CHAPTER-FOUR:CHEESE BOARD MOVES

Charles Pov I sipped the wine calmly, listening to the arguments going on around me. “Meeting adjourned” I said, the entire hall froze, one by one they all stood and practically ran off. “You really need to stop scaring off our executives after every meeting like that” Aiden Said, his face frustrated. I scoffed, “they won't be scared if they'd just done the right thing” “By right thing, you mean to meet your impossibly high standard, take a chill pill man” “What do you want Aiden?” I pinched my brows, best friend or not, his honesty was beginning to get on my nerves now. “She rejected you, didn't she?” He looked at me questioningly. “She'll be back” I said with certainty. “Damnnn, a woman rejected a whole Charles Goodluck” he chuckled, “as much as you had it coming, I would have loved to see your face when she did.” “If you're here to mock me, the door’s that way,” I motioned. “Oh no” he let out a short laugh, “what kind of best friend will I be if I watch you lose everything you've worked for.” “Go straight to the point Aiden” I said tiredly, in no mood to deal with his nonsense. “Throwing a marriage agreement to someone that barely knows you is not how to go about these things. Did Lara completely break your sense of romance?” he sighed in disappointment. I walked out ignoring him, “hey, wait up” he chased after me, “not like I'm the one at risk of loosing everything I've worked of for,” he teased I shot him a glare settling into my chair, “your point?” “I have a question first. Why her?” “Cause she's convenient” I forced out. “It feels more like revenge than convenience,” he muttered under his breath “you know she's not her right?” He continued. “Aiden” I warned, “When I suggested finding someone to marry, it didn't include a revenge plan on an innocent woman.” He continued, “Your Grandfather's Lawyer will sniff something fishy and you can kiss everything goodbye.” “I don't need his property, I have mine” I shrugged. “And yet, here you are, vying for it.” He eyed me “Not needing it doesn't mean I'll let it fall into ruin, in the hands of the wrong people” the lie left my lips smoothly Aiden gave me a knowing look, “if I didn't know any better I would have thought you actually cared” “Drop it Aiden” I snapped, his words reminded me of Grandfather. Of course, leave it to the old man to know exactly how to get me in peril, he knew I would never give a bat s**t about the outcome of the company or whose hands it fell into. And he decided to add the one thing or rather person I cared about in his will. “Real smooth old man, still a torn in my flesh even from the grave” “Well blood recognizes blood” Aiden shrugged, “Whatever, I'll find a way out of this. But for now I've got a wedding to plan” “Sigh. Stubborn as ever. I'll drop it for now. But just know we're not done” he threatened I rolled my eyes, he always has a tendency for drama, it was a pity he didn't study theatre arts. He'd have excelled at it over business. “What's the next plan now? You need a bride” he asked, the concern obvious in his face I twirled the cup in my hand, “I have a bride” “She already rejected you” he pointed out flatly “She'll be back” I shrugged “You sound so sure” I smiled, I didn't need to say more. Knock. “Enter” “Boss, you need to see this” Dale, rushed in, his voice a bit panicky, “he handed me the tablet in his hands” “What's that?” Aiden asked, I watched the news before me silently, my fingers twitched, my jaw tightened “What's going on, give me that” Aiden took the tab from my hand, going through it. “How's this possible?” He stuttered out, “how the hell has that bastard Cassian managed to get his hands on every one of our projects” he cursed, pacing around. “Stop pacing, I'll get a f*****g migraine” “Sure, tell that bastard Cassian to keep his sticky fingers off our projects and maybe I will” he spat, but stopped. “Boss, what should we do now? We definitely can't launch the same product as them, we'll be accused of copying them,” Aiden asked, worried. I shut my eyes, “Tell the research department to get me a better product in three weeks, the launch will proceed as planned.” He hesitated, “It took them months to come up with the last one.” “Good. More reasons to do something better in three weeks. Dismissed” I waved him off. “What are we going to do about him?” he pressed. “I'll handle Cassian, the time isn't ripe now. Go home Aiden” I ordered, tired of dealing with him. “But….” “Don't push it” I cut him off “Fine, but sooner than later, we've got to clip Cassian's wings,” he muttered before leaving. I rested lazily on my chair, a soft rare smile on my lips “Interesting,” I said. My eyes fell lazily at a portrait, lying not too far from where I was. “Gotcha,” I whispered.
