I am Luna

I waved to my parents unknowingly for the last time, their black BMW was swallowed by the darkness of night. They opted to go without an entourage since they had never felt safer, as we had just wiped out the largest rogue nest near us. A few rogue survivors had tracked them for a few days, ultimately killing them before they could reach my mother's maiden pack territory. They were only a few miles shy. Her pack had said that they'd put up a good fight in the end. Taking what seemed like the rest of the rogues with them. That made me happy, I knew that if either of them had survived it would've been torture. Their bond was unmatched, my father spent each waking moment of his life trying to impress or satisfy my mother in any way. I idolized their marriage and would accept no less from my mate. And now I am Luna. The elder Alpha had found me in my mother's sun room, it still smelled of her. The scent of incense was strong in the air coupled with her herbs she was drying for her teas. Crystals of quartz and jade caught the light and made the room shimmer with rainbows. I laid in her self made nest of pillows and throw blankets, I could smell the familiar scent of my father as he preferred to spend most of his time beside her if he could. My tears soaked into the pillows I can't believe that they're gone. "Wren, come here my darling", Elder Cane reached his weathered hand out to me. I took it and he pulled me into a bear hug, for a retired Alpha his strength was surprisingly still there. My body went limp in his embrace and tears blurred my vision, I could barely breath through my sobs. He held me close till I quieted down again. My heart was broken but my eyes hurt too much for anymore tears to come out. "I know you have just been through the most painful couple of days Wren but it is time.", Elder Cane pulled my chin up so that I could meet his gaze. I could see that he had been crying too not just because we had lost our Alpha but because he had raised my father as though he were his own son. I wiped my face on the back of my sleeve and took a shaky breath. Elder Cane held my hand and led me out to the main courtyard. I am going to be officially made Luna and forced to shift before my time. This ceremony is often thought to be cruel and even seen as blasphemous by some. But noone wanted to challenge me to be Alpha. And ourpack needs a leader. I was led to the center of the pack, everyone but the pups and a few pregnant moms were present. Those that have already turned were in the center and those who haven't or couldn't anymore were in the back. Elder Cane let me go and I got on my knees. Tonight was a full moon. Someone covered me in a red robe and had me drink something bitter, I closed my eyes and braced myself for what was about to happen. Incense burned my nose, it wasn't a familiar smell. "Goddess we present to you our Luna!" The pack chanted in unison I felt a shock flow through me. "Goddess we need our Luna!" I could feel a flame start to burn in my core. "Goddess we need her wolf!" I heard a howl barely a whisper but it sounded so comfortingly familiar. "Goddess we ask for our Luna and her wolf to become one!" It had felt as though someone had set me on fire, I screamed out in pain. "Goddess we need our Luna!" With their last chant my skin tore and bones cracked, pain seared through me as my wolf fought against her summoning as it was too soon. She howled in pain and they mixed with my screams. I could hear my pack argue amongst themselves. "I told you we shouldn't have forced her to do this!" My best friend Leo was screaming at someone. "This isn't right is she going to die?" A woman was crying somewhere. "I demand to speak to the wolf inside Wren!" Elder Cane's voice silenced the pack. I could feel my wolf get angry at his demand, yet intimidated by the power in his voice. A power only an Alpha could carry. My body popped and cracked and skin pulled in strange places, my screams were enough to traumatize any who watched. "Wren isn't ready, its not our time!" My wolf hissed out through my screams. "We need our Luna, what is your name?" Some members of the pack started to plead to my wolf along with Elder Cane. "My name?" "Your name Luna, please tell us your name", everyone started to beg her. I could feel her starting to be appeased as they coaxed her. I could see green swirls mixing with shadows, I knew this stone my mother told me it represents leadership and protection. Malachite is my wolf's name. "Malachite" I gasped out before she could stop me, she tried to go back from where she came. I could tell she was angry at me for accepting this, this is for the good of the pack I retorted to her anger. "Goddess our Luna is Malachite we accept her!" Elder Cane gave me a smile as he turned to look to the moon. Wolves started turning trying to form a mind link with Malachite. Elder Cane was chanting the rest of the ceremony, those who didn't turn chanted with him. I could feel the pull of power building inside us. She wanted to resist but their howls called to us, "is there no one else?" She growled at me. "Unfortunately we are the sole heir to this pack Malachite our mom almost died giving birth to us. So dad didn't want her to risk having another." She giggled as my memories played like a movie for her to watch as Dad explained to me at 4 years old why I wasn't allowed a baby sister. The pain disappeared, she was starting to accept me. "They were so lovely", Malachite cooed as she watched my favorite memories. "Yes they were", my heart grew heavy with the reminder that they were gone. Malachite whined as tears started to flow from our eyes. "Can you help me make them proud Malachite?" I wanted to disappear as much as she did, I wanted her to take me with her wherever she came from. I knew she could feel my pain and I prayed to Goddess it was enough to convince her to stay with me. I can't do this alone. "Okay Wren, I'm here now", she whispered and with that she came forth. Her wolf tore out of our skin her black fur revealing itself in the light. Unsurprisingly she was beautiful, slender yet powerful, her eyes the most beautiful green. The pack linked with us it felt as though our head exploded as voices all at once welcomed and cried out to us. Malachite the true leader she was growled them silent. "Lets run", she howled and took off. Wolves took formation behind us, I could see Leo making his way to our right. He intended on being our Beta. Malachite took to a full sprint, "whoever can keep up can be our Beta!" Our night was filled with wolves sorting themselves into a rank. Since I was the new Luna their old titles no longer applied, it was up to them to challenge each other. Leo wasn't strong enough to be a Beta in the end. He had always been more suited to be an Omega, he said that his wolf had no ambition and only cared about gaining knowledge. I laughed because they were more alike than he thought. Surprisingly the night ended without anyone imprinting with me. So my mate isn't from our pack, I felt disappointed that I had to wait a little longer to find him. Since I was all alone now that is.
