Sarah, Margaret, and Collin all went with Taylor to her therapy appointment. It was her first initial meeting Dr. Trey. Taylor was nervous and wasn’t sure how well this was going to go. Margaret linked her arm with Taylor’s and they walked into the building. “Good afternoon. Welcome to Timely Therapy. How may I help you today?” The receptionist asked as Sarah and Collin walked up to the desk. Sarah smiled and said, “hello, my daughter has an appointment with Dr. Trey.” The receptionist smiled and asked for the name of her daughter. “Taylor Lyndal is her name.” Collin stated as he looked around the room. It was very state of the art looking. The chairs were a modern style. “Oh here she is, I have some forms you need to fill out.” The receptionist said and she looked at Sarah and said, “please, read over these carefully.” She then handed the papers to Sarah to fill out. Sarah thought was odd that she said to read over them carefully. It wasn’t the words it was how she said it. Sarah sat down and read over the papers. Collin sat next to her and saw the big stack of papers. “Why are there so many papers to fill out? This seems way too many to have to fill out. The receptionist said to read them carefully. Who has time for that?” Sarah stated to Collin a little unsure of being there.
Collin took half the papers and began filling them out after he read them. He came across a paper about committing patient into hospital for expert care and treatment. He handed it to Sarah unsure what she wanted with that. “We are not filling this paper out. I am filling the information out and the rest can be tossed. There is no way I am signing a paper to commit her into a mental hospital for treatment.” Sarah said getting upset. Collin wrapped his arm around her and said, “we won’t allow that to happen. Let’s fill out what we absolutely need and not bother with the rest.” Sarah did as Collin said and handed the papers back to the receptionist. She looked and said, “ma’am, all of the papers have to be filled out. Even if the answer is no on most of them, they still need filled out.” The receptionist gave an apologetic look and handed the paperwork back to Sarah. Sarah sat back down and began filling the paperwork out. Most of the papers were answered with a no and signed. Finally, after finishing all of the papers, Sarah took the papers back to the receptionist.
Sarah sat back down with her family and soon Taylor was called back. Sarah stood up to walk back with her and she was stopped. “I’m sorry ma’am, but only the patient is allowed back here. It was in a paper you were given to read and sign.” The nurse said and then took Taylor back. Sarah felt helpless as she was not allowed to be with her daughter. Taylor walked into the room with the nurse. “Please, have a seat. Dr. Trey will be in here soon.” The nurse said to Taylor then shut the door. Taylor looked around the room and soon the door opened. Taylor turned to the door to see a man in his 40’s entering the room. “Ahh, you must be Taylor.” The man said as he extended his hand to her. “I am Dr. Trey. It’s nice to meet you.” “Nice to meet you too.” Taylor said as she sat down. “So you are needing therapy. Tell me about yourself and why you think you need therapy.” Dr. Trey said in a very soft spoken voice that made Taylor want to speak to him about everything. “I have had night terrors for as long as I can remember.” Taylor began telling Dr. Trey. “Well night terrors doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal.” Dr. Trey said not quite sure what the issue was. “I remember my night terrors and I have flash backs through the day about them as well.” Taylor explained further.
Dr. Trey looked at Taylor intrigued by what she was telling him. “So you remember every detail?” Dr. Trey asked Taylor, completely fascinated. “Yes, I remember all of it. Most of the dreams are the same just cycle in a rotation. Almost like a never ending loop, with a new one added every now and then.” Taylor said to Dr. Trey. “What are one of your dreams?” “There is a dream I have that I am running away from something. I have never found out what I was running from. I end up in this prison that is underground, almost like a basement. I found a smaller girl who followed me everywhere. There were men there and other children of different ages. The girl took me around and her name was Janet. She introduced me to a man who was a psycho serial murder and he disguised himself as a hero. He managed to fool so many people into thinking he was a hero. That is how he managed to kill so many people. The girl was actually a killer as well, but she helped me out. At night there were monsters who would try to get into everyone’s rooms to kill them. Janet took me into a room and shut and locked the door. She gave me a dirty baby doll to hold. She hid in a vent while I somehow sat on top of a light fixture hanging from the ceiling.” Taylor began telling Dr. Trey.
