CHAPTER ONE.
"You can't do this again, you're going to start a war!" I pleaded with my father, who was talking about another takeover.
"Calm down Aira, it's what's best for our pack. We will be the biggest pack on the east side of the border." My mother replied with a grin that reached ear to ear.
"So, what? What's to make them stay loyal after you annihilate all their family and friends?"
"Nonesense Aira, We took over the 'crystal moon' pack and there have been no issues. What are they going to do?" My dad scoffed.
"This is good for us, for our pack, we can become the greatest and the strongest pack in all the land."
"And what if they don't want to join your pack? What if every single one of them refuses? You'll have massacred them all and have gained nothing, you'll have wiped out an entire pack for nothing, for no reason, and have nothing to show for it. If that happens, what's to stop the nearby packs from forming an alliance and seeking revenge on you, or even trying to take over your pack to stop you?"
"Oh, Aira shut up. I don't want to hear you insistent whining anymore, I am the Alpha of this pack and this is what your mother and I have decided to do. It's worked for us before and it will work for us again. We will do what we see fit." My dad scorned.
"Why can't you see that this is WRONG, you can't just keep doing this and having no repercussions, you're going to make other packs mad and we are all going to pay for it just because you are both power hungry!"
"AIRA, GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!" My dad screamed in his Alpha tone.
Without so much as a warning, I was already heading out of his office door and closing it behind me. I hated them. They were so power hungry, they were blind to reason or consequences, they would get us all killed in their despicable ways.
I was furious. I didn't want them to do this again. The first time I lost the love of my life, they tore lives apart and I could only do one thing: tell my Uncle Max, I could rely on my Uncle Max for anything.
My Uncle Max was an Alpha of a neighboring pack, he was an excellent leader and would never approve of something so vile.
When they decided to do their first takeover, my Uncle was the only person I could speak to for years. They shattered my heart that day, but they didn't care. They destroyed the 'Crystal moon' pack with no hesitation just because they refused to merge. My parents were bestfriends with The Luna and Alpha of that pack, the parents of my best friend, whom I am sure I would have been mated with.
I don't know how they sleep at night. They murdered their best friends and massacred ninety percent of their pack. A handful of their pack members joined this pack. I ran away and lived with my Uncle for a few months. They were the best months of my life.
I walked straight to my room and decided I would alert Uncle Max immediately. A few hours later, he arrived and summoned me to the foyer. As I ran down the stairs to give him a great big hug, I noticed my parents furiously standing next to him. My dad didn't say anything. He could barely look at me as he walked into the meeting room and took his seat at the head of the table. My mother followed him and sat on the seat to his right, Uncle Max sat at his left and I sat where I usually sat at the other end of the table, directly facing my father's cold gaze.
"So you decided to tell Max about our takeover?" My mother's death glare caught my eye as she questioned me, making me feel incredibly uncomfortable.
"You won't listen to reason" I replied to her, my eyes connecting to her cold orbs.
"Who do you think you are? Aira, seriously? You're a child, you do not decide who listens to reason and who doesn't honestly, who do you think you are?" My mother scoffed.
"I don't want you to destroy another pack again, for no reason"! I almost shouted at my mother.
"Who do you think you're talking to?" My dad asked in a very deep, quiet voice that sent chills down my spine.
"You don't ever speak to your mother that way. What did you expect from this? That Max comes here and tells us not to do it and we won't? I am the Alpha of this pack, not your Uncle. He has no right here. You need to remember that you're going to be Alpha of this pack one day when I am gone, and you need to start acting like it, more like me, because, unfortunately, for us, you don't have any siblings who could do a better job!"
"I'd never be an Alpha like you!" I spat towards my father, who grew incredibly angry, his face was increasingly red.
"AIRA-" He started but was swiftly interrupted.
"Right, I think that is enough. I think you're more angry that she's asked me to come here rather than the circumstances as to why I am actually here." My Uncle Max started.
"Aira has a point, you can't do this takeover, it's going to cost more than its worth and it is just so...Unethical" he explained.
