I was home and I was still thinking about Stephen and his unborn child. How am I supposed to cope with this situation?
Of course, I knew he used to fool around a lot, and eventually one of them might have gotten pregnant, but the fact that it was Dani. That’s my only problem.
I was seated on the couch in my living room still in my work clothes, as I did not have the power to change when the doorbell rang.
I knew who it might be and I really did not want to answer but I decided to give him a chance to explain, though what would he say? ‘I had s*x with Dani and got her pregnant but forgot to tell you?’
I walked to the door and opened it and was standing in front of me an obviously tired Stephen.
His jacket was in his hand and his shirt’s first buttons weren’t done. He had one hand on the borders of the door with his head resting on it and he instantly looked up when he felt the door open.
I stood there looking at him waiting for him to say something but instead, he just looked at me with no emotions across his face.
“Let me explain.” He finally said and I directly moved from the entrance signaling him to come in.
After he was inside, he placed his jacket on the arm of the chair gently and turned to me following me until I sat on the couch facing him.
“I found out not long ago and I didn’t know how to tell you because it was too shocking and I couldn’t even remember the day I slept with her.” He sat down next to me and started talking but I wasn’t able to show any reaction even though I tried.
“I don’t expect you to be okay with this, but that child is going to be mine and I will be a part of his or her life whether you want it or not. The question is if you want to stay in mine.” He said with confidence though I could see a glimpse of worry in his eyes.
I did not answer right away. He asked me if I wanted to end what we have right now or if I want to stay and accept Dani as a part of our relationship.
My eyes were still looking at him with no reaction coming from both of us. I diverted my focus a little and stood up facing him.
I sighed and told him what I had decided.
After everything we've been through, I did not want to throw it all away because of a mistake. Just like everything else, I wanted us to fight past it and still be together.
“Okay,” I said, and when I did, his facial expression instantly changed.
“Yes?” He asked standing up and walking closer to me like he was relieved.
“Yes, but don’t expect me to like her or even treat her any better. I’ll respect her enough since she’s your child’s mom and that’s it.” I said and he hugged me directly.
“I’m not asking you to love her, just cope with her until the baby is here.” He said against my neck still hugging me tightly.
We spent a little time together until it was really late and he had to go home.
The next day, I walk into my office and find Lea sitting in my chair behind the desk.
“Hello.” I laugh seeing her sit there like she became the manager and was ordering things around.
“Have a seat Ms. Adams.” Her back was straight and her tone was very serious so I laughed more and sat in front of her.
“So, you’re almost six months pregnant and we are having a boy. However, we wanted to give you the honors of naming the baby.” She said still serious and I didn’t know how.
They wanted me to name their child? Really?
“Answer me already. Will you name him?” She asked going back to her usual self.
“Yes, it would be a pleasure, Lea” I smiled at her request.
“Great, thank you so much, Oli.” She stood up walking my way.
“Okay, I’m late for something. Is there anything you want to talk about before I go?” she asked and her question was tempting me to ask about Stephen and Dani’s relationship.
I ended up shaking my head because I didn’t want to invade his privacy and I was finally alone in my office.
The rest of the day wasn’t very exciting, just files and reports coming in and out of the office.
I was about to leave the company when I got a text from Stephen.
‘Hey want to go out for dinner?’ I stared at the text not knowing what to answer.
‘Yeah okay.’ I decided to go to dinner with him. We agreed to go back to normal and accept Dani as an addition to the relationship so I didn’t want to back away now.
I heard another ping coming from my phone and it was him saying he’ll pick me up later on.
Later that night, Stephen and I went to a nice restaurant, we were about to order until I saw a woman I hated too much walk our way. I instantly look at Stephen and realize from his face that he had planned this.
I shook my head in disapproval so he took my hand but I took it back to tell him that I’m not happy with the trick he pulled.
“If I act calm it’s because of who she is for you, doesn’t mean I’m happy with it,” I answered with fire coming out of my mouth with every word and Stephen leaned back with a clenched jaw.
“Hello, Stephi.” How is she always this annoying?
“Oh baby, help me sit down, I can already feel the baby getting heavier.” She said holding her belly.
What the f*ck?
She’s probably one month pregnant how is that even possible?
I swear she is doing all of this for attention and I don’t like it. I’ve been pregnant for six months and never did I ask ‘Stephi’ to help me do anything.
“Hello, Olinda.” She said looking at me with that fake smile of hers.
“It’s Olivia, Dani. Please show some respect.” The man next to her told her.
“Oh I’m sorry, it’s just the hormones messing with me.” She still had the smile plastered on her face.
I didn’t react to her I just looked at Stephen with daggers in my eyes and all he did was turn away scared to die.
The waitress came back after being interrupted by Dani and we ordered our food.
We were having tiny conversations now and then since it was too awkward considering the relationship, we had all three of us. I was Stephen’s ‘girlfriend’ and his sister’s surrogate. Then Dani is his child’s mother and not a friend of mine, far from one.
“So, Stephi, did you tell Olivia about our wedding?” the moment Dani said those words my eyes went wide and I directly looked at Stephen.
He looked as surprised as I was and he turned to Dani with furrowed eyebrows as if he was waiting for an explanation.
“We’re getting married?” he asked leaning back on his chair.
“Yes silly. You’re the CEO of a huge company. You don’t want to have a child without being married, do you?” she put her hand on his neck and played with his hair and I raised an eyebrow not wanting to make a scene.
Stephen removed her hand and looked at me and he clearly saw nothing on my face. I had no expressions on my face and at that point, I didn’t care.
First, he hides Dani’s pregnancy and now she’s asking for a wedding.
“Olivia-“ He starts.
“No, it’s fine I understand. You can marry her, you lied about her pregnancy anyway, plus, it’s not like we’re dating.” I say going back to eating my food without seeing Stephen’s face after my comment.
“Are you serious? After all of this, you don’t care if I marry someone else and you say that we’re not ‘together’?” his eyebrows were almost touching.
I looked at him again and came closer leaning my elbows on the table.
“She’s already pregnant, with your baby. And she’s right, becoming a father without being married will ruin your reputation considering you still have your playboy one.” I shouldn’t have said that.
His eyes went wide and I looked away feeling guilty.
He didn’t say a word but I could see a faint smile on Dani’s face from the corner of my eye.
Oh, I wish I could remove that mouth of hers. How peaceful my life would be.
“Imagine, Stephi and I getting married.” Wrong time Dani.
“I could call myself Mrs. Mal, short for Malcolm.” She continued.
Mrs. Mal? Seriously?
Why did that name sound so familiar?
After thinking of it for a while, I remembered.
‘“I don’t know. She asks me to call her Mrs. Mal.” He said and I was confused, who the hell was Mrs. Mal.”’
My eyes widened.
Oh my god.
Dani caused the accident.
