Kisses

Chapter 16: /-Skylar’s POV-/ I was still sitting on the floor, my whole body shaking. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. My heart was still beating so fast I thought it might jump out of my chest. “Skylar.” Someone was calling my name. The voice was deep and familiar, but I was too scared to look up. I kept my head down, staring at my hands that were trembling in my lap. “Skylar, look at me.” Finally, I slowly lifted my head to see who was calling me. When I saw who it was, my breath caught in my throat. It was Adonis. But he looked completely different than I had ever seen him before. Instead of his usual fancy suits, he was wearing a tight black t-shirt that hugged his muscular body perfectly. His arms looked so strong, and I could see tattoos peeking out from under his sleeves. He was also wearing black pants that made his legs look long and powerful. He had piercings I had never noticed before, and his hair was a little messy, like he had been running his hand through it. He looked younger somehow, and more dangerous. He didn’t look like the Alpha I knew. He looked like someone my age, someone who should be my boyfriend instead of my stepfather. I didn’t know if it was the alcohol making me see things differently, or if it was something else. Something deeper. Something that made my heart race and my skin feel hot. “It’s the mate bond,” Aria whispered in my mind. “It’s finally kicking in properly.” I pushed her voice away, but I couldn’t stop staring at him. He looked so good it actually hurt to look at him. “Get up,” he said, his voice stern. But I couldn’t move. My legs felt like jelly, and I was still too shocked from what had happened. When I didn’t move, he reached down and pulled me up from the floor. His hands were warm and strong, and the moment he touched me, I felt like electricity was running through my body. “Don’t touch me,” I said, trying to pull away from him. But he ignored me completely. He pulled me up to my feet and steadied me when I swayed. I tried to struggle against him, but he was too strong. Before I knew what was happening, he bent down and threw me over his shoulder like I weighed nothing. “Put me down!” I shouted, beating my fists against his back. “Shut up,” he said calmly, like he was talking about the weather. “No! Let me go!” I kept struggling, trying to get away from him. I realized that my heels had fallen off my feet at some point during the struggle with that horrible man. Adonis bent down, still holding me over his shoulder, and picked up my red stilettos. He held them in one hand while keeping me steady with the other. I kept thrashing around, trying to get him to put me down. “Let me go! I can walk by myself!” Suddenly, I felt his hand come down hard on my ass. He had actually spanked me. “Ow!” I cried out, more from surprise than pain. “I told you to shut up,” he said, his voice still calm but with a dangerous edge to it. “Where is that little boyfriend of yours?” Adonis asked as we walked. “If I hadn’t come here, who knows what would have happened to you?” I didn’t answer him. I was too angry and embarrassed to speak. He carried me to the back door of the venue and walked outside to where his car was parked. It was a black sports car that looked expensive and powerful, just like him. He opened the passenger door and put me inside, then walked around to the driver’s seat. He tossed my heels into the back seat and started the engine. As we drove away from the party, I began to cry. I couldn’t help it. Everything that had happened tonight was too much. The fear, the confusion, the embarrassment, it all came pouring out. “Why are you doing this to me?” I asked through my tears. He glanced at me, his jaw tight. “Is that the thank you I get for saving you?” “I didn’t ask you to save me,” I said, crying harder. Suddenly, he pulled the car over to the side of the road. We were on a highway, and since it was so late at night, there were no other cars around. It was just us, alone in the darkness. He turned to face me, his dark eyes intense. “Skylar, when did you grow so much that you disobey me?” I wiped my tears with the back of my hand. “The moment you rejected me years ago.” His expression changed, becoming even more intense. “You haven’t let go of the past, have you?” “Never,” I said, my voice shaking with emotion. “I would never let go of it.” The alcohol was making me feel brave and stupid at the same time. I leaned forward, pushing my face closer to his. “Do you know what you did to me? Do you know how much you hurt me? I was just growing up, and you made me feel like I was nothing. You made me feel like I was disgusting and wrong for having feelings for you. And now you think you can just-” Before I could finish talking, his lips crashed against mine. He kissed me hard, pulling me toward him by my hair. His lips were warm and soft, and he tasted like mint and something else that was purely him. My brain completely shut down. I couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t do anything except feel his lips on mine. I knew I shouldn’t be doing this. I knew it was wrong. But Aria was practically purring in my mind. “Yes!” she said excitedly. “Kiss him back. He’s our mate. He’d always been our mate.” And before I could stop myself, I was kissing him back. My lips moved against his, and I felt like I was drowning in the best possible way. The kiss got heated quickly. He pulled back from me just long enough to push his seat back, then he grabbed my waist and pulled me over the center console. “Come here,” he said, his voice rough and deep. I found myself straddling him in the driver’s seat, my legs on either side of his hips. My short red dress had bunched up around my waist, and I could feel the cool air on my thighs. His hands wrapped around my waist, holding me steady. I could feel how warm his body was through his black t-shirt, and I wanted to touch him everywhere. The black lacy underwear I had chosen to wear under my dress was now visible against my fair skin. I should have been embarrassed, but all I could think about was how good it felt to be this close to him. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered against my lips, his hands moving up and down my back. I kissed him again, harder this time. All the years of wanting him, all the confusion and pain and longing, it was all pouring out in this kiss. His hands tangled in my hair, and he pulled my head back so he could look into my eyes. “Do you know what you do to me?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. I couldn’t answer him. I was too lost in the feeling of being in his arms, of finally getting what I had wanted for so long. “This is right,” Aria said in my mind. “This is where we belong.”
