Keira's POV My hand was throbbing but I didn't care about that right then. I kept my grip firm and wouldn't let go. "Kaelan," I said, keeping my voice steady even though blood was running between my fingers. "Look at me." He didn't respond at first. His eyes were locked on his father, pupils dilated while breathing harsh and uneven. "Kaelan," I said louder. "You're hurting me. Please." That got through. His eyes shifted to my hand wrapped around the blade. The wildness in them faded, replaced by something that looked like horror. He dropped the knife immediately.
