THIRD PERSON’S P.O.V.
The two had succesfully went out of the hospital as Darren pushed the door of the exit open on the morgue at the basement of the hospital and Keith slowly pulled the blanket that is covering her whole body to reveal her face while some of her hair covered her face. Darren did not fail to look at Keith’s face in the middle of the disaster and chuckled, amazed by it. Keith looked back at him with a sharp glare and blew the hair on her face away as she rose from the stretcher while a person walking on the other side of the parking lot had noticed her rising up on her own. On a thought that Keith was naturally dead and being taken outt of the morgue, but rose up on her own, the man ran out of the area horrified by what he saw and did not let the two explain what just happened.
Keith quickly went off of the stretcher and fixed her shirt as she took out the phone on her pocket and dialled her Mom while Darren excused himself to start his car.
The phone rang for a second and her Mom answered.
“Hey Mom.”
“Hey dear, why haven’t you had a sleep yet? You should take a rest, it’s almost midnight already.”
She turned around and gave Darren a look first while he was busy getting the car started, at the same time, wondering why her Doctor is helping her ran away from the hospital.
“I can’t sleep. there’s so many things going on in my mind and it’s impossible to not think of them. I just can’t believe I could vividly remember my child face, and now see a woman in front of the mirror when I look in it. It’s like a slept for an entire decade of my life.”
“I understand how hard it must be for you rifht now, honey. Your Dad and I are blaming ourselves everyday since you were braindead. That is why your Dad and I never wanted you to work that kind of job in the first place.”
“Mom, stop. It was my choice, and none of the both of you wanted this to happen. Afterall, even though I’ve lost count of time, I could feel like I might be exactly the same as I used to be.”
“You were”, her Mom said on the phon as she chuckled softly which made Keith curve a small smile on her lips as well.
“Exactly the same ever since you were a child.”
“I always wanted to go to camping when I’m finally at a legal age because you’d never let me, at least when I’m still a minor. So did I went to camp alone when I got 18?”
“You did. Right after your birthday. You packed up on your camping bag, took it on the car your Uncle gave you as a gift, and told me: I’m 18 Mom, your law says I can’t go camping until I’m of legal age.”
Both chuckled as they talked about it. Even she, herself, was impressed of how she remained exactly the same as she was.
“And I like to live near a river, so did that happen? Do I live somewhere near the river?”
“Yes, you do. Do you recognize where the Torres Highway is? The one headed to the next city south? There’s a street there called Mario Street, and right at the end of that street, is your house. You’re basically the only one in that area, and sometimes when I visit, I’d catch you swimming the river naked.”
“Mom, you’re embarassing me right now”, she said and looked at Darren who gave her a thumbs up to say that the car is good to go and she responded with an okay hand sign with his thumb and pointing fingers bended together and the other three fingers stretched up while her Mom continued chuckling on the speaker of the phone.
“What’s there to be embarrass? I’m your Mom!”
“You’ve never changed. Anyways, I’ll head for sleep now, Mom. Good Night.”
“Good night, sweetheart. I love you, and don’t hesitate to call your phone when you need something. Your Dad has had a lot of policemen guarding the hotel so they’d be one call away.”
That, I knew definitely. And that is why I had to go through pretending to be dead, and had someone think of me as rosing back from the dead because of that, Mom.
She said inside her mind.
“I will, Mom. Love you too”, she said and ended the call with a smile, dropping it as quickly as she could when she went to the car and slid in.
She was buckling her seatbelt while Darren gave him a stare as his hands remained on the steering wheel.
“So? Where are we off to?”
“Enlighten me. Why did my own Doctor helped me sneak out of the hospital?”
She asked, looking at Darren who only had a smirk on his face and broke the stare.
“That’s a secret.”
“Well that’s a mysterious secret I’m gonna have to wonder of for a long time.”
“So where are we off to now?”
“Do you know a Torres Highway anywhere?”
That’s headed south of the city. Why?”
“I was told there was a Mario street in there, that’s where we’re going”, Darren nodded as he started back the engine of the car and slowly went out of the morgue, and then out of the hospital, running the car on the empty road in midnight.
“So what’s in there that you want to see?”, Darren asked casually curious as he focused driving while Keith answered him casually in return as she remained looking outside the window of the car.
“My house.”
