CHAPTER ONE:THE MATELESS KING
LUCA POV
The moon hung heavy in the star-strewn sky, casting a silvery glow over the dense forest that cradled the Dacen Pack's territory. Within the heart of the woods, nestled among ancient trees and winding streams, lay the pack's sacred grounds, a haven for werewolves bound by blood and loyalty.
In the heart of this sanctuary, Luca, the Alpha of the Dacen Pack, paced restlessly in his chamber. His movements were fluid yet tense, betraying the turmoil that churned within his soul. Tonight, like many nights before, he felt the weight of his responsibilities pressing down upon him, threatening to suffocate him in their unyielding grasp.
The scent of pine and earth mingled with the faint traces of wildflowers that wafted through the open window, a gentle reminder of the untamed beauty that surrounded them. But despite the tranquility of the night, his mind was plagued by relentless thoughts, each one a testament to the burdens he carried as the leader of all werewolf packs.
With a heavy sigh, he ran a hand through his midnight-black hair, his piercing blue eyes reflecting the weariness that settled deep within his bones. His pack relied on him to keep them safe, to lead them with strength and wisdom in the face of adversity, as does every other pack under his guidance. Yet lately, the weight of their expectations felt like chains, binding him to a destiny he had never chosen for himself.
As Alpha, he was duty-bound to find his destined mate, the one whose soul resonated with his own, the one who would stand by his side through every trial and triumph. But despite his unwavering commitment to his pack, he couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that gnawed at his heart, the sense of longing for a connection he had yet to find.
The moon cast long shadows across the chamber, painting the walls in shades of silver and shadow. In the quiet stillness of the night, he closed his eyes, seeking solace in the embrace of the night. But even in the darkness, his thoughts raced like wildfire, consuming him in their relentless pursuit.
The phone call he had with his mother during the day had only added to the turmoil in his heart. She had told him his little sister, who was pregnant with her third child, had given birth. She wants him to be there as that was his sister’s first son and could probably be the next Alpha King since he was mateless. The conversation made him wonder if his mate was out there, somewhere beyond the boundaries of their territory, waiting to be found. Or perhaps fate had deemed him unworthy, condemned him to wander the lonely path of solitude for all eternity because he has searched all werewolf packs even vampires and witches communities in hopes that his fated might be there.
The thought brought him down the memory lane of his childhood. In the werewolves’ world, a normal werewolf gets their wolf at age 18, betas and gammas get theirs at age 17, Alphas at age 16, while Alpha Kings get their wolf at the age of 14. But one phenomenon is common to all wolves; they all get their mate at the age of 18yrs old. But he got his wolf at the age of 12yrs old in a rogue encounter which made everyone discover that his wolf was a rare Lupi wolf which was the most powerful werewolf in all of history and was thought to be a myth.
His training has been doubled ever since he got his wolf and lots of people; werewolves, vampires and every supernatural had been looking forward to his 18th birthday with the hopes of been mated or related to the powerful Lupi. His 18th birthday was as glamorous as a Met Gala with Alphas and Lunas from all over the world showing off their eligible daughters. The vampires, shape-shifters and witches were also showing off their daughters like they were some exquisite antiques. Those who had no daughters where pushing their sons to make friends with the Alpha King to be or his beta and gamma hopefully.
That day his gamma and beta both found their mates as did many others who attended the ceremony but he, the birthday boy, had no such luck. That day had felt more like a curse and made him hated celebrating his birthdays ever since. He should have been crowned Alpha King a week after his 18th birthday but the ceremony was put off till he was 20yrs old because he hadn’t found his mate. He was sure the council members would have nullified his inheritance had his wolf not been a rare and powerful one. He was 32yrs old now, been the Alpha King for 12yrs and has been searching for his mate for 14yrs. He has been to all of the wolf packs, vampires’ communities, witches coves and shape-shifters packs. But after 6years of fruitless search, he has tried to put the issue of a mate behind him as much as he could and faced his Alpha duties clearly. That had worked a bit until his conversation with his mom today. He loves his sister and has no issue with her kid but he wished he would be training his own child not another.