"It has nothing to do with you Max, Aira has betrayed our trust, inviting you here and involving you in our business. We have already made our decision", my mother explained calmly, and left me in shock.
"It doesn't matter who asked me here, the fact is I am here and we are going to talk about it. I can personally guarantee if you go through with this takeover, there will be a war", Uncle Max stated calmly.
"There will not be a war! Who is going to start a war with us? We are the most feared pack in this kingdom and after this takeover we will be the largest. No Alpha in his right mind will wager a war with us! This is a ridiculous assumption based on the opinion of a little girl!" My father yelled and aimed his gaze towards me.
"I will", My Uncle Max said, and the room immediately fell silent as everyone turned their gaze towards him.
At this point, my jaw hit the floor and I couldn't help but admire my Uncle Max. He was doing what no one else would dare to do. He had the power to go through with his threat and I was hoping my parents realised this and snapped out of it.
"YOU DARE TO THREATEN WAR?!" My mother stood up and screamed across the table.
My Uncle Max calmly released a sigh, looked her deep in the eyes and said "Yes".
My father's fist struck the table violently, and he raised his body from his chair and to his feet. "You really want to do this? Over a pack you don't even know? You'd go to war with your own sister?"
"I will, if I have to. If it will stop you, then I will. What you are planning to do is disgusting and vile, and a good Alpha would never takeover another pack for the sake of it. I think the power has gone to your head and if you go through with this, I will alert the other packs of it and I will go to war with you. I want to know what you are going to do by the end of the day. If I don't hear from you, I will assume you're going to go through with it and I will prepare to declare war. I am only giving you this one warning and I mean it with every part of me. If you do this, I will come for you and only you. My pack will not hurt your pack, they will only hunt the pair of you and I will make sure everybody knows it, and when they betray you, which they will, they can then be free to decide where they want to be rather than being forced into this pathetic pack by their god-awful leaders! You have until the end of the day". My Uncle calmly stood up, threw me a wink and walked out of the meeting room.
The room fell silent, my parents were speechless, they only shared baffled looks and when it appeared they were going to say something, they stopped and carried on looking confused. I took this chance and left to go to my room. I was incredibly impressed with my Uncle and I admired him even more. I was gobsmacked but I couldn't stop smiling. Once again, my Uncle had my back. I went to sleep that night wishing that it was him I lived with in his pack and he was my Alpha.
My parents repulsed me, they were evil on a whole other level.
*****
Several hours into my sleep, I heard crackling and I woke up sweating. It was suddenly hot and very stuffy, my chest felt compressed and I struggled for fresh air. Every time I took a breath I felt worse, like I needed to take a deeper breath, like I couldn't fill my lungs enough. I got out of bed and noticed the floor was hot. I walked to my bedroom door and when I opened it, I could smell it; smoke.
I ran down the hall to my parents' room and everything around was glowing a dark orange colour.
I immediately panicked and tried to open their bedroom door. I banged hard on the door but no one answered. I grabbed the handle but it was too hot to touch. I kicked and kicked and kicked to try and get it to open, but it was stuck. The fire grew more wild around me but I couldn't just leave them there. I kicked and kicked until I heard my parents' screaming. They screamed until they coughed and it only made me want to open the door more.
I ran into the door with my shoulder. It only made a small hole. I grabbed the handle, ignoring the burning sensation that tingled in my hand, and tried to twist it open. It was no use, as always it was locked.
I struggled for breath again as I ran into the door with my shoulder, making the hole become bigger. I could still hear them screaming on the other side of the door and I kept running at the door slowly making the hole bigger, but I was running out of energy.
The hole eventually became big enough for me to look through, but when I looked through it, they were laid there in their bed silently. I could still make out their distorted burned faces...They were dead and I couldn't save them. My vision became blurred with the tears that filled my eyes, wails left my throat that now felt swollen. The fire had crept it's way up the stairs by now. I was surrounded by it, the smoke was black but the fire was a bright orange and every way out was covered in spitting flames.
I caught a glimpse of the window that was at the end of the hallway and decided if it was the window or the fire. I had to run through the burning flames to reach the window and I eventually did. I managed to break the window and jump out of it.