Dr. Trey offered Taylor a glass of water as she told him the dream. She gladly accepted the glass and took a drink before continuing. “These monsters broke into the room and tried to reach me, but I was just out of their reach.” Taylor said to Dr. Trey. “What did these monsters look like?” Dr. Trey asked, wanting to hear more. “The monsters were that like you’d see on television or in dreams. They were super tall, grey, deformed faces. They almost looked like they did not have eyes, but they had hands, arms, feet, legs like a man or woman would. They were big around as well. They had no hair and glistened with sweat from how hot the prison was. They tried to reach me, but they couldn’t. When the sun started to come up, they went away. They were afraid of the sun. I was then told that those monsters actually wanted to doll and Janet thought it was funny that she gave it to me. She knew if those monsters got ahold of me for taking the doll, they would have ripped me apart. There was another girl that slept on the floor and was not bothered by the monsters. She told me to stay away from Janet. I tried taking her with me when I finally escaped, but she couldn’t cross the doorway to the outside.”
Dr. Trey looked at Taylor completely lost for words. He wrote in his notes that she needed to receive in-patient treatment. He was thinking how much money he could get out of the in-patient treatment alone with Taylor. He wanted to find out if she knew how to get to the darkness she dreams about. He was extremely excited to say the least. Dr. Trey just needed to figure out how to convince Taylor’s parents to admit her into the in-patient treatment. Dr. Trey looked at Taylor and said, “Taylor, I think it would be best to do in-patient treatment. I feel that is the best route to go in order to get your night terrors to go away completely.” Taylor looked shocked at him and her fight or flight instincts kicked in. “I am not staying here, you are highly mistaken. My parents will not sign any papers to commit me.” Taylor said with a disbelieving, nervous laugh. Dr. Trey nodded and stood up. “I am going to speak to them and we will come to a compromise.” Dr. Trey said and left his office to go speak to her parents. He was determined to keep her as long as it took to reach those locations Taylor had tucked away in her brain.
Sarah, Collin, and Margaret sat in the waiting room waiting for Taylor to be finished with her appointment. The door opened and to their surprise Dr. Trey walked out into the waiting room. He smiled and walked over to them. “Hello. I am Dr. Trey, your daughter’s therapist. She has told me what she dreams about when she has night terrors. It is very alarming, especially since she remembers it all, down to every last detail. I truly believe she would benefit more to in-patient treatment. We can keep an eye on her better and adjust medicine as needed.” Dr. Trey said to Sarah and Collin. Collin frowned and said, “my daughter is not crazy. She has always had bad night terrors. Why would she need to be committed to a mental facility?” Sarah placed her hand on Collin’s left arm and looked at Dr. Trey. “She is not a danger to anyone, including herself. Why would she need to be committed? We are not signing papers for this.” Sarah said becoming very upset. Margaret walked over and stood next to Sarah and Collin. Dr. Trey then said, “she will be able to finish school during the day and be home on the weekends. She would just have to be here to sleep. If her night terrors do not improve, then we will have to have here here full time until they are gone.” Sarah looked at Collin, then to Margaret. “May we have a moment please? We want Taylor out here as well. That is not a question. Bring her to me now.” Sarah said to Dr. Trey trying to keep her composure.
Dr. Trey walked over to the receptionist and put his clenched fists on the counter. “If they say no, then I am going to have to be forced to use my right as a medical professional and commit her myself. Her mental health is not..” “You will bring me my daughter now Dr. Trey. You do not want me to tear this place apart to get her do you?” Sarah said to him with a growl. “You need to calm down ma’am. You both can commit your daughter or I will commit her myself and put down she is a danger to herself and others.” Dr. Trey said threateningly. Collin grabbed Dr. Trey by the shirt and lifted him off the floor. “Go get us our daughter, now.” Collin said to the receptionist who as terrified of what just happened. She got up and walked to the back rooms to retrieve Taylor.
