The Vampire Queen's Pet
Chapter 32
Ysabella's point of view
Three weeks have passed, and Dylan is settling into school, although he's still not happy about it. He knows if he wants to stay with Jax at the Crypt, then he has to attend school.
I'm having the time of my life; I love being at the house with Jax and Dylan. My favourite place is sitting in the kitchen overlooking the gardens. I've also found a love for cooking, remembering the meals mum used to cook for me when I was a child.
Good old fashioned food, but then again, it was over forty years ago.
Jax often invites Stan and his wife over along with Bear. Of course, in the past couple of weeks, I've also become really good friends with Stan's wife, Linda. It's good to have some female company in my life. After being separated from my mum and kept confined to the Palace I've never really had any friends that I could call my own, I talked to a few of the Palace staff, but they were too scared of the King to make friends with me.
Tonight we have had all of the gang over for dinner, and it's weird how something so ordinary can feel so strange to me; sitting around a table eating and chatting with friends is something I never thought that I would be doing.
Tonight we are celebrating as Linda and Stan have just told us that they are expecting their first child. Even though I can't help that slight twinge of jealousy, I am happy for them both; they will be such fabulous parents.
I notice Jax's eyes on me; he knows how much I would like a child of my own one day; we haven't been taking any precautions since the high Witch reversed the spell; maybe one day we will be blessed with a child of our own.
Later on, as we wave our friends off, Jax pulls me into his arms as he asks me.
"Are you okay, baby?"
I sigh as I reply.
"I'm good; they will be amazing parents."
He nods his head as he says.
"Yeah, they will. Just like you will be an amazing mother to our children."
Dylan excuses himself before disappearing upstairs; I'm sure he's feeling a little awkward no twelve years old wants to hear about babies.
I spend the night in Jax's arms, the only place in the world that's ever felt like home; Jax is always the first up in this household, followed by myself and Lastly Dylan, the typical twelve year old who doesn't want to get up in a morning, especially when it's a school morning.
Jax kisses me before he heads off to the Crypt; I finally get Dylan up after threatening to pour a bucket of water over his head before I make him breakfast as he gets ready for school.
My relationship with Dylan is amazing now; he's like a little brother to me; he is even starting to ask me for advice on girls; it's funny how situations change.
Once he's finished eating we are ready for the drive to school, I drop him off outside the front gate to the usual cheers of wolf whistles, as Dylan's friends all shout out how hot his sister is, I blush whilst Dylan laughs I think he enjoys the popularity that comes with having a hot sister. Jax, on the other hand, isn't so keen, especially when the house is full of teenage boys wanting to perve at Dylan's older sister every night.
After I drop Dylan off, I head to the Crypt to meet Jax and the guys. Apart from Stella, I always feel comfortable here; I think it's because most of the guys are scared of Jax. Or because respect is something that's taught religiously at the Crypt.
I've been here a couple of hours helping Jax get his paperwork in order when I get a phone call from Dylan's school.
I raise my eyebrows as my phone rings as I say.
"It's Dylan's school."
Answering the phone as Jax listens in on the conversation.
"Hello," I say.
"Hi, is that Ysabella, Preston?" They ask me as I reply.
"Yeah, is Dylan Okay."
"Dylan is being suspended for fighting in school, he knocked another child unconscious today, and I will not have this behaviour in my school; please collect him immediately whilst we open a report."
"Oh, yes, I'll come right away."
And there was me telling you what a good boy Dylan is. I end the call as Jax says.
"I'm coming with you; I need to know what's been going on.".
We head back into school together to pick Dylan up, heading into the headmaster's office first."
The headmaster shakes both of our hands as we walk in the door.
"I'm sorry to have to call you both in like this, but it's the school's protocol to run an investigation, especially when children are injured on school grounds. I've spoken to Dylan this morning, and the girl that it involves backs Dylan's story up, but I'm sure you understand we still have to have a full investigation."
We both nod our head before Jax asks.
"Could you please tell us what happened?"
The headteacher sighs,
"It seems as though a group of boys have been causing trouble for a girl in Dylan's class."
"You mean bullying," I ask.
The headteacher nods his head.
"It seems that way; this morning, things were taken too far when one of these boys ripped the girl's skirt from her whilst the rest of them surrounded her."
I gasp before he carries on.
"Dylan split them up, knocking one of the boys unconscious and assaulting two others whilst helping the girl to cover herself up."
Jax slams his hand on the table as he says.
"I will not punish Dylan for what he has done; if he wasn't there, how far would these boys have taken it? I don't think it's Dylan that should be being punished."
The headmaster jumps as Jax's fist hits the table before he says.
"I agree with you; all of the boys have been suspended whilst an investigation is run, and I honour Dylan's bravery, but I cannot condone violence on school grounds; the investigation will run its course, and the boys involved will be permanently suspended if Dylan's story is true."
We thank the headteacher before heading to the school office to pick Dylan up; he looks at us with wide worried eyes and a very painfully looking split lip. I pull him into my arms as I say.
"It's okay, Dylan, we don't blame you."
Jax is quiet on the way home; I know it's not because he is annoyed at Dylan's behaviour; I think it's more because of the way the King treated me, of how he had to watch whilst the monster forced himself on me.
These are painful memories for him, and I'm sure he is thinking if Dylan hadn't stood up to these bullies today, then things could have turned out very differently for this girl.
Dylan is just like Jax, only Jax couldn't help me that day, and that will forever haunt him.
