Chapter 11

1408 Words
The morning sun shines through my window. The light was blinding and my head was pounding. Already a great start to the day. I had pretty much made a fool of myself last night. I was encouraging Zachariah way too much. I should not have drunk that liquor. I was getting more brazen by letting him touch me. Truth be told there was a part of me that did not want him to stop last night. I had hoped that he would voluntarily give up the memory after l let him get closer to me. He still wanted more. What was I going to do? I was not sure the memory was even worth it. Zachariah could just be playing me for a fool. Which after last night was exactly what I was. I pulled my pillow over my head, begging the pounding to stop. Then I thought back to my book and chapter I had read last night.   Chapter Three: Healing Magic The domain of healing is by far the most useful application of magic as well as the easiest to learn. Most wielders choose this as their domain because of its practicality and the fact it can be learned in almost no time at all. Healing can be used on a variety of things as simple as a small paper cut to a hemorrhaging wound, depending on your level of mastery.  When learning start out small with simple things like small scratches or even headaches. To start place your hand over the affected area, breathing evenly, and keeping calm. Focus energy into the palms of your hand, giving off a cooling energy.   Alright, it could not hurt to try it on myself. Zachariah had said that my domain before had been healing so this should be a breeze. I placed my hands over my temple and began regulating my breathing. I could feel a soothing cool come over me and almost instantaneously my headache was gone. Well that was pretty useful. It just would not be helpful in trying to get my memories back. I needed to try and focus on a different domain, I flipped the rough the pages a bit until I found the chapter I wanted, attack magic.   Chapter 5: Attack Magic Attack magic is one of the more difficult domains to master, like levitation it relies heavily on your emotional state. If it is used to often it can change the personality of the user. You must have a strong heart and convictions to not be destroyed by your own magic. Attack magic is not only dangerous to the user but those around them. Control is easily lost when trying to wield it, so it is very important to work on your focus.  First skill in attack magic would be the pulse ray. Concentrate on your target and you can let out a pulse of magical energy. Control is key, make sure your emotions are in check, you must remain calm while using. After getting this skill down it can be focused into a stronger more precise laser beam. If you are more of a hand to hand combat fighter you can amplify your kicks and punches. This is one of the less dangerous skills of attack magic. It is also one of the easiest to learn from all the different types of attack magic. Wielders must simply focus magical energy into the hand or foot they were using to impact the target with. This skill still needs you to control yourself but it is not nearly as complicated as the pulse ray.   Attack magic seems like it could be most helpful in me getting my memories back but the difficulty level could be a problem. Not to mention I did not really know any hand to hand combat. I wanted to try a bit of them though. I opened my door and looked down the hallway. It did not appear that Zachariah was awake yet.    I headed outside and noticed two rabbit pelts sitting beside the cottage. I looked at my clothes. The bottom of my dress was in tatters after I had ripped it. I picked up the pelts, thinking I really could use new clothes. A shirt and shorts would be useful if I wanted to train in combat. As if in response to my wish the pelts started to transform before my eyes. The first turned into little black shorts and the second turned into yellow midriff tank top. These were perfect! I looked around for a second to make sure the coast was clear. I removed my dress and put the shorts and tank top on. So much more comfortable! This would be so much easier to practice in. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail before walking to the edge of the forest.   Time to test out what I had read. Ok, I just had to clear my mind and focus. I looked at a tall tree for my target. I just needed to blast it with a pulse ray now. Concept seemed simple enough. Steady my breathing, control my emotions, and ...fire! I waited for a second and nothing happened. Alright, maybe try again. Breath, emotions, and go! Nothing. Why was it not working? I was getting frustrated. Come on Analise! You can do this, I told myself. It still was not working. If I could not get this down how was I ever going to get my memories back. Tears of frustration started down my face. My frustration turned to anger. I would not even be in the situation if it were not for Zachariah. All he had to do is say no to the king. He did not have to take my memories but he chose to anyways. I could feel power start to accumulate inside me and I tried direct it at the tree once more.   “What are you doing?” I heard Zachariah’s voice behind me.   I turned to look at him. My power began surging out of control and I could feel it leave my body. A pulse ray came out in Zachariah’s direction, he tried to dodge it but it was too late. The ray had caught his arm and sliced it up pretty badly. He held onto it, agony crossing his face. He screamed out in pain. What had I done? I did not mean to hurt him. I rushed over to where he sat on the ground clenching his arm. There were several lacerations covering his arm.   “I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”   I ran inside to get something to put the pressure on his wounds.   “I don’t know what to do! You are losing too much blood! I said panicking.   “Heal me, you have to heal me.”   The book said that was an advanced level spell. There’s no way I could do that, but he was going to die if I did not try. He was losing too much blood, there was no way I did not hit an artery. I tried to calm down and breathe but the severity of the situation was stressing me out.    “Kiss me,” Zachariah said.   “What? Right now? Are you serious?   “Kiss me damnit! Before I die!”   I kissed him. My head was swirling but then a wave of calm came over me. I put my hands over his arm and one by one I started to seal up his wounds. I let out a sigh after I was done. He would be safe now. He looked a little worse for wear, at least he was not dead.   “How do you feel?”    “Like I just got hit by a f*****g pulse ray.”   “I am so sorry. I did not mean to hit you. I just lost control of it.”   “You cannot use attack magic without proper tracing you i***t!”   That was the last thing he said before passing out. The pain from before had finally caught up with him and the adrenaline had worn off. I sat by him for a second to get a grip on myself. Everything was ok now, I breathed, trying to calm down. I stood up and began levitating Zachariah back into the house and laid him down in his bed. I was nervous, afraid my work was only temporary. I climbed into bed with and laid my head down on his chest. I listened to the sound of his heart beating and his lungs filling with air. A comforting feeling, knowing he was alive, and well for now. I began feeling drowsy and fell asleep right there.