With a heavy heart, he turned away from the window, his gaze drifting to the moonlit landscape beyond. The forest stretched out before him, a vast expanse of untamed wilderness that whispered secrets of a world beyond his own. He had to rest tonight has he would be flying out with his gamma to wish the mother and child, and most probably determine if the baby had what it takes to be crowned the next Alpha King.
But tonight, as the stars danced in the heavens above shining brightly as if mocking him, he couldn't shake the feeling that his destiny was about to collide with forces far greater than he could ever imagine. And as the night wore on, he couldn't help but wonder if somewhere out there, amidst the shadows and the silence, his mate was waiting, their fates entwined by the bonds of destiny and desire.
After tossing and turning on his bed, he checked the time and realized it was 4am so he decided to take his morning run and checked the perimeters of the pack. He put on his running clothes and shoes and set out to the woods. He met some of the warriors on night duty and exchanged greetings with them before he went on his way again. He didn’t change to his wolf form and his wolf has been restless even more than he was all night. He ran across the whole pack ground checking on the warriors as he ran past their posts. He stopped when he came across a hilltop; the land behind the hill was a sacred place that belonged to only the Alpha King and his mate. The place was called Xamia, it was a beautiful landscape with a waterfall and an underground cave filled with mystical creatures called xamians. Xamia is a place where the Alpha King goes to after officially mating with their fated. They are tended to by the xamians who grant them mystical powers and the likes. He has never been able to experience the beauty though. He looked on ahead longingly and sighed as he jogged back to the pack house where he met the omegas preparing for the day activities.
“Good morning, Alpha” they greeted.
“Good morning, ladies” I replied “what’s for breakfast this morning? I’m famished.”
“Bacon, eggs, sausage and pancakes are on today breakfast. Is there anything you’d like specifically?” The head maid, Hilda, replied.
“That sounds good. I’ll like a cup of coffee now though.” I said.
“Okay Alpha” she replied.
I leaned on the door frame lost in thought again as I waited for my coffee.
“Here your coffee, Alpha” Hilda said with a smile.
Her voice jolted me out of my thought. “Thank you, Hilda” I said.
“Send someone up to my room in an hour time to pack my luggage.” I told her as I walk back to my room to freshen up and get dressed.
I walked into my closet and put on a shirt and trouser with a black sneaker. I wasn’t really in the mood for dress up and hank the goddess it’s a family occasion. My sister was mated to the alpha of the Thunderstorm pack and my parents went visiting when she first announced her pregnancy.
“Jeff, Seth, I want you both in my office in 15 minutes” I mind-linked my beta and gamma.
“Yes, Alpha” Seth, my gamma, replied.
“Can I not come, Alpha?” Jeff, my beta, asked grumpily.
“You get your ass here in 15 minutes or I’ll send you as the leader of the next delegation to the Council.” I told him through the mind-link.
“Wow, dude. Chill I’m coming.”
“How can you change your mind so quickly bro?” Seth inquired.
“I’d rather die than meet with those grumpy withered men. I can’t bear it again.” Jeff lamented.
“Ha-ha, scared cat.” Seth joked.
“How about you go?” Jeff said.
“I wasn’t the one complaining.” Seth replied.
“How about you two get out of my head and get your asses here already?” I told them both.
“You know we could just mind-link whatever information we want to pass to each other, right?” Jeff said.
“Last time I agreed to that, I had a headache that lasted for weeks. So get your lazy ass down here man and bring your bags with you Seth. We’re leaving after breakfast.” I said.
“Yes, Alpha” Jeff replied.
“Roger that Alpha” Seth replied.
I closed the mind-link and walked to my office that was just down the hall on the same floor as my suite. Not long after, my beta and gamma both came in. I went through the routines with Jeff since I’ll be going for two days. I had to make sure everything was in place and I know he is more than capable to take care of the job in my absence. After that, we went down for breakfast and our bags were already put in the car truck before we were done eating.
Seth bid his mate and cubs farewell and we were on our way to the airport. We boarded the plane and arrived at the airport in Fornia. The moment we landed, my wolf got restless and the feeling I had last night became more intense. I had a foreboding I’ll be experiencing more than my little sisters’ child name party.
