It is in the early 90s when domestic violence and a***e caught the attention of many. Wife beating was a normal thing in the African society. Over time, people seem to have forgotten or are living in ignorance that this immoral act is on the rise in the 21st Century. This article expresses heartfelt pains after seeing viral videos and photos of men beating their wives in public and all we do is talk. I believe that this article shall not only be read but it shall be read to transform and stir us up to stand for our daughters, sisters and mothers.

Can I leave my marriage?
Marriage in the African context is highly valued. Going back to the African traditional society, leaving your marital home was unthinkable and nobody saw it as an option. Well, though times have changed many people will hold that marriage is sacred, it should be respected and protected with all efforts. I agree and I believe majority of people will agree that the latter statement is true. Leaving your marital home, made you an outcast and nobody would want to be associated with you. This form of embarrassment made women who went through hell at their homes choose to stick to their marriages. Those defending African culture might want to say that the women didn't leave because they had children to take care of or that the women saw a bright future. That is far from the truth. My concern is, why should we continue oppressing and suppressing our mothers', sisters' and daughters' feelings in the century where we think people are civilised? Why do we continue to look at them as mere s****l objects and like people who have no feelings, no decisions to make and like they don't deserve any kind of respect? Why do we continue to beat them, blame them when a child is not forthcoming while the problem could be us? Does anyone know how precious and beautiful do women make life to be? Does anyone know the key role and responsibility they play? I mean does anyone know that it is women who are carrying African Continent's economy on their back? I insist, we must, love, care for, respect and protect women. We must condemn all evil acts against them. We must demand for justice for those women whose rights have been abused. We must acknowledge that they have brains and can make decisions. They can say yes or no. We must celebrate Women.
