HOW DO I KNOW MYSELF? Finding The You That God Created Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, “Who am I, really?” Not the name people call you. Not the job title. Not the roles you play - daughter, wife, mother, friend, leader. But the real you. The you that God thought of before the world began. I asked that question for years. I used to live my life trying to fit into other people’s expectations. I listened to every opinion. I wore every label they gave me. “You’re too much.” “You’re not enough.” “You’ll never make it.” And slowly, I got lost. I was living a life that looked good on the outside, but on the inside I felt empty. If that’s you today, I want you to know: *You are not late. You are not broken beyond repair. God can still lead you back to yourself.* 1. WHY WE LOSE OURSELVES We don’t lose ourselves in one day. It happens slowly. *We lose ourselves in other people’s voices. We grow up hearing, “Be like this. Act like that. Don’t dream that big.” After a while we believe it. We silence our own heart to keep the peace. *We lose ourselves in our mistakes. I made mistakes, Rev. Big ones. I thought, “Because I failed, I am a failure.” Shame put a mask on me. And for a long time I believed the mask was my face. *We lose ourselves in comparison. Instagram, church, family gatherings. We see someone else’s highlight and think, “I should be like them.” So we copy. We perform. And the real us gets buried. But Proverbs 4:23 says, _“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”_ God wants to guard the real you. The you He created on purpose. 2. GOD ALREADY KNOWS THE REAL YOU Here’s the truth that set me free: Before you ever tried to figure yourself out, God already knew you. Psalm 139:14 says, _“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”_ God didn’t make a mistake when He made you. He didn’t make you too quiet, or too loud, or too sensitive. He made you exactly how He wanted. Jesus said in John 10:3, _“He calls his own sheep by name.”_ God knows your name. Not the nickname people gave you. Not the title. Your God-given name. So discovering yourself is not about creating a new you. It’s about *uncovering the you that God already wrote in heaven.* 3. 6 QUESTIONS THAT WILL HELP YOU FIND YOURSELF AGAIN I had to sit down with God and ask Him these. Take your journal and the Holy Spirit with you: *Question 1: Who does God say I am? Not who did your teacher say you are. Not who your ex said you are. God says: You are chosen. 1 Peter 2:9 God says: You are His masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10 God says: You are a child of the King. Romans 8:15 Write those down. Speak them every morning. *Question 2: What makes me come alive? What did you love as a child before people told you to stop? Singing? Writing? Helping? Building? That joy is a clue. God puts desire in us to point us to purpose. *Question 3: What breaks my heart? Your burden is connected to your assignment. If injustice makes you angry, maybe you’re called to stand for truth. If broken families make you cry, maybe you’re called to healing. *Question 4: What do people thank me for? Ask 3 close people: “What’s one thing I do well?” You’ll be surprised. Often we can’t see our own gift, but others can. *Question 5: What am I doing that isn’t mine? Is there a career, relationship, or dream you’re carrying that God never gave you? Lay it down. You can’t find yourself while carrying someone else’s assignment. *Question 6: What is one small step I can take this week? Discovery is not a big event. It’s baby steps. Read one scripture. Say no to one thing. Try one new thing. 4. THE PROCESS WILL BE MESSY - AND THAT’S OKAY I won’t lie to you. This journey is not easy. There will be days you feel like you’re starting from zero. Days you cry and say, “God, I don’t even know me anymore.” But Isaiah 43:19 says, _“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”_ God is doing a new thing in you. It might look impossible at first. But as you keep walking with Him, things get clearer. Be patient with yourself. Jesus spent 30 years in obscurity before He started ministry. God is not in a rush. He’s in a relationship. 5. HOW TO KEEP YOURSELF WHILE THE WORLD TRIES TO CHANGE YOU 1. Remove other people’s pictures of you. Unfollow accounts that make you feel less. Stop going to places that drain you. Stop listening to voices that were never sent to build you. 2. Be your own cheerleader. Encourage yourself in the Lord like David did in 1 Samuel 30:6. Clap for yourself. Say, “I’m proud of how far I’ve come.” 3. Stay in God’s presence. The Holy Spirit is the best counselor. John 14:26 says He will teach you all things. Ask Him daily: “Father, show me more of me.” 6. A PRAYER FOR SELF-DISCOVERY Let’s pray together: _Father, in Jesus’ name, Thank You that You know me better than I know myself. Forgive me for believing lies about who I am. Forgive me for trying to be someone You never called me to be. Today I ask You: Remove every false label. Heal every wound. Show me the me that You created. Help me to see myself through Your eyes - loved, chosen, and called. Give me courage to walk in the truth, even if it’s scary. I surrender my identity to You. Mold me, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen._ YOUR ASSIGNMENT THIS WEEK Don’t close this chapter and forget it. Do this: 1. *Write this down*: “I am not what happened to me. I am who God says I am.” Put it where you’ll see it. 2. *Answer 2 questions from above* in your journal. Just 2. 3. *Speak one truth about yourself* every morning: “I am God’s workmanship. I am not a mistake.” *CLOSING WORD Rev, you are not a failure. You are not behind. You are not too broken. You are on a journey back to yourself. And the best part? You don’t walk it alone. God walks with you. The world doesn’t need another copy of someone else. The world needs YOU. The real, healed, God-led YOU. So take a deep breath. Start from zero if you have to. And let God introduce you to yourself again. Because when you know who you are, you will never settle for less than what God has for you
