She stood there, eyes wide in disbelief. A shiver ran down her spine as her mind
processed the words Bryce just said. "No. It can't be true! You're lying!" She repeated again
and again to calm down her nerves. She told herself that he was lying but it was no use, she
could see it in his eyes, she could feel the truth in his words but a part of her wasn't ready to
accept the reality.
She took a few deep breaths to take it all in, to compose herself but the moment she
calmed down, it hit her. She frowned and gulped as she looked up to meet his eye. In order
to have a clear picture, she had to find the last piece of the puzzle he laid down in her mind. And her heart sank deeper and deeper as she looked at him only to find guilt ridden in his
gaze.
"This is it." She whispered, "You...how could you? I thought...." it felt like something
stuck in her throat, she failed to complete her sentences.
She took a crystal paperweight from her table and smashed it hard against the wall
behind him and it passed merely inches away from his face, above his shoulder and in the blink of an eye, it shattered into a thousand pieces. She felt an unbearable fit of pain in her
chest, as she felt her own heart shattered into those countless pieces.
Her entire figure
trembled as she saw her worst nightmare unfold right before her eyes in the form of the most
bitter reality of her life. She felt a severe urge to do everything in her power to go back and
change it all but she was well aware of the fact that she can't.
Her mind went blank. There
was only one thing she could think of. There was only one memory running in her head.
******
(Flashback)
He was standing in front of her. Watching her with his stormy grey eyes filled with
pain. He was hurt. She knew he was hurt but she didn't want to see him. He begged her to
listen. He wanted her to know the truth but she was bewildered. "Go away.... please! Leave
me alone." She said while crying.
It was so hard for him to see her like that. He knew he couldn't make her understand
unless she didn't want to. She left him no choice but to leave her alone while her heart was
yelling, shouting at her to stop him but she didn't. She looked at him and her heart was torn
apart to see his eyes filled with tears and pain. He came closer, kneeling beside her he
cupped her cheeks and made her look at him.
"Don't do this. Don't do this to us please! The moment you'll realize what you've
done, I swear you'll regret it. But you won't be able to fix it anymore."
"I won't...Just...just go away!" She managed to say without crying her heart out in front of
him.
He closed his eyes as he rested his forehead against hers while Victoria covered
both of his hands on her cheeks with her own. Tears streaming down her cheeks. He sighed.
"I hope that someday, you'll understand why I did what I did. I hope you know, at some point
you realize, that all I did was just to protect you from the evils of your own life."
A lone tear trailed down his cheek. His jaw clenched."Damn it Tori I love you! How
can I leave you behind and live a peaceful life?"
"I 'loved' you too." She whispered and he felt his heart being crushed down by the
words she chose to confess her feelings right now. He opened his eyes as he pulled away from her and stared in her dark blue eyes glistening with tears like a sea under the
moonlight.
He leaned over her and kissed her forehead softly as he whispered in her ear,
"Farewell Victoria!"
Her heart was hammering against her chest and she gulped at the thought that
she'll never get to see him again. Never. Ever. He was leaving. Forever.
She came back to her senses when he stood up and turned to leave. Suddenly she
felt cold, alone, helpless and even worse she felt life leaving her body with each step he took
away from her.
When he had disappeared into the distance, she cursed herself for letting
him go. Tears started pouring down her cheeks unstoppably. She cried out louder but she
knew no one was there to listen and that eventually became the deepest regret of her life.

Tears started trailing down her face. "It hurts!" She whispered closing her eyes while
tears escaped down.
"You were always right. I was wrong, every decision I made was wrong
and I can't fix it anymore. You said I'll regret it. You were right, I am regretting. And now it's
hurting me more than ever. I've always loved you, I even loved you the moment I forced you
to walk away but I didn't confess it because I thought you...." She sighed in between her
sobs.
"Oh Darren I regret every single moment I've spent without you for past six years."
She shook her head and when she opened her eyes, she found her rage overcoming
her senses. As soon as her gaze fell on Bryce, she felt her blood boiling in her nerves. She
slammed her hand hard on the table as she walked around the table and bent down to reach
his level as he was sitting, a fire burning in her eyes, her piercing gaze was set straight on
him and she asked "Why?"
********
Darren was sitting on the bed, his face stern as he looked at something on his laptop
screen and was talking to someone on the phone in a very serious tone when someone
knocked at the door. He snapped his head towards the door to find Rebecca standing in the
doorway as the door was halfway open.
"May I?" She asked in a low voice.
He nodded and she entered. "Check it properly and let me know, I'll call you back."
He said as he cut the line.
He looked up to see her standing near the bed, he motioned her
to come and sit beside him as he closed his laptop and placed it on the bed side table. He
noticed the confusion and nervousness on her face and frowned.
"What is it?" He asked very gently.
"I.." she stopped and looked up at him. "I'm sorry Darren." She started looking down on her
lap. He furrowed his brows in confusion."What for?"
"I... You know I shouldn't have talked to you like that. I shouldn't have said those things in
the office this morning. I was just kidding with you but... Guess you took it seriously. You've
been so silent and serious the whole day. And I'm sorry if it's because of me that you're in a
bad mood." She shrugged.
He raised his eyebrows in confusion, then smiled at her. He couldn't have thought
that she felt guilty for joking. He was just upset because of the memories that flashed in his
mind at that time but he could not tell her anything about that.
He moved closer and hugged
her little frame, smiling at her. "Don't worry, it's nothing like that. I was just upset because of some work issues."
He said as
he pulled away. "I didn't mind anything you said Becca, I know you were kidding, not to
mention as per your usual habit of teasing and annoying and irritating your brother during
work." He chuckled softly making her laugh.
She smiled up at him. "So you're not mad at me?" She asked.
He shook his head and pinched her nose as she scrunched up her face annoyingly. And they both giggled.
