Maximus-
I have one rule. One time together and never more. So there should be no issues now.
‘…yet look at us now. Look around. If I throw a rock, we would probably hit at least five women you screwed in the main hall of Black River Pack alone. Dalia is about to shift to a damn animal she isn’t even aware of because…” I cut Beast off.
‘No! Don't finish that sentence. We are here to protect Dalia as she comes into her true gift and self. Then we leave.’
When I cut off Beast, the ladies seem oddly nice.
“I’m so sorry. I’m Brooklyn. He helped train me and discover my gifts. What about you?” Brooklyn smiles innocently.
“Wow, small world! I’m Dalia. He was sent to help me discover my skills. Small world!” Dalia turns to me. “Look Maximus, it’s your dear friend Brooklyn.”
I have no idea how I am in trouble for being single. Yet here I am. I stretch my neck from side-to-side, looking at Alpha Ronan, who hides his smile.
‘I am not getting in this one man.’ He mind-links me.
“Ladies, I would love to have afternoon tea with both of you. You both are critical parts of what has to happen here to help Dalia.” Luna Briar saves the day. I try not to have a sigh of relief as to make this pot boil over once again.
“It would be an honor, Luna.” Dalia regains her sweet demeanor.
“Yes, I will be there.” Brooklyn smiles and looks at me, instantly dropping her smile that was once on her face. She passes by without a word to me.
“Let me show you guys to your room.” Luna Briar tells us as we walk towards the elevators. Just then, I hear two tiny little pairs of feet racing at top speed towards us.
“Uncle Maxi!” “Uncle Maxi!” The twins come running with their warriors detail looking worn out already. The twins are almost four years old now. Two heads of curly dark hair barrel towards me. I drop to my knees, still extremely tall next to them. They run, and I grab one in each arm.
“Hey kiddos! I missed you! Wow, you two are almost as tall as I am!” I joke with them.
“Reign is shorter than me. Daddy said I would be taller than him when I grow up!” River informs me.
“Nope, I am taller than you now, and I will be smarter than you when we grow up!” Reign sticks out her tongue at her brother.
“Hey, enough of that.” Luna Briar stops the incoming competition.
“Dalia, these are the twins of Luna Briar and Alpha Ronan. This is River.”
“I am the oldest!” He yells proudly as Dalia smiles.
“And this beauty is Reign.” I add.
“Only by two minutes. I could still run this pack if I wanted to.” Reign adds.
“No way!” River yells.
“What did your mother say?” Alpha Ronan speaks, and they instantly quiet down.
“Sorry.” They say in unison.
“Well, it is so nice to meet you.” Dalia bends down to shake their hands. When she shakes hands with Reign, her little eyes go wide. She looks at her mother, who gives her a knowing smile.
“Mommy!” She runs to her mom to loud whisper. I stare, not knowing what she is about to say. Briar covers her daughter’s mouth and smiles uneasily at us.
“What?” Dalia asks.
“Reign has powers, but she is four. So, her mother is still reigning her in on those abilities.” Ronan explains to us both. I stare with a questioning smile. She blushes and hides behind her mother’s leg as she peeks out at Dalia.
“O-kay…” Dalia looks at me with a nervous smile.
“Oh Luna, I am sorry, the twins got away from me. But the guys stay with them no matter what. Just like you said.” I sweet older lady walks up with a baby on her hip.
“No worries, Martha.” Briar takes the baby and kisses their little chubby cheeks. “This is baby Riktor. He is our one-year-old.”
“Oh, my goodness, he is so adorable!” Dalia swoons and holds the little fist of the baby. The baby is happy to see her. I wonder what they see. “Three kids! How beautiful. Congratulations, Luna.
“Four actually.” Luna Briar touches her barely noticeable stomach as Alpha Ronan takes the baby from her.
“Wow! I didn’t even pick up on it?” Dalia tells them.
“Yeah, neither did I. She picks it up sooner than I do.” I add.
“It’s the babies. They kind of unknowingly shield us from things. It’s quite exciting to see.” Briar tells us. “Come on, let me get you to your rooms.
“Come on twins, we are going to have some fruit and cheese snacks in the kitchen.” Martha tells them as they are easily over meeting us. She takes baby Riktor as we head up in the elevator.
“So, you can sense pregnancy? Is there anything else you are aware of with your gifts?” Briar asks Dalia.
“Well, I know I come in peace. Maximus said I don’t have an evil bone in me. Oh, and I can mirror shift.” She says all nonchalantly.
