"The boss wants to see me?" Selina looked around. She had long heard that the owner of Dark Night was an extremely mysterious person, someone even the manager had never met. So why did the boss want to see her? But thinking about the 4000$ she was about to receive, she agreed to follow along.
On the third floor of Dark Night, not only had Selina never been there, but even the manager had never set foot there.
After taking a few steps, she began to feel a lot of pressure. Finally, they stopped in front of a room, and a tall security guard opened the door, gesturing for Selina to enter.
She had only taken two steps when the door behind her closed.
Inside, the room was pitch dark, very quiet, with no light at all.
Selina nervously stepped back, reaching out to feel for the door, but couldn’t find a way to open it. Driven by survival instincts in the darkness, she clenched her fists and knocked on the door, "Let me out!"
Suddenly, faint footsteps could be heard behind her. Selina stopped knocking, pressing herself against the door, her heart pounding. She sensed an invisible pressure advancing towards her from the darkness, surrounding her, making it impossible for her to escape. Selina was extremely frightened.
She suddenly felt warmth behind her, followed by a masculine breath on her neck, trapping her between the door and a man's chest.
“Boss? You wanted to see me?” Selina’s body trembled, and she tried to stay calm. But cold sweat was already trickling down her body.
The man still said nothing, continuing to move forward, pressing them closer and closer together.
He was very tall, and Selina’s head was right at his neck, making it impossible for her to move.
A hot breath blew into her ear, mingled with the man’s panting—provocative and ambiguous.
Then, a burning sensation directly touched her neck; his tongue lightly licked her sensitive, white neck, quickly and precisely finding the artery and gently biting it, sucking on it persistently.
An unfamiliar sensation overwhelmed her, making Selina unable to restrain herself. She felt humiliated and struggled continuously, “Let me go, let me go.”
The man behind her wrapped his arms around her, holding her so tightly that no matter how much she struggled, she couldn’t break free, making her look like a trapped animal.
“No,” Selina screamed in fear, shaking her head repeatedly.
The man slid a hand under her clothes, moving from her waist to her back, touching her without any restraint. Selina felt her head explode, her thoughts chaotic.
“Agree to perform the opening dance at Dark Night. I promise to meet all your conditions, okay?” The man finally spoke, his voice sultry, already hoarse from desire.
Selina's eyes flashed in the darkness like two torches, filled with resistance: “No, today was just a one-time thing.”
“Why are you so disobedient?” The man tightened his grip, bringing them even closer.
“You…” In the darkness, Selina’s fair face turned red, her body trembling with anger. “I’m not an official employee here; you can’t force me.”
“Oh, really?” The man's tone was indifferent, making her firm words seem powerless to him.
Selina took a deep breath, too afraid to move. The cold air she inhaled burned. She forced herself to stay calm, lifting her leg to kick backward, but the man noticed and shoved her forward, pinning her against the door.
“Ouch,” she cried out in pain, “Yes, I will not become a full-time employee here!” Selina’s voice was resolute.
Suddenly, she was turned around, and immediately a hot kiss landed on her lips. Even in the dark, he found her lips with precision, kissing—no, more like biting—tearing her lips, causing pain deep within her heart.
Selina’s body went limp, all strength drained, and she had to lean against the door behind her. At that moment, the man seemed to be done playing and loosened his grip, letting her body slide down to the floor.
“Fine, I’ll wait and see. But don’t let there be a day when you come back crying, begging me. By then, you should know this game won’t be as simple as today.” He spoke so bluntly, his tone filled with confidence, even a hint of contempt.
“I promise, that day will never come!” Although the room was very dark, Selina stubbornly raised her head, her gaze full of strength.
The man walked away, laughing. He walked up to Selina and then threw money at her.
The money hit her shoulder, causing a slight pain, and immediately fell from her arm.
Selina fumbled to pick it up, estimating that there were several thousand, all in cash. She divided it in half, holding onto one portion: “This is my payment for tonight, the rest is still yours.”
Selina emphasized that this was money she earned by dancing, nothing shameful about it. The money from the previous day was the same, earned through her hard work, so she could accept it with peace of mind.
She braced herself against the door to stand up, fumbling for a while without finding a way to open it. From behind, she heard the man’s mocking laughter. Then, there was a clicking sound, and he withdrew his hand—it turned out the door was fingerprint-locked.
Selina didn’t hesitate for a second. She ran out while thinking that she couldn’t work at Dark Night long-term anymore.
The man watched her run away, the smile on his lips growing wider.
Back at home, Selina took out the money and placed it alongside what she earned the previous day, totaling over 10000$, enough to live on for at least the next two months.
She took out her resume, her fingers brushing over the beautiful handwriting on it. She could no longer remember how she felt when she filled out the information.
Early the next morning, Selina dressed in a formal outfit and went out. She had bought this outfit specifically for job hunting but couldn’t remember how many times she had worn it.
It wasn’t long before noon when Selina, holding her resume, knocked on a company’s HR office door.
“Come in.” A voice called from inside. She pushed the door open, and the HR manager looked up and nodded, smiling.
“Have a seat,” he said, pointing to a chair opposite him. Selina quickly handed over her resume. The manager took it and skimmed through it, “You have a very high qualification.”
The HR manager’s serious face softened into a slight smile, and Selina’s tightly clenched hands gradually relaxed.
But the smile didn’t last long. When the manager saw her name, he habitually adjusted his glasses and, with a tone of doubt, asked, “Selina Marie Hathaway?”
“Yes.” Selina nodded anxiously, her nerves instantly tightening. She had been asked this during interviews before.
“Oh!” The manager sighed slightly and handed her resume back to her, “We can’t hire you.”
“Why?” Selina asked, confused. Why was it always the same outcome?
“I can’t explain. Please leave.” The HR manager had returned to his stern expression, looking down to organize the papers on his desk.
Her mood sank to rock bottom once again. The hope she had felt had turned to dust. If that was the case, she would rather not have had any hope at all. Selina stood up, took her resume, and left without looking back.
At Century Square, Selina tightly clenched her hands, crumpling her resume. But then, unable to bear it, she relaxed her grip, smoothing it out again.
The bright sunlight was so intense that Selina couldn’t open her eyes, the dazzling, colorful lights making her dizzy. Taking a deep breath, she sat down on a bench.
