Chapter One: Typical School Day

981 Words
Brrnnng! The bell signalling the end of school calls out. ‘Freedom!’ I quickly stand up and throw my already packed bag on my back before walking to Sophia’s desk. “We’re free!” I grin, moving to sit on Sophia’s desk as she packs her bag. “I’m free; you have a buttload of work to catch up on,” Sophia mocks me. I pout, “Why must you ruin my joy…” “Hey! It’s not my fault you’ve been so busy with Isaac the past few months,” Sophia winks at me. “Eh,” I blush, “Worth it!” Sophia and I giggle as we walk out of the classroom. Yeah, I may have let my schoolwork slip a little since meeting Isaac, and unfortunately now exams and final deadlines are right around the corner. It’s going to take some serious work to make up for the past few months… I think, losing myself in memories of the past few months… “Claire? Claire!” I hear Sophia’s voice calling me, snapping me from my not-so safe for work thoughts. “Ah-hmm?? Yes?” I turn quickly to look at her. “Do I even want to ask what you were thinking about?” “Uh, no, probably not,” I grin at Sophia, blushing a little. “Well anyway, I was asking about your boyfriend’s birthday, it’s soon, right? He’ll finally find out his mate,” Sophia winks at me, “though, I’m pretty sure the whole school already knows who that is, considering the fact that almost everyone here has seen you make out at least once.” “Well, yeah, they had better all know! …You know what, maybe we should make out more in school, just to make sure,” Sophia grimaces at my words. “Nope, no thanks! I believe I can speak for the entire school here; we are all absolutely fine without seeing any more!” We laugh, approaching Isaacs car. Isaac and I have most of our classes together, but since he is repeating the year (and thus doesn’t have to attend all classes), he often finishes school earlier than me. He still always drives me home though!   We have been together for about six months now. It isn’t uncommon for young wolves to date others before they come of age and meet their official mate. Actually, a lot of the time, that natural attraction drawing young wolves to each other, (before they come of age) is often a sign that that person is their future mate. That’s how I feel about Isaac – I just know he’s my mate. I know it. “Claire!” Isaac came towards us, kissing me on my cheek before pulling me into a hug, “Oh and uh, hey Sophia,” Isaac greeted awkwardly, still embracing me. “Mm…Hey Isaac.” I smiled and hugged him back, burying my head into his chest, just taking a moment to be breathe him in and relax. Isaac being a foot taller than me means that when we hug, he completely envelopes me - it feels so safe.   “…Uh, guys?” Sophia interrupts, “I’m going to head home, lots of work to do, you know…" Claire gives me a knowing look, "I’ll see you later?” “No worries, but are you still okay to hang out tonight?” “Um, yeah... I think I can still hang tonight… I’ll let you know?” “Sounds good! Take care getting home!” I call as Sophia begins to walk away. She looks back with a small, forced smile, her expression tight.  I hope she's okay... “Maybe she’s stressed about the exams…” I mumble. “Yeah, probably…” Isaac agrees, still embracing me, a little tighter right now, although he sounds a bit distant, gazing off into space. “Isaac…” I try to pry myself out of the hug. “Mm?” He snaps back to reality, smiles and hugs me even tighter, lifting me off the ground so I can’t escape. “Isaa-aac!” I squeal, pushing against him as I laugh. “Isaac! I need to go home!” He doesn’t budge. “Isaac!” I giggle, tugging his wavy, dark hair a little with one hand and tickling his side with the other. “Ah! Hey that’s not fair!” He squeals, before finally releasing me from his grasp. “Anyway, why would you need to go home when I’m right here? Surely you don’t have anything better to do than spend time with me?” “Hey! It’s your fault I have so much work to catch up on now anyway!” I laugh. Isaac pouts at me, “I just want to spend time with my beautiful – soon to be – mate,” he leans over me, his dark eyes boring into my own, "Is that so wrong of me?" I lean up and kiss his lips, moving to whisper in his ear “No, but you won’t get to spend any time with your mate if she fails her exams, so, it is in your best interests to take me home,” I back down and grin at him bashfully. “Okay, fine, let’s go,” he lets go of me and unlocks his car, opening the passenger door to let me in, “But I’m coming with you.” "Isaac I need to study!" "Yes and so do I, I have extra work to repeat you know. Will you help me out?" I laugh, “Fine, but no distractions!” I sit myself in the passenger seat, closing the door. “Now that,” Isaac leans over to me, “I can’t promise,” he finishes, kissing me deeply.
