The Party

Chapter 15: /-Skylar’s POV-/ We stood there for what felt like forever, just staring at each other. My heart was beating so fast I was sure he could hear it. His eyes moved up and down my body, taking in my red dress, and I saw something flash in them. Something dark and intense that made my stomach flip. “Where are you going?” he asked, and his voice was stern. Cold, even. Like he was angry about something. I felt my back straighten. Why did he sound so upset? And why did he think he had the right to ask me where I was going? I flipped my hair over my shoulder and raised one eyebrow at him. I wanted to look challenging, like I didn’t care about his bad mood. “It’s none of your business, Alpha,” I said, putting extra emphasis on his title. His jaw tightened, and I could see that he was already pissed off. But I didn’t know why, and I convinced myself that I didn’t need to care. He could do whatever he wanted. He was nothing to me. Tonight was for partying. Tonight was for having fun and forgetting about all the confusing feelings that had been messing with my head. I turned around and started walking away from him, my heels clicking on the floor. Behind me, I heard him call my name. “Skylar.” But I didn’t stop. I didn’t even slow down. I just kept walking, my chin held high. I was going to disobey him, and I didn’t care what he thought about it. “Stop,” Aria said in my mind. “You need to stop disobeying him. This is wrong.” But I didn’t listen to her either. I kept walking until I reached the front door, where Mel and Dwayne were waiting for me. They both looked amazing. Dwayne’s curly blonde hair looked perfect, and his hazel eyes were bright with excitement. He was wearing a nice shirt and jeans that made him look really handsome. Mel looked beautiful too. Her hair was shiny and styled in soft curls, and her emerald eyes were sparkling. She was wearing a pretty blue dress that showed off her figure. “Sky!” Mel said when she saw me. “You look incredible!” “Wow,” Dwayne said, his eyes going wide. “You look absolutely stunning.” I felt a little boost of confidence from their compliments. “Thank you. You both look great too.” We walked outside to where the car was waiting. The driver was already there, ready to take us to the venue. As we got into the car, I tried to push all thoughts of Adonis out of my mind. The drive to the party was fun. Mel was chattering excitedly about all the people we were going to see, and Dwayne kept telling me how beautiful I looked. By the time we arrived, I was feeling much better. The venue was amazing. It was a big hall with fancy decorations and music that you could feel in your chest. There were lights flashing in different colors, and the dance floor was already full of people having a good time. As soon as we walked in, I felt like all eyes were on me. People were staring at me, and I heard whispers as we passed. “Is that Skylar?” “She looks so beautiful.” “Look at those legs.” “That dress is perfect on her.” I felt like I was the center of attraction. My short red dress showed off my long legs, and my hair was perfectly styled. I felt beautiful and confident, which was exactly what I needed. We mingled with other people from other packs. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They kept complimenting my dress and telling me how good I looked. Dwayne stayed by my side the whole time, introducing me to his friends and making sure I always had something to drink. “You’re like a celebrity,” one of the men we met said to me. “Everyone can’t stop talking about how stunning you look.” I laughed and felt my cheeks get warm. “That’s very sweet of you to say.” We danced for a while, and I actually started to have a good time. The music was loud and fun, and being surrounded by all these people who seemed to like me made me feel good about myself. But as the night went on, I started to feel different. Not bad, exactly, but not completely okay either. Even though Dwayne was right there beside me, being sweet and attentive, I still felt like something was missing. I tried to ignore the feeling and just focus on having fun. I danced more, I laughed at jokes, I talked to new people. But no matter what I did, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t where I was supposed to be. I thought maybe if I drank enough, the uncomfortable feeling would go away. But it didn’t. If anything, it got worse. The more I drank, the more confused I felt. The room started to spin a little, and I felt hot and dizzy. “I need to use the restroom,” I told Dwayne, who was still right beside me. “Are you okay?” he asked, looking concerned. “You look a little pale.” “I’m fine,” I said, even though I wasn’t sure if that was true. “I just need a minute.” I made my way through the crowd toward the restroom. My legs felt wobbly, and I had to hold onto the wall to keep my balance. The alcohol was definitely affecting me more than I had expected. The restroom was down a hallway that was quieter and dimmer than the main party area. I was almost there when I heard footsteps behind me. “Hey, beautiful,” a voice said. I turned around and saw a man I didn’t recognize. He was tall and muscular, but something about him made me feel uncomfortable. His eyes were glassy, and I could smell alcohol on his breath. He was drunk. “Hi,” I said politely, trying to continue toward the restroom. But he stepped in front of me, blocking my path. “Where are you going in such a hurry?” “I was just going to the restroom,” I said, trying to move around him. He moved with me, still blocking my way. “What’s your name, gorgeous?” “I really need to go,” I said, starting to feel scared. “Come on, don’t be like that,” he said, reaching out to touch my arm. “I just want to talk to you.” I pulled my arm away from him. “Please leave me alone.” But instead of backing off, he stepped closer. His eyes were looking at my body in a way that made my skin crawl. “You look so good in that dress,” he said, his voice getting rougher. “I bet you wore it just for me.” “Get away from me.” I tried to reach out to Aria for help, but this time the man grabbed my arm hard. Before I knew what was happening, he pushed me back against the wall. “Let me go!” I said, trying to push him away. But he was much stronger than me, and the alcohol had made me weak and dizzy. He pinned me against the wall with his body, and I could feel his hands starting to tug at my dress. “Just calm down,” he said, his breath hot against my face. “This will be fun.” “No!” I said, trying to struggle against him. “Stop it!” But he was too strong, and I was too drunk. I felt his hands pulling at my dress, trying to push it up, and I realized with horror that I couldn’t get away from him. Fear shot through me like ice water. This was really happening. This drunk he-wolf was going to hurt me, and there was nothing I could do to stop him. I opened my mouth to scream, but the only name that came out was the last one I ever thought I would call for help. “Adonis!” I screamed as loud as I could. “Help me!” Suddenly, the man who had been pinning me to the wall was yanked backward. I heard a loud crash as he was thrown across the bathroom, hitting the wall on the other side. I slid down the wall I had been pressed against, my legs too shaky to hold me up. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it might burst out of my chest. Someone had saved me. Someone had thrown that horrible man away from me. But I was too scared and too drunk to look up and see who it was.
