Slap!
The noise shocked everyone, it was so loud that a few of the people in the crowd flinched from the pain they knew that the slap caused. But that wasn’t the main reason why everyone was so stunned.
If it had been Lucas who had slapped Kevin, the response wouldn’t have been so extreme.
But instead it was the second person holding back the alpha.
Kevin’s mate, Sophia.
The woman who usually is so head over heels in love with her mate it seems he could never do any wrong.
Now, if looks could kill, Sophia would be standing over Kevin’s mutilated body.
“Shut up Kevin, you’re only talking to Lucas this way because you think you did a good thing. but you didn’t do a good thing Kevin. You brought our son out here. If Lucas hadn’t been so concerned for his beta to-be and followed you guys here, you two would’ve been dead.”
Like a mad man, Kevin shook his head and smiled to his mate. “No, honey we would’ve been fine. They weren’t as weak as they used to be but they still don’t know how to shift so we were safe.”
Lucas shook his head and scoffed at his foolish friend, momentarily wondering why they were friends at all.
“Kevin, you really are a fool.” Kevin, didn’t like being called a fool by a coward. Growled at the alpha for interjecting himself in the conversation between him and his wife. But Lucas ignored the disrespectful ingrate and continued.
“She’s not talking about the ones you killed. We are talking about three obvious alphas who would’ve had fun gutting you and your son, had we not been here! Are you f*****g serious? Do you not realize what you have done.” He said before sighing deeply. Tired of the back and forth banter Lucas turned towards the soldiers he brought to rescue his old friend.
“We’re leaving, bury the dead. And then bring the i***t and his son willingly or not, I don’t care.”
“Yes alpha.”
…
“Sophia, do you understand that this cannot go unpunished.” Lucas said as he leaned back in his office chair and pinched his nose.
Sophia leaned forward and clasped the hand Lucas had resting on the desk, frantically searching her mind for an explanation or a compromise but after a moment of holding the alphas exhausted gaze she relented back into her seat.
“My son cannot be without his father. As misguided as Kevin was. He had good intentions. Please don’t make my son suffer the same pain that you and Kevin had to endure.”
Lucas sighed again feeling the soreness of her words rubbing into the wounds of his past.
“Sophia, i understand what you’re saying, I do. But I am your alpha which means I can’t just think about him. I have to think about everyone in the pack and that includes you. And he is a danger to you.”
Tears began to fall down Sophia’s cheeks at the harsh words coming from Lucas.
“He would never hurt me, Lucas.”
Slam!
Lucas’s fist hit the table with a force that made the wood creak as if in pain.
“Maybe not the Kevin of the past but this Kevin is different. This Kevin, looked you in the face with no remorse when you spoke of the dangers he brought to your family and shrugged. He f*****g shrugged it off, Sophia! This Kevin doesn’t give a s**t about anything but revenge.” Lucas stopped his rant when Sophia began to sob harder.
All of his anger froze seeing the hurt of one of his people he swore to protect. Deep in his heart he knew that she was doing what any good mate would do. And hated having to be the bad guy.
“Look, I never said I was going to throw him out to the wolves…pun intended.” Sophia shot a look at Lucas as if to tell him to stop embarrassing himself. “But I am saying that he broke the rules and challenged his alpha publicly. Now I can forgive his cocky display but i can’t let him keep breaking the rules. He rose the bridge that connects the island to the pack land, Sophia. I didn’t even know he knew the bridge was hidden in the water. Did you?”
This time it was Sophia turn to sigh. She wiped her tears and leaned back in her chair. The way she sat, showed how torn she was.“No, I didn’t. And did you hear him say that they were stronger this time. I thought I always knew where Kevin was but tonight wasn’t his first time on the island. So when was his first time there and what did he do?” Her voice began to break again as she felt overwhelmed again.
“Breathe, Sophia. That’s not what’s important right now. Right now what’s important is reining him in before he tries to go out again.” Lucas said, hinting his plan.
Sophia thought it over for a moment even though she knew Lucas was right, she still had to tell herself that this was for the best.
Finally, she nodded.
…
“Attention, everyone! By command of alpha Lucas of the Onyx pack. Kevin Leeroy Solace, has been found guilty of endangering himself and his community. He has also been found guilty of abusing his status to procure devices to aid in his crimes. He then, brought this own son and his trainee, the beta to-be to be an accomplice. Making him also guilty of Coercion of the impressionable. All of these things are unforgivable and should be harshly punished. However, due to his many years of service to our pack and understanding of intent. Mr. Solace’s punishment has been reduced. That being said, Mr. Solace has been placed on house arrest indefinitely. He will be stripped of his beta’s title and will be prohibited from shifting into his wolf without the alphas clearance, or severe danger to his life. His beta title includes his leadership or mentorship to anyone. So anyone seen assisting Mr. Solace in his furthering his abhorrent endeavors will be stripped of their status and banished from the pack. Phillip Camry solace, is also suspended from his duties until further notice and will be under a strict visitation schedule with his father. He must not be seen with his father, unless his mother or the alpha is not present. If you witness these acts, it is your responsibility to make a timely report to the alpha or stop the interaction even if force is necessary. That is all!” The Gammas chief announced. It was heard across the whole pack through the pack bond.
When he was done, Lucas gave him a nod of approval and was beginning to stand up from his chair when a frightened young voice echoed through the bond.
“Help, they’re going to kill him!”
