YOU WERE MY ALMOST

PAYTON’S POV “s**t! It’s 8am, get up Daniel!” I say as I hurriedly leave the bedroom to the bathroom to go take a quick shower. I met Daniel at a club just yesterday and somehow he convinced me to hook up with him WITHOUT PROTECTION. “s**t I’m gonna be in so much trouble” I say as I regret my horrible mistake. I had a test by 8:30am and I couldn’t let a stupid mistake ruin my perfect grades. By the time I was done taking my bath in a rush and brushing my teeth, Daniel was just getting up from bed. “You dumb f**k!! I told you to get up over 15minutes ago and you’re just waking up!!” I say out of rage. “Relax darling, unlike you, I’m done with school and I can be lazy”. Of course I forgot, I didn’t even know anything about him. f*****g a random guy on a Thursday night was definitely not what I had planned out for the week but oh well. I dashed out of Daniel’s house in a rush to meet up with my test and at that moment it dawned on me, I did not know my way around here because Daniel had booked us an uber to get here and I wasn’t even paying attention. “f**k you Payton!! You hoe, now look where you’ve landed yourself in.” I blame myself in rage. I ordered an uber quickly and saw that the waiting time was literally 10minutes, my test started in five minutes, I was done for. I waited impatiently for my uber to arrive and when it finally did I begged the driver to speed up as fast as he could “oi lady, this isn’t your own car ya know, my dear baby runs fast on fuel and you gotta charge extra for fast cars”The driver said I checked for my wallet “s**t!” “Oi dear, what happened” I left my wallet at Daniel’s place and it contained my ID to enter school, “um sir please I don’t know if it’s possible for you to reverse and drive back to the original place you picked me up from, I promise I’ll pay extra” He reversed angrily and took me back to Daniel’s place. When we reached I immediately dashed into his house and looked for my wallet. “Hey darling, looking for this?” Daniel said as he held up my wallet. “You know darling, maybe the universe doesn’t want you to leave, maybe we could.. continue? From where we stopped?” He said “Get the f**k out of my way!! You know you can be classified as a pedoph-", I was cut short by the uber driver‘s honking. “Oi Madam! I’ve got places to be ya know” I cut my conversation short with Daniel and dashed for the door. I arrived at school by 9am, I was literally thirty minutes late. “Mrs Neveah is gonna kill me gosh” I murmured to myself. As I was about to take a turn and head upstairs for my test, I bumped into a tall masculine figure, “hey dweeb, watch it.” I didn’t even have time to apologize or retaliate because I was so focused on getting to my test. I finally got to class, panting and gasping for air. “Ma’am I can explain, I-“ I was cut off by Mrs Neveah “Do you know what the time is?, this test is literally about to end in the next five minutes and you show up now?, I know you’re carefree AND smart but you have to give school the enough attention it requires” “I’m so sorry ma’am, if you would allow me I can still hurry and finish the test” I instantly regretted my statement, I didn’t even know what the test was about, talk less of studying “Ok then Miss Payton, take a seat and in the next five minutes, you hand in your paper” I sit down while I wait for her to hand me the test and then she finally hands it to me. “5 minutes! That’s all you have” Immediately I saw the test I sighed a breath of relief because I literally read this topic three weeks ago and hopefully I was gonna remember it. Five minutes was up and Mrs Neveah wasted no time in taking my test sheet. “Alright time’s up!, I know you didn’t get to finish but sadly I don’t care” I laughed at the shock on her face when she saw I completed my test sheet. “You are one lucky girl, Payton Richards,” She said with an awkward look on her face. The bell rang and it was time for recess. “Payton!! Where have you been? I was sick and worried about you”, my best friend Charlotte said. “It’s a long story Charlotte, I just can’t really explain right now but when I have the energy I’ll tell you all about it” I told her “You know ever since your parents got a divorce, you’ve been pretty off lately, please you know you can talk to me, that’s why we’re best friends” “I know Charlotte it’s just that right now I’m just not in the mood for a chitchat” I told her weakly “Ughhhhhhhh, this week has been so awful” I whine to her “Why don’t we go get ice cream from the truck outside and we’ll unwind together okay?” She offered “Okayyy.” I told her As we were walking, all of a sudden a crowd was forming around someone, I tried to see who it was but the crowd was too much. “That’s probably