She watched helplessly as her fingers grew holographic fins. Air escaped her mouth as she yelled under the water, her feet breaking and her legs knitting together.
What should she do? She didn’t know. She couldn’t get back out of the water without everyone seeing and she couldn’t stay here without everyone seeing. She was trapped. She suddenly realized the contestants were coming back for their second lap and she swam to the bottom of the pool trying to get away from them. Each contestant was in their own lane, but she watched as one by one they noticed her. Some of them slowed to try and figure out what they were seeing, others just ignored her and kept going.
She crawled backwards on the bottom of the pool as their eyes dug into her. What has she done? How did she miss the saltwater?
