Apple tart
I ran as fast as my feet could carry me I was late and Mrs. McCarthy would not be very happy about it this time. She said three strikes and your out and this was my sixth strike. "I'm here!!" I yelled as I burst through the door of the bakery. I froze as I realized that everyone in the bakery stopped what they were doing to look at me. "Sorry return to what you were doing." I'm as red as a beat completely embarrassed. Mrs. McCarthy stood behind the counter shaking her head I saw the disappointment in her wrinkled face as I walking into the kitchen. Soon enough the day was over and I braced myself for the 'speech' Mrs. McCarthy was going to give. "Mrs. McCarthy I......I'm so sorry I woke up late and then my car won't start and-" "Charlotte stop, I hate to say this but, I have to let you go," She said avoiding eye contact with me. I stood there in utter shock, all I ever wanted to do was bake, ever since I was a little girl I wanted to own my very own bakery and now, I can't even keep a job at a bakery. I gave her the best smile I could "I'm glad I got a chance to work with you, your a remarkable woman." "Look on the Brightside now you have room to grow as a person, get a better job maybe even get your own bakery like you always wanted, plus I'm getting old an sooner or later I would have retired what would you have done then." She went on to add. She was right so I left the bakery attempting to keep a positive spirit. I went outside and have been trying to hail a cab for the past hour and my eyes began to get heavy so I started walking home. It was very dark outside. This isn't so bad I mean It could have been worst at that very moment a car drove into a giant puddle completely soaking me. I arrived home in the next 30 minutes completely soaked and tired. What am I supposed to do with my life now eventually I'm gonna get kicked out of my apartment because I don't have a job. I didn't know what to do so I did the only thing I could do. I took a long warm bath and ate ice cream all night while watching Grey's Anatomy. ~~~ The next morning I woke up with a bad headache I checked the time on my phone and saw 15 missed calls from Kay, my best friend. My eyes widened in shock it 12:30 pm I'm late but the realization hit me I don't have a job. I shook it off well this just means I have time to do other things until I get another job. Getting off of my bed I went to the bathroom and looked into the mirror I sighed as I ran my fingers through my long brown hair I'm a mess. My brown eyes are bloodshot and my hair looks like a birds' nest, sighing I stripped and took a long relaxing shower. After showering and brushing my teeth I put on a green crop top with a pair of jeans and shoes to match. I called Kay and told her to meet me at a coffee shop in town at 3:00 and I was about to leave I went to my car crossed my fingers and turned the key and it starts. Wow starts when I don't have a job I thought as I rolled my eyes. As I pulled up in the parking lot I went inside hoping she was there already. "Charlie!!!" I heard Kay yell across the entire coffee shop as people either glared or shushed her. "Listen this is a public place if you have a problem then leave!" She shameless replied to the people. I don't know what I'd do without her. I went over to our seat. "You look like you got hit by a bus what happened." She said cringing at my appearance. "Thanks for the compliment." I replied sarcastically. "What happened." She questioned seriously this time. "I got fired." After mentioning it I don't feel as positive anymore I felt ars threatening to fall from my eyes. "What!! Mrs. McCarthy fired you, Why." Her eyes widen in shock. I just shrugged and allowed the tears to run over. "I messed up again." I chocked out. "What are you gonna do now you have bills to pay." She added." Well, I should start by getting a new job." "I heard the restaurant down the street is looking for cooks you should try and apply there." She added and I shrugged. We ordered our coffee and talked for a while before it was time to leave. We said goodbye and I started my car, I began to back out of the parking lot. It's been an hour since I got home and I've been sulking in my bed. Am I really going to sit and sulk all my life, I mean come on I'm being pathetic right now. So I am going to get up and do what I love and tomorrow I'm going to apply for that job. I got off my bed and went into the kitchen and began taking out the ingredients to make an apple tart. I put the ingredients together and put the tart in the oven and while it was baking I left the kitchen and began to clean my house. It's been an hour and now my house is clean and my tart is finished. I took a slice of the tart and watched a movie for a while and It was now 9:30 pm. I took a shower and changed into my pajamas, I lay in my bed and thought of the day ahead as I let the darkness consume me. ~~~ Beep! Beep! I heard my alarm ring off, I dragged out of bed and head to the bathroom. I showered and got ready to leave. I put my thick brown hair in a ponytail and I dressed in a white blouse and a black fitted pencil skirt and black heels to match. I went into my car and turned the key and surprisingly it started. I quickly drove down to the restaurant and parked. Quickly I walked into the restaurant I looked around in awe, the restaurant had a grand chandelier hanging in the middle. All the tables and chairs we beautifully decorated and occupied by people dressed in the finest of clothes, now I feel insecure and underdressed. I went to the hostess who was standing in front of a podium she was nicely dressed now I feel even worst. "Good day, do you have a reservation?" She asked with a dazzling smile. I told her that I was here for the interview. She smiled brightly and took me to the manager's office. "Have a seat." I took a seat and took that time to study the manager, He looked to be in his 50s and had dirty blond hair. "Put your resume on the desk and state your name and age." He grumbled not even lifting his eyes from his work. "Well my name is Charlotte Miller and I am 25 years old." I tried not to be disturbed by the fact that he is not paying attention to me. He then looked down at my resume with a surprised look on his face, "You went to the Culinary Institute of America?" He muttered in disbelief. "As a matter of fact, I did." I responded with pride. His face then morphed into a scowl "You went to such an exquisite university But yet the only place you seemed to get a job at is a stupid bakery." "Well, sir I don't seem to see the matter with working at a bakery." I snapped back. "You went to such a superlative university but you wasted all that time working at a simple bakery, you must be absolutely foolish to waste your time there." He snapped. I stood up in one swift movement and slammed my hand on his desk." Now listen old man, you have absolutely no right to disrespect my choices like that. If I want to use my time working in a bakery I'll work in a bakery you understand me and get over yourself you old detestable fool, yeah I know big words too now good day Mr. Smith!" I barked in complete anger. I then gathers my stuff and exited the building. I sat in my car and banged my head against the window. "I'm definitely not getting that job." ~~~ Later that night I made dinner and took a long shower to relax my mind. I heard a knocking on my door, I quickly stepped out of the shower and slipped on my robe as I answered the door. It was my landlord Alyssa. I sucked in a sharp breath, "Good night Alyssa to what do I owe the pleasure of your presents tonight." I said even though I know what she's here for. "Miss Miller I'm here for my rent." Alyssa grumbled looking at me with her stern hazel eyes. "Oh that, I forgot I'll have it for you bright and early Monday morning." I said trying to make it sound as believable as possible. She gave me a bored look before running her hand through her auburn hair "If I don't have that money by Monday you know what will happen." She said before turning on her heels and leaving. Now I have 3 days to get her money Lucky me.
