It was a gruesome battlefield with blood splattered all over and severed limbs.
The Red Moon Pack was very cunning and ruthless. They focused their attacks on the new graduates and avoided experienced warriors like me. I could not bear to see the young warriors die and tried my best to intercept the attacks on them. I could only try my best to help them instead of focusing on my targets. The fight quickly became dominated by the Red Moon Pack. The reason they were able to pinpoint each and every one of the young warriors must be from the information that Timmy had provided!
“Wayne, we must find a way to withdraw those young warriors or there will not be anyone for the future fights.”
Alpha Wayne looked at me with bloodshot eyes after snapping the neck of an enemy. “Anna, I order you to catch that traitor, Timmy! I will not spare him!”
Upon receiving my orders, I leaped onto a tree and found Timmy in the chaos. He was fighting a young female warrior who complimented how beautiful I was last night. I rushed forward but before I could get there, he mercilessly bit off the girl’s hands.
“No!” I roared, became overwhelmed with rage, and the world before me took on a blood-red hue.
Lyra: Timmy is crazy... he’s crazy! Those poor young warriors... Anna, we mustn’t spare him!
Me: I won’t!
Lyra: Anna you have to be careful! I can already feel Spike stirring. It seems more powerful than before!
I lunged at him and tumbled onto the ground with him. I got up as fast as I could and tried to pin him down on the ground. However, I completely underestimated Timmy’s strength and easily he threw me toward a large tree.
My back impacted hard against the tree trunk and I instantly felt the pungent taste of blood in my mouth.
“Timmy, how did you? You...”
“I told you that Mary can purify my bloodline. Now, I am no longer the Beta who is at others’ mercy. I’m an Alpha that no one can defeat!”
He raised his arms and howled, shaking the leaves overhead. I was amazed beyond words that the aura emanating from Timmy was indeed the energy that only a powerful Alpha had. How was this possible? Just because Mary was his mate? How was he able to purify his bloodline?
However, before answering my question, he arched his back, bared his fangs, and lunged for the kill!
“Anna!!!” The young female warrior who just had her hands bitten off lunged in front of me in the nick of time.
Timmy tore her body apart and flung her to the ground like a piece of ragdoll. Fresh blood soaked the ground in a last declaration of her existence.
I heard Lyra crying within me.
Lyra emerged from my body and we howled as we mourned the violent death of a young warrior.
Grief-stricken, we rushed over to the lifeless body. The beautiful and captivating eyes turned dull as the last traces of life seeped out of her. I could see the final fear in her eyes as death claimed her soul. I could not believe that just a few days ago, Timmy and I had trained her together. Now, she was killed by the very instructor who had trained her.
Timmy, I will never forgive you!
Lyra placed the lifeless body gently down and we rushed in unison toward Timmy. However, we obviously overestimated ourselves. We were never his match even before his current transformation. With one blow, I could feel my internal organs shutting down. I was knocked over the cliff but managed to grab an exposed root. Timmy walked slowly over and looked down with disdain. “Goodbye, Anna, I’ll remember how you died.”
He swiped my hand and dislodged me from the cliff.
I fell down and my body slammed wildly against the rocks and finally fell into the rushing river. Everything went dark.
I opened my eyes again and found myself lying in Colley Pack’s training field. I sat up with difficulty and vomited a mouthful of blood. I looked around and saw the grounds littered with broken lifeless bodies.
Someone saw me wake up and quickly gave me some water to drink. He then told me that the newly graduated group of young warriors was almost completely annihilated.
I was wracked with guilt and grief like I had never felt before. I felt both sorry for them and equally embarrassed that if I had better trained them, perhaps they would still be alive.
At this time Wayne staggered toward me, I could see that he was also badly injured. He was already injured when Timmy sold him out and went into battle before he recovered. He was now lucky to be alive.
“Anna, I have bad news for you. Please brace yourself.” Wayne preempted me but with a sea of corpses around me, I did not think that there would be anything else that could be worse than this.
Wayne patted my shoulder and said, “Your parents were killed in this fight. From what the other warriors said, they were killed by Timmy. It appeared that he had specifically targeted them. We were all careless and underestimated him. I have no clue what Timmy had done to become so powerful. He was also very familiar with our Pack. Our tactics, strategies, and warrior disposition... he specifically targeted our weakness. We lost a lot in this fight.”
I felt numb as I heard the news. It was as if I was just an empty shell.
My parents were dead, killed by none other than Timmy.
I stood up and asked through gritted teeth, “How many of us remain?”
Wayne said softly, “Not many. Timmy must know that we are severely weakened now. If he convinces them to strike again, we are almost doomed to be wiped out. We must quickly find an ally or the Colley Pack will seize to exist and they will take over our land that our clan had lived for centuries.”
I was stunned. This was where I had grown up and I could not allow it to be pillaged and turned into a sea of misery.
“Wayne, what do we do? What can I do for the Pack?”
Wayne looked at me for a long time and seemed to have made up his mind about something. His gaze deepened and said, “Anna, I need you to ask for Tarlow Pack’s help. Their leader, Alpha Daimon Roths has the power that can suppress the Red Moon Pack. Our Colley Pack has the perfect training system and I heard that he always wanted it. Let’s give it to him in exchange for his protection. Now we can only rely on him.”
My heart sank when I heard this. Lyra felt the same way.
Lyra: I sensed that Wayne’s wolf is just as weak as he is right now. They must be badly injured, Anna, Wayne must really be desperate for him to seek Tarlow Pack’s help.
The Tarlow Pack had always been known for invading other Packs. Their leader, Alpha Daimon, was a temperamental person and was known for his cruelty. The annexed Packs were frequently tormented by him. Those captured wolves became his playthings. If we form an alliance with the Tarlow Pack, thereby giving him assess to our secrets, we would have a fate worse than death if he decided to turn on us.
“Wayne, do we really have to do this? Alpha Daimon is an untrustworthy ally. He will turn his fangs on us when he gets the opportunity to.”
“That’s still better than dying at the hands of Timmy and the Red Moon Pack, right?” Wayne smiled helplessly. “Anna, we don’t have a choice. It’s better to take our chances with a tyrant than to be killed by that traitor.”
I knew that Wayne had a point. The only thing left to do right now was to negotiate with Tarlow Pack.
“Okay, Wayne, I will go to Tarlow Pack and ask for their help. I’m counting on you to take care of my parents’ burial. I love the Colley Pack, Wayne. I have so much love for this place.”
“I always knew that. Anna, good luck.”
