LISA KENNETH
The moment she closed the door to Mr. Williams office, Lisa quickly let go of the breath that she had been holding.
Instinctively, she bit tongue, and chastised herself for delivering the information that made her boss angry.
It really was not her fault that she had to be the one to deliver such news to him. It was a part of her job she disliked so much.
She sometimes wished she could just withhold certain information that could be provoking like the one she just delivered, but it was not her place to choose which ones are of most importance.
In retrospect, she just prepared her mind for any kind of reaction such kind of messages would elicit, and leave him to deal with it.
The sanctuary of her office beckoned to her with a magnetic pull she couldn’t resist, so she hurriedly made her way towards it, ready to be enveloped in it’s warmth.
Lisa’s office, on the far end of the corridor was spacious, and tastefully decorated, with beautiful artworks lining the walls in sharp contrast to the white paint, but blended in perfectly to give this room a feeling of home and comfort.
The office has been her personal space for years now, and she had come to love it with all her heart.
She had filled it up with little things that mattered to her over time, like the framed photograph of her very large extended family on her table, the awards of merit she had received, her favorite books filled the small shelf in the corner of the room, and the tiny flower plants on the window sill.
Lisa smiled as pride welled up in heart at everything she had endured to get to this point; the hard work, the consistency, the years of efforts that had paid off and paved way for her success and numerous achievement working here, except the pain that still lingered in her heart.
Working at this firm has been the greatest experience, especially with a boss as hot as hers, she mused.
At first she found it very difficult to gather her thoughts whenever she was around him. She felt clumsy and out of place, awkward and jittery, but with time and the ease with which he encouraged her to be herself she had found her confidence and never faltered ever since.
Except her heart and stomach, which was filled with dancing butterflies every time he came around her or she sensed his presence, like earlier that morning.
As the only child of her parents, she always longed to have siblings and little ones to play with, and share everything but she never had that. Although, she had the blessing of a large extended family filled with numerous cousins.
Their get together was always a heartwarming experience to look forward to, and she could feel herself smiling at the fond memories.
A strong wave of sadness suddenly filled her at the same moment reminding her of the most precious thing she had lost.
How could life be so cruel to her by stealing away the only thing that mattered the most in her life.
Taking this Job gave her a life a purpose, and ever since, the love and acceptance she has received and shared with everyone here, made it the best decision of her life since the accident.
She might have survived that day, but the pain and agony that always comes with the memories made life meaningless to her at times.
It often felt like a part of her died that day that will never come back to life.
The hurt still remained fresh in her mind every day, but she had vowed not to entertain it or allow it steal away her happiness.
There were other options available and she was very happy Stephen was on the same page with her.
Drifting away for a second, she thought about Stephen, and how he had come to be an important aspect of her life.
They met at a kids fair two years ago at the amusement park where she had taken her little cousins for the weekend to spend time away from their parents, who where greatly overjoyed at any opportunity to spend quality time together as a couple without the kids hovering around.
He had been dragged there by his very bossy niece who insisted that she wanted to spend with her favorite uncle.
He actually asked for her help when he found out that he didn’t know the first thing about braiding pigtails.
They hit it off from there, and found themselves comfortable with each other, enough to exchange numbers and made plans to have lunch or dinner together on a later date.
Speaking about dinners, something clicked in Lisa’s mind, and I recalled she had forgotten to inform Mr. Williams about his dinner plans with his sister Rachael later that evening.
Although she wasn’t sure if she should also add the note of warning attached to it, but Lisa knew for sure she would be skinned alive, if Mr. Williams stood his sister up at up at the restaurant.
She was already in Rachael’s black book as she called it, which is the place where all whom she has found guilty of a crime against her were added, even potential ones like her.
It was silly to be scrambling about because of a kid, really, but Rachael knew she was very fond of her, and wouldn’t disappoint her, black book or not.
She quickly added it to her notes, as one of the things to remind the CEO about when she informed him about lunch.
Looking around she found the strength needed to carry on with her day, and got down to business.
It was a new day, and usually it meant having loads of left over work piled up during the weekend to sort through, and attend to.
Barely had she thought about this, and taken her seat when the first call came through.
Lisa rolled her eyes and sighed, before picking up the receiver to get to work.
“Hello, Good morning, you have reached Williams Knox office, how may I help you”, Lisa spoke into the receiver, and her day began.
