Taylor got dressed for the day after brushing her teeth and putting her hair into a messy bun. “I have got to figure out a way to escape this nightmare.” Taylor thought to herself. She fixed herself some breakfast and then cleaned up. There was a knock on the door and Taylor opened the door to see who it was. It was a woman who looked to be in her early 50’s. “Good morning Taylor. I am Mrs. Patter, I will be making sure you are up and complete your tasks for the day. May I come in?” Mrs. Patter asked Taylor. Taylor nodded and allowed Mrs. Patter to walk into her room. She gently shut the door and turned to look at Mrs. Patter. Mrs. Patter looked around the room and saw that Taylor has cleaned already. “You have already eaten and cleaned up after yourself. That is very good. I will show you where to go after your breakfast. You must steer clear of the security guy. His name is Mr. Robert and he is not a nice man. He takes advantage of weak minded women.” Mrs. Patter said and Taylor nodded in understanding. Mrs. Patter walked close to Taylor and leaned in to her ear. “I am going to protect you as I’m able to. You will need to mind yourself though and stay out of trouble.” Mrs. Patter said in a whisper only Taylor would be able to hear.
Mrs. Patter then stood up and said, “Follow me Taylor. It is time for your dose of vitamin D and exercise in the sun. It would be wise to remember you can not escape here. I will show you why so that you better understand the severity of what you would be up against.” Taylor’s eyes widened and then followed Mrs. Patter. Taylor noted how there weren’t many rooms near her room. “Is there anyone else who is staying close to me by my room? It would be nice to maybe have some friends.” Taylor asked Mrs. Patter. “There are some on your floor, however, patients are not allowed to speak to one another. It is Dr. Trey’s rule.” Taylor frowned at what Mrs. Patter just told her. This was more like a prison than the one in her dreams. Mrs. Patter opened and closed doors, then opened the next one after the first one was closed. They finally made it outside through a long hallway. Mrs. Patter opened the door and walked outside with Taylor. “So we are pretty much alone here and can only speak to you, nurses, and Dr. Trey?” Taylor asked Mrs. Patter. “Yes dear. That is the rule that you must follow. You will be given a list of rules you need to follow to survive this place.” Mrs. Patter said and continued to walk. “There are cameras in every corner of this court yard.” Mrs. Patter said and pointed at the cameras. “There are towers with guards at the entrance over there as well.” Mrs. Patter said as she pointed at the towers. Taylor gasped and said, “this isn’t a mental hospital, it is a max security prison. How is he allowed to get away with this?” Taylor was very upset seeing how she was trapped.
“Just do as you are asked and told. That is the best way to survive this place. I will help when I am able to, but you must follow the rules for my helping you to be justifiable.” Mrs. Patter said to Taylor. Taylor sighed and said, “okay Mrs. Patter, I will do as told and asked. Well, within reason. I am saving myself for my soulmate.” Mrs. Patter looked at Taylor and understood what she was saying. “Let’s walk around the court yard and get you some sun. We must be careful what we say out in the open.” Mrs. Patter said and Taylor nodded in understanding. She saw what appeared to be tiny microphones to record what is being said outside. “This is a lovely court yard Mrs. Patter. It is missing one thing though.” Taylor said with a smile. “What is it missing?” Mrs. Patter asked. “It need a beautiful fountain with flowers around it and seating to sit next to it.” Taylor suggested as she almost envisioned what it would look like. Mrs. Patter thought it was a good idea, but knew that Dr. Trey would not allow it. “Dr. Trey would not allow something like that. You are welcome to ask him of course.” Mrs. Patter said to Taylor.
