Alpha's Mate

I was pouring red wine into my wine glass when the young warrior graduates came and toasted me. “Anna, you look so beautiful today.” “Yes, your gown is so beautiful and elegant. You look like a movie star!” “Timmy likes you so much and will be so surprised when he sees it!” I smiled, clinked glasses with them, and thanked them for their compliments. I was proud of their achievements and how much they had grown over the training. Today was the annual graduation party of our Colley Pack. These werewolf warriors who had gone through layers of intensive screening and training were finally able to have their own status and objectives. They would dedicate their life’s work to the Colley Pack, and head to the battlefield to prove their worth. I, Anna Cole, who had been a Beta instructor for three consecutive years, wished them well. The other instructor they referred to, Timmy, was also an excellent Beta instructor like me. His strength was comparable to some Alphas. I love him, admire him, and we had grown up together since we were pups. Together, we dedicated our lives to serving the noble Alpha family. We undoubtedly love each other throughout the years. Although my mate had not revealed himself, I firmly believed that Timmy was my mate. I admitted that my dressing tonight was intentional. I wanted to tell Timmy on such a happy night that I loved him and would like to be his companion for the rest of my life. I downed a glass of mellow red wine. The alcohol got to me and I began to feel high. I swayed to the music and the cheers of the young warriors. I was going to ask Timmy to marry me. There was a bonfire outside the banquet hall. Graduands and guests gathered around to share their stories. I did not see Timmy in the crowd, so I asked around and learned that Timmy had just gone to the nearby lake. That was the place where we got engaged. I was overjoyed and could not wait to walk to the lake. I began to grin and giggle like a little girl as my cheeks felt hot. I’m not sure if my cheeks were flushed because of the wine or I was blushing so much. I think it must look very red now. This was where I first stole a kiss from Timmy. I was barely able to contain my excitement. My wolf, Lyra, chuckled and said: Anna, I wish you all the happiness in this world! Me: Thank you, Lyra, I love Timmy. I will be very happy with him. I soon saw a sturdy figure standing by the lake. I immediately recognized it to be Timmy and quickened my footsteps toward him. Just as I was about to reach him, another beautiful figure came out from the shadows and embraced him. I froze in disbelief for a moment and then I heard the woman’s delicate voice. “Timmy, honey, you’re early. You must have missed me, right?” “Of course! I can’t help thinking about you every second when I’m in the Colley Pack. If it’s possible, I’d abandon everything here and go back to the Red Moon Pack with you.” I was so shocked that I immediately dodged and hid behind a large tree. I could not believe what I had just heard and seen. How could Timmy be having an affair with a woman from the Red Moon Pack? He must be aware that the Red Moon Pack had their eyes set on us for quite a while. They had been causing trouble at the territorial border and trying to start a war between the two Packs. Now that the dispute was at its height and with our Alpha Wayne being seriously injured in a recent confrontation, his behavior was totally unforgivable! In between my thoughts, the woman continued to giggle and said, “Timmy, you are an excellent Beta of the Colley Pack. However, you have an Alpha that you must serve. Aren’t you being a traitor for saying that? Aren’t you afraid of what they might do to you?” Timmy snorted coldly and replied, “Mary, I’ve had enough of being told what to do. Honestly, my strength is comparable to those Alphas and I had gone to war for many years. My acumen of battle is much higher than theirs. I already anticipated that you guys would launch. That was why I deliberately used Anna to lure Alpha Wayne into the trap. You need not worry about me.” The woman exclaimed in surprise, “Oh? Timmy, if you come back with me, I promise that you’ll be highly regarded by the Red Moon Pack. Then, I won’t have to share you with that stupid Anna and sneak around just to see you.” “Of course!” Timmy snickered and lowered his head to kiss her. Soon, they were patting each other heavily and their moans of pleasure could be heard. I shuddered as a chill ran down my spine and it felt as though I had fallen into a deep icy chasm. At the same time, I realized that Timmy was indeed not my mate! Somehow his betrayal did not make me feel any pain. I listened to that shameless moans and finally could not hold back my anger and rushed over to him. “Timmy, do you know what you are doing?” My sudden appearance caught both of them off guard and they were startled. Timmy soon got a good look at my face and his tensed nerves relaxed. “Oh, it’s my dear Anna.” He laughed sinisterly as if he no longer bothered to put up an act. He then said with utter contempt and disgust, “It’s just as well that you saw and heard it. It saves me from having to explain everything to you. I’ve long been tired of everything here. You stupid minions are willing to give your lives to protect someone just because of their family? I’m different. I want much more than that!” He then suddenly grabbed my neck and I could feel his power squeezing the life out of me. I almost suffocated to death. I could not believe that this was the man I had loved for so many years. How could he bear to kill me? “Timmy, you... you still have a chance to make it all right. I will not tell Wayne what I saw... just come back with me...” He just stared at me indifferently with a frosty glare that I had never seen before. It looked like I was about to become the first sacrifice of his mutiny. “Anna, thank you for always thinking for me but I’m sorry, I’ve never loved you. Mary is my true mate. She can purify my bloodline and make me a powerful Alpha! I am willing to do anything for this, including killing you!” I tried to resist, but Mary quickly grabbed my arms and legs. This damned evening gown also restricted my movements. Lyra: Anna, set me free! I sense Timmy’s wolf, Spike. It is ruthless and we will die here if you hesitate! Me: But I can’t move... Lyra! Help me! Just as Timmy sneered and was about to deal me a fatal blow, shouts were coming from behind us. It was the young warriors. They called out my name and teased me about wanting to witness the moment Timmy proposed to me. Oh, the cruel irony. Timmy froze and probably realized that his opportunity to kill me had passed. He cursed and dashed into the darkness with Mary. I fell heavily to the ground and struggled to gasp for air. “Anna! We finally found you!” They rushed over when they saw me on all fours on the ground and asked with great concern as to what had happened. When I thought of Timmy’s expression and the memories that we had, I sadly realized that I had not given up on him. “It’s okay... I’m fine.” I struggled to my feet with their help and hid my emotions. “Someone from the Red Moon Pack sneaked up on me and we exchanged blows. It was a good thing that you guys got here in time. He was startled and escaped into the woods.” I calmed everyone down and hurried back to my room. I stood in front of the mirror and looked at my wretched self. I was exhausted. I did not know if Timmy could still be saved but I wanted to get him back, for myself and for the entire Colley Pack. Besides, I did not believe that there could be a process to “purify one’s bloodline”. How could a person born as a Beta become an Alpha? The next day, someone from the Pack noticed that Timmy was missing. Everyone thought that Timmy had been ambushed by the Red Moon Pack, so they rallied for a fight to the bitter end. Before we mobilized for the fight, the Red Moon Pack had already begun their attacks at the border. The war began. I led the young warriors to the battlefield. When I saw Timmy standing in the opposite camp, I finally realized it was pointless having him back. “Timmy, I will fight for the Colley Pack! I will be merciless!” I took the form of a wolf, bared my fangs, and lunged at the man I once loved. I headed straight for his jugular.
