Chapter 1: The Call to Storybrooke
The setting sun painted the bustling city in a warm, orange glow, creating a picturesque backdrop for Emma Swan's latest assignment. As a tough and determined bail bondsman, Emma had built a reputation for being one of the best in the business, and she had no intention of letting that slip.
Outside a dingy bar, she stood with unwavering determination, her gaze fixed on her target. Stepping into the dimly lit establishment, she was engulfed by the lively symphony of laughter and music. Her eyes swiftly located a familiar face; Jack, a charming yet dangerous criminal, leisurely sipping whiskey at the bar. Emma approached him, her hand gracefully resting on her holster.
"Jack, you're coming with me," she stated firmly, her voice exuding a controlled authority.
Jack's mischievous grin met her unwavering gaze. "Emma, darling, I've missed you."
Emma rolled her eyes. "Save it, Jack. You're not charming your way out of this one."
As she escorted him out of the bar in handcuffs, her phone buzzed in her pocket. Pulling it out, she felt her heart race at the sight of "Henry" flashing on the screen.
"Hey, kiddo," she said in an attempt to sound casual, despite the fluttering in her stomach.
"Mom, I need your help," Henry's voice sounded urgent and fearful.
Emma's instincts snapped into focus. "What's wrong, Henry? Where are you?"
"I'm in Storybrooke, Maine. Please, Mom, you have to come."
Emma's mind raced as she tried to comprehend Henry's plea. Storybrooke, Maine? She'd never even heard of it. But something in Henry's voice told her that this was serious.
"I'll be there, Henry. I promise."
As she hung up the phone, a sense of apprehension swept over Emma. What was she getting herself into?
