair waiting for them to call to begin loading. A flight attendant stopped and asked, “sir, are you first class?” Timmons handed her his ticket and she smiled. “We have a private jet waiting for you. You need to go through gate 3 and it will take you to where you need to go.” The flight attendant said with a smile. “Wait, how did you know it was me?” Timmons asked the woman. She smiled and said, “it has your name on the ticket. Please, enjoy your flight.” The flight attendant then walked away. Timmons stood up and started walking to gate 3 for his flight.