“She can duplicate herself. I’ve seen it first-hand. But only Erin and I could see it. It was pretty damn amazing.”
“Nice skill, Dalia.” Briar smiles as we exit the floor.
“Thank you, Luna. I look forward to meeting with you for lunch.” Dalia smiles.
“So do I. Maximus, you know Ronan and the guys will be expecting you. Here we are.” Briar points to one door.
“I have a boyfriend!” Dalia all but yells as we both look at her.
“Okay? Maximus, you will be here and Dalia, you are next door.” Briar points to another door.
“Sorry…” Dalia whispers.
“Dalia, I will have a warrior escort you for lunch. Maximus, you know where you are going. Unless you want to give her a tour. That could be nice of you.” Briar walks off while we stand outside our doors.
“I will give you a tour. How about half an hour?” I ask her.
“Sure.” She walks into her bedroom, closing the door behind her. I want to go after her. I know she has stuff running through her head, and I want to give her answers. But damn it, I don’t have answers.
I knock on her door, waiting for Dalia to answer. I get no answer. So, I knocked again, and still no answer. I place my hand to the door, trying to feel for her heartbeat. I don’t sense anything. She isn’t in there. I turn frustrated and head down to the main floor. She was due for lunch but not for another hour and a half.
‘Alright little flower. I will find you. Don’t appreciate you standing me up.’ I take the stairs two at a time.
‘Sorry, I didn’t want to keep you from all your female friends. I ran into a nice housekeeper who was very happy with your arrival. She told me to tell you to call her.’ Dalia replies.
‘Where are you, little flower.’ I get no answer. ‘I will listen for your heartbeat then.’ I feel her heartbeat pick up as she begins to make a move. I pick up her scent as I pass the dining hall. Turning, she runs right into me. I grab her around the waist as she flails like an eel.
“Damn it. Seraphine is back. She worked here years ago. Then she left for her sister’s wedding and stayed a while to help with family stuff. When I was doing a rescue mission, we ran into each other. She was having a rough time with a sick family member, and I had a rough rescue. We were just there for each other. It was one time.” I hold her against my chest. She stops moving. “Are you calm?” She nods her head as I place her down.
“Well, that’s…” She begins.
“Wait, you have a boyfriend. Why do you care?” I press her against a wall moving in on her. Her breathing picks up as she stares up at me. Anger rising in those beautiful brown eyes.
“I don’t care. I would just appreciate it if we could focus on getting this spell off me instead of all your past women asking me about you.” She begins. “I mean, how many women could you possibly have here? Is there a club? I’ve been here for a few hours and already met two. How many more…”
I just walk up to her and lean close to her face. Making sure when I tell her this that it’s the truth and that she can see it in my eyes. “Just say it.” Her eyes move around nervously.
“f**k you.” She storms off and I am right behind her. I want to let her cool off but if anything happens to her, I will never forgive myself. I catch up with her in three steps.
“I’m sorry.” I tell her and she stops. Turning to face me. “Dalia I am sorry. I am here to help you. I will focus on that. Okay. Please give me a shot.” I ask her. She all but taps her imaginary heel on a marble floor. Except we are outside on the freshly cut lawn. I see the moment she decides to let it all go. She has this huge heart. That will really benefit her gifts and the lucky guy that gets her. Not that damn ding-dong. I want to ship him to Antarctica on a one-way pass.
She gives me a nod and I begin talking. “This is Black River Pack. It is built on the native soil from the ancestors of Luna Kelis. That is Alpha Ronan’s mother. This way north and you get back to the red moon Coven. Over here is the pool area, a labyrinth and beyond there is forest. All included and protected by this pack.” I take her back inside. “Through here is the kitchen, main dining hall…”
“Hi Maximus.” Two she wolves walk by smiling. I look to Dalia and she is trying to hold back her laughter.
“Oh, you find that funny huh?” I smile as she lets a laugh out.
“I sure do! You can’t even finish a floor without a flashback of your world travels.” She smirks.
“I can. Watch…this is the game room over…” I begin.
“Well, well. My big chocolate mountain has returned.” I hear a voice of a familiar woman. I turn smiling while also seeing the exhaustion on Dalia’s face as she turns and looks surprised.
“Dalia, meet one of the newest elders here. We call her grandma CeCe.” I turn to CeCe. “Hey there beautiful, how are you.” I lean down to give the most entertaining woman I know a hug. She peers around me to Dalia.
“It’s nice to meet you Grandma CeCe.” Dalia says.
“Oh, your babies are going to be stunning! Making them will be even more fun!” Grandma CeCe says.