Jackson” Charlotte said “Who the heck is Jackson?” I asked her “Oh you weren’t around this early morning, Jackson’s the new student and he’s super hot” Charlotte described him. “Well whoever this ‘Jackson’ is, he’s the reason why we can’t go out through the front door and I’m in dire need of chocolate ice cream” I said feeling stressed out. Me and Charlotte decided to go through the back door of the school to go get ice cream and as we were walking, eyes were on us. “I heard last night she was in a club” “I heard she followed some guy home” some girls whispered I walked up to one of them “You know, next time if you wanna gossip about someone, you should really learn how to keep your voices down, you piece of s**t!!” I say angrily. “Woah what was that about Payton, what did she even say?” Charlotte asked “Nothing, just nothing Charlotte” I replied Charlotte and I finally managed to get to the ice cream place and I finally told her everything that happened. “I went to a club yesterday” I said “WHAT??” Charlotte said “Keep your voice down Charlotte” I told her She said softly “what??” “I thought you needed to be at least 21years to enter a club? How the f**k did you get in??” She asked “Well it’s a long story and here is how it happ-” “Payton, hey there!” I was rudely interrupted by Samuel, my annoying cousin who lived with me. “You know I didn’t see you home last night and your dad was losing it, make sure you get prepared for when you get home.” “Ok, thanks you can go now” I told him. “Can I stay at your place today? I’m really not in the mood to face my dad right now” I asked Charlotte. “Of course you can Payton, you know that is your home too” Payton assured me. “Thank you Char” I told her. Payton and I have been best friends since the beginning of senior year and she has been the best friend I could ask for. Her life was perfect compared to mine. Her parents were still together, she was the only child living in a luxurious mansion and she got anything she requested for. She was living the dream, unlike me. My parents got divorced six months ago and ever since my life has been a mess. I don’t even know how I ended up here, sleeping with random guys, drinking, going to clubs, and breaking multiple school rules. My dad was a mess, my mom divorced him because he had sunk the entire family account into a shabby business and put all of us in debt. Now you may be wondering, he didn't cheat, and he and my mum could’ve gotten out of debt together but honestly I think my mother just grasped the first opportunity to leave the marriage because with the looks of things, she did not love my dad anymore. Their spark died the day my brother, Lucas died. My Father was a drug Lord, and he was making money out of his business, until a rival drug cult came and told him to retire. But my father was adamant. We received threats for so long but my father couldn't care less. My mother warned him but he didn't listen to her until one day, my brother Lucas was walking back home from a party and was stabbed by unknown men, before he could be saved, he lost a lot of blood and sadly, died. But that was over five years ago but it still felt fresh in my mother’s mind everyday and till date she is still convinced my father’s rivals are behind it. Recess was over and it was time to head back to class. “Hey Char, I’ll tell you all about it later when I come over today, ok?” I told her. “Sure, I’ll be expecting you.” Charlotte had history class while I had art class and we went our separate ways. “Umm I would really love to hang out with you” I remember that dark masculine voice but I couldn’t seem to pinpoint where I heard it from. I see a tall, handsome guy with light brown eyes, short silky wavy hair that enhances his already perfect facial features. And then it dawned on me, he was the guy I bumped into this morning when I was rushing to Mrs Neveah’s class. He was asking Talia out, the captain of the cheerleaders. Immediately he left, he said to his friend, “I can’t wait to hit and just dump her” He saw me standing behind him “Are you ok?, you know eavesdropping is a bad manner” I didn’t answer him and walked away. “HEY! I WAS TALKING TO YOU”, he shouted I just kept walking cause I did not have time to argue with whoever that was. School was over and Charlotte and I decided to go home. I was about to go use the bathroom when I bumped into someone, it was him! The guy I met earlier today. “You’re really obsessed with me aren’t you Payton?” “How the f**k did you know my name and who do you think you are to talk to me like that?” “I will be your worst nightmare if you don’t watch that attitude” He said “And guess what, I don’t care, move out of my way please”. I go to the bathroom and very soon, Charlotte comes in.