Mrs. Patter took Taylor inside and said, “it is time for your first therapy session with Dr. Trey. I will come get you after your appointment is over.” Taylor nodded and followed Mrs. Patter to Dr Trey’s office. Taylor truly did not want to go speak to this quack job. Taylor took a deep breath as they walked up to the office door. Mrs. Patter smiled and then left Taylor at the door. Taylor finally knocked on the door. “Come in Taylor.” Dr. Trey said from inside his office. Taylor put her sweet innocent smile on her face, then entered the office. Taylor wanted to rip his head off, but made herself smile and appear small. “Please Taylor, come in and have a seat. We have much to discuss today.” Dr. Trey said to Taylor as he walked to the door and closed it. Taylor walked over to the couch and sat down. Dr. Trey sat down in his chair holding a notebook and pen. “I’d like to start by asking, do you remember what the outside of the prison looked like?” Taylor closed her eyes and tried to see what the outside of the prison looked like. She would get to the door, but could not see passed the bright light. “I can’t see what it looks like. It is so bright it is hurting my eyes.” Taylor said breathing heavily.
Dr. Trey was not pleased that Taylor could not give him any answers. “You need to try harder.” Dr. Trey said angrily to Taylor. Taylor closed her eyes again and tried to see passed the bright light. She’d almost get it, then the bright light would blind her for a moment. “Ahh, I can’t see anything. It is just too bright.” Taylor said rubbing her eyes. Dr. Trey became more angry that Taylor wouldn’t force herself to see what was beyond the bright light. “You need to remember who you will be punished Taylor.” Dr. Trey stood up and paced the room. Taylor didn’t know what he meant by being punished. Unfortunately, she would find out soon. Taylor closed her eyes and went back to the door to exit the prison. Taylor pushed through the light and saw gravel. “I can see gravel with grass that is peeking through the rocks.” Taylor said and then held her head. “It hurts so bad.” Taylor said while holding her head and trying to breathe through the pain. Dr. Trey was not happy about gravel being the only this she remembered. “What else do you see Taylor?” Dr. Trey asked her. “I can not see anything else. Please, I need a break.” Taylor said still holding her head. Dr. Trey growled in frustration. “Go back to your room. I will come speak to you soon.” Dr. Trey said as he grabbed Taylor by the arm and walked her to the door. Taylor was afraid of what he meant, but said nothing.
Mrs. Patter walked up and then escorted Taylor to her room. “Well, you managed to make him mad I see. Just take your punishment and say nothing.” Mrs. Patter said to Taylor. Taylor walked into her room and sat down on the chair by the table. She really didn’t want to speak to Dr. Trey. Taylor got up and fixed herself some lunch while she waited for Dr. Trey to come speak to her. Taylor just put the mayo on her bread when the door opened revealing Dr. Trey. Taylor got a second plate out and began making another sandwich. She figured if nothing else, she would offer food to Dr. Trey to possibly get into his good graces again. Dr. Trey closed the door. He looked mad but said nothing. Taylor finished making the sandwich then put everything away. She walked over to the table and set both plates down. She sat down and waited for Dr. Trey to sit down before eating. Dr. Trey sat down after staring at her for a long moment. He said nothing and ate the sandwich Taylor had made him. Taylor ate hers as well then got up and took both empty plates to the sink.
Dr. Trey only watched her as she washed the plates. He knew he was making her uncomfortable. Dr. Trey was amused by how much she was uncomfortable. “So, you turn 18 years old in a few weeks?” Dr. Trey asked all of the sudden. Taylor was caught off guard by his random question. Taylor finished drying the dishes and put them away. She turned to face him and said, “yes, I turn 18 years old in a couple of weeks. Why do you ask Dr. Trey?” Dr. Trey smirked and said, “you’ll find out soon enough.” He stood up and walked over so he was only a few inches from Taylor. He again smirked as he felt how uncomfortable he made her. “If I were you, I would begin trying to remember where the locations are before you turn 18 years old.” Dr. Trey said then left the room. Taylor flipped him off when he shut the door completely. Taylor growled and slammed her fist on the counter. “What a complete as*hole. I can’t wait to get out of here.” Taylor said to herself. She walked over to the bed and began to cry. She felt like it was hopeless at that current time to really harden herself to the pressure and treatment of Dr. Trey. Taylor tried again to mind link her parents and Margaret, but all she managed to do was get a headache.
