Leonard:
I puff a cigar before blowing it into the cold night air; I am at the balcony of my room, staring emptily at the night sky. I never for once thought that Irene would leave and six years later, I still don’t know where she is or even how to contact her.
My fiancée left me six months after Irene left. It turned out she had been cheating on me with her colleague, and she said there was no way in hell she was marrying me, so she took off with Justin, her colleague.
More than a year after she left, I lost my soon to be Luna and I lost my best-friend. I didn’t know how to function anymore and learning that she left had a huge blow to my heart. I paid agents, spies and investigators huge amounts of money just to look for her.
I just need some kind of assurance to know that she was safe.
I said some really stupid things that day, things that I regret even till this day. I acted like a fool, when Alejandro told me all about her feelings for me, I felt even worse, I felt selfish. I wished I could go back in time and change what happened, the fact that she was my mate and I threw that away made it even more painful to bear.
I still never believed she could leave without saying goodbye to her family; I became the Alpha and buried my head into my Alpha duties, sometimes I brood over alcohol and that didn’t help.
Like any other night, I couldn’t sleep; I was restless and desperate to find her. I just need to see her. Gentle hoofing of shoes resounded behind me and I know it’s my Beta, her twin brother, Alejandro.
“You need to rest; we have a meeting with the neighboring pack tomorrow morning.” He says in defeat, standing beside me, he knew I was thinking about her again. When she left, he got worried, so worried he sought to look for her everywhere.
He lost his happiness and sometimes, I would catch him alone staring at a photo of her, her father got worried, he almost sank into depression, everyday, we all leaned into the hope that she would come back. Alejandro was mad at me for some while when he learnt the reason why she left the pack-house.
“Irene is safe somewhere.” Alejandro tells me reassuringly, “She just got hurt because she discovered you were getting married, she’s just taking some time to heal.”
“It’s been six years, man.” I say with my shoulders slumped, bringing the cigar to my lips.
“She will come back, have some sleep,” He gives me a pat on the shoulder, before walking outside. Loneliness surrounds me as I go to my bedroom, shutting off the lights before crawling into the cold covers.
The next day, I am sprawled in my office behind the countless stacks of folders; the gentle wind blowing in my face as I picked up the pen. Alejandro walked in wearing a flannel shirt and faded trousers, strands of jet black hair falling out of place, his gray eyes pinned me down.
“What is it?” I ask without looking up, my throat dry, I could really use a glass of whiskey right now.
“An agent is here to see you, he says he has some information to give you.” Hope fills me and maybe the agent finally has the answers to where she is but I am not getting my hopes high, even the top class agents have failed in getting her location.
“Let him in.” I say and Alejandro exits the room, minutes later he walked in with a young man. Alejandro stood near the door as the man took his seat.
“Do you have any information about her whereabouts?” I ask with hope.
“Yes, I do.” My heart escalates a bit.
“What do you have?”
“I have found her location, currently she’s in Canada in a pack known as Iron Fur.” The man says confidently, passing me the documents.
Alejandro gasps. Is this true? I stare at the documents that have her card of residency. I can’t believe this, after years of searching I finally know where she is.
“Alongside with her daughter.” Something in me deflates. Irene has a daughter?
“This time last six years, she gave birth to a daughter.”
My heart stops, I replay the man’s words over and over again. Somehow...could her daughter be mine?
“My sister has a daughter?” Alejandro almost yells, stepping further, our eyes lock together. “I need to see her right now.”
“I am coming too.” I have spent years searching for her location and now that I know where she is, I am not going to sit back and watch, especially after knowing that she has a daughter. The news is still baffling to me as I recounted last night.
“Thank you for your help.” I shake the man’s firm hand. My body is still rigid in shock and all I can think about is facing her after so many years. There are so many things I want to say when I see her. I need to see her right this instant.
“There’s some more information I will email to you.” The investigator bows before exiting the room, my heart is still running wild and feral.
I turn towards Alejandro . “Get the private jet ready, we are flying to Canada this instant and tell the Gamma, Chase to manage the affairs while we are gone.”
“Alright.” Alejandro says, still shocked at what he just heard. I can still see the surprise swimming in his eyes.
“I am coming, Irene.” I say silently to myself, grabbing my jacket from the edge of the chair before walking out of my office.
