Diaz's POV Earlier That Evening… Staring into the burning flames, feeling the intense heat, listening to the crackling sound, watching as the smoke made its way to the heavens. I was lost in thoughts, even if one had asked me what I thought about, I still couldn't answer. I watched my pack soldiers eating and drinking themselves into oblivion. The air carried the aroma of a roasting game, tales of each catch mixed with laughter, everyone had triumphant faces. Today was more of a hunting game than our casual training, not long after speaking with my beta when Rachel mindlinked me. "Come to the Training entrance, we're being ambushed by Rogues." Her voice trembled with tension, I felt a mixture of urgency and desperation. "Rogues!" I voiced back in confusion. What could they be doing here? How did they enter the Palace grounds? I quickly stood up, bursting out a roar while changing to my wolf. I mindlink the soldiers around me, "The Luna is under attack by rogues, we need to protect her." I quickly dashed from the camping ground towards the Training Gate, I turned around and saw my pack members following me in unison with power and instincts, their paws striking the ground in rhythm, all ready to fight at will. The Rogues would regret ever stepping foot into my Palace grounds. Finally, I could vent all of my anger on them, these past days, rejecting my fated mate, getting rid of her, and making her best friend Luna, All because My Parents hated her. But why, Ever since they found out she was my mate, things suddenly turned around. Her barrenness gave them an opportunity for me to reject her. Bringing my mind back, I could sniff not one but two scents, Wait? Is that Elara? Could she have returned with Rogues for revenge? No, she wouldn't. "Kill any Rogues you can find? Make them pay for attacking our Luna?" I howled. As soon as we arrived I saw Rachel lying naked on the floor wailing, I couldn't find Elara. "Where is She?" I roared. Rachel pointed towards a pile of torn clothes and cut hair all covered in blood without a trace of her body. What could have happened here? Rachel feels fine to me, just frightened. I walked closer to the pile of clothes and blood. This certainly smells like Elara but where's her body? Something doesn't feel right. "Wait What happened to her?" I growled, "One minute she's here and the next she's." I turned over to Rachel in expectant of an answer. But she was still in shock leaving me in silence. "Search the woods and kill any rogue you see?" I commanded my Soldiers. Shortly the pack doctor arrived, attending to Rachel. "She seems to be unharmed Alpha, I found no scratches or bruises on her." The pack doctor commented. "Alright, take her to the pack house and make sure she's warm and protected," I commanded him. Still standing at her death scene, I kept on pondering… Why Elara? What connection must she have with the Rogues? Besides, why do I still care so much? What was Elara doing here in the first place? I arrived at the Pack House, walking towards the room Rachel was assigned to. My Beta Daniel came up to me saying; "Alpha, I can't pinpoint the real cause of this attack." My hands were on my waist, staring at the marble floor. I finally let out a sigh, "And her body?" "Still no trace of it." He commented. "There were no blood traces or drop paths, it was as if she vanished." "Alpha, Could this be planned? Is she Alive and just faking her death?" Beta Daniel Questioned in uncertainty. "Guess we would have to find out from Rachel? She was present during the whole thing." I voiced, staring at the room's door she was at. My Beta nodded in agreement. Walking inside, I asked the doctors to excuse us, "How are you feeling Rachel?" I asked, sitting right next to her. She pulled herself up trying to rest on her back. "I'm feeling much better." She responded. "Besides, I and my Beta are here regarding the Attack, so what happened to her?" Discomfort swept across her face. "And why do you care so much about her now? You wanted her dead anyways, so why the sudden concern?" I never wanted her dead, damnit. I voiced in my head. If only Elara could have my Heir. At this point, Rachel must be happy that she's finally gone. I sometimes wonder if she loves me for who I am or if she just wants me so she can become Luna. "Relax babe, it's for the safety of everyone here." I said, stroking my hands on her thighs, "If I don't know what happened, I won't be able to prevent it from happening next time, okay?" She folded her arms, facing her sides. "I didn't see what happened to her, An eerie silence struck me, still frightened, I turned over to Elara, but she was gone." "It all happened within the blink of an eye, It was as if they came for her, not me." She concluded. "Hmm" I slowly turned over to my Beta, He reciprocated and nodded leaving just I and Rachel alone in the room. "I do trust you, babe," I said to her while leaning in closer. "But, why did she return? Even after all that has happened. Rachel was silent for a while then she finally vioced out, "She came back lying that she was pregnant." Her eyes narrowed down, "Did she think she could fool us? I stood my ground and made sure she never came to you." "Wait did you just say Pregnant?" I said in an excited yet frustrated tone. Rachel raised one of her eyebrows in confusion. Elara wouldn't have been so foolish to return here after everything unless she truly was pregnant. She had to give it her last chance if I'd accept her, of course, I would. But it's too late now. How will I be able to live with this truth? I could feel my wolf whining in regret. it never got the chance to witness the birth of its pup. Elara would have been a great mother and Luna. I raised my nose after I picked up a familiar scent. Wait! What's that scent? Could that be- Before I could finish, The door pushed open.
