Destroyed Pack

They walked out of the room still feeling as though their bodies were somehow connected. “You don’t have to punish me, Kael. I’m your wife,” she tried to tell him, hoping to escape the punishment. But Kael only looked at her and kept walking. Amaris was walking down the stairs, trying to organize her thoughts, when the mansion’s massive doors suddenly burst open. Daryl rushed inside. His breathing was uneven, and the look on his face immediately gave Amaris a terrible feeling. “Amaris!” She hurried down the rest of the stairs. “What happened?” she asked in alarm. “Are my parents okay?” Daryl clenched his jaw before answering. “No. Silverstream Pack was attacked.” Amaris felt her heart slam painfully against her chest. “What…?” “They destroyed a large part of the territory,” he continued, his voice filled with anger. “Your house was practically reduced to ruins, and Greyton and Sabrina are in terrible shape after all this.” All the color drained from Amaris’s face. “I need to go there right now.” She tried to move toward the exit, but Kael grabbed her arm before she could go any farther. “You’re not going anywhere.” Amaris looked at him in complete shock. “What are you talking about?” Daryl let out an irritated laugh. “Now you want to act like the tough Alpha? Her family was just attacked.” Kael’s eyes darkened immediately. “You have no right to interfere in my decisions.” “And you have no right to stop her from seeing her family.” The tension between them exploded instantly. Amaris quickly looked at Kael. “Please… let me go see my parents.” Kael didn’t answer, and that made her step closer to him. “You can punish me afterward if you still think I deserve it… but I need to see them.” Daryl immediately raised his eyebrows. “Punish you?” Amaris reacted at once. “It’s not what you think.” “Then explain what the hell that means.” Amaris sighed nervously. “It’s something my husband and I understand.” Daryl stared at her in obvious disbelief while Kael remained completely silent, watching Amaris carefully. But finally, he spoke. “I’m going with you.” Daryl let out a mocking laugh. “How noble of you.” Kael didn’t even bother responding. He simply walked toward the mansion’s exit. Amaris quickly followed him. Outside the entrance stood a reinforced black vehicle that looked almost military. Daryl glanced at the car and let out another sarcastic laugh. “So why don’t you turn into the big, terrifying black wolf you are? We’d get there in seconds.” Kael opened the vehicle door calmly. “I don’t waste unnecessary energy when I can handle things just as easily without transforming.” Daryl smirked sarcastically. “Or maybe you just want to show off your expensive toys.” Kael finally lifted his gaze toward him. “Maybe I should leave you here.” “Try it.” “That’s enough, both of you!” Amaris interrupted in frustration. “Please… let’s just go.” Daryl scoffed and climbed into the vehicle first. Amaris got in after him, and Kael took the seat beside her. Kael started the car, and seconds later they left Crimson Moon behind, heading toward Silverstream. Amaris watched the scenery rush past the window while her chest felt painfully tight. She couldn’t stop thinking about her parents. After several minutes on the road, they finally arrived at Silverstream. “My parents are over there,” she said before the vehicle had even fully stopped. The moment it did, Amaris threw the door open and practically ran outside. The smell of smoke still lingered in the air. Several houses were destroyed, and part of the territory remained covered in rubble. Pack members were trying to salvage what little remained while healers tended to the injured. A knot formed in Amaris’s throat at the sight of her home. “Mom! Dad!” Sabrina immediately lifted her head and ran toward her. The two embraced tightly. “Thank God you’re okay…” Amaris said, her voice trembling. “Yes, sweetheart,” Sabrina replied through tears. Amaris felt tears gathering in her own eyes. “What happened here?” Sabrina took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. “We were attacked while everyone was asleep. It happened so fast we barely had time to react.” Amaris turned her head, staring at the destruction around them. “Who could’ve done something like this?” Greyton slowly approached them, his face reflecting exhaustion and barely restrained anger. “I don’t know,” he answered with frustration. “But they destroyed almost everything.” Amaris felt helpless seeing him like that. “I’m so sorry, Dad…” Then she looked around again, trying to hold on to some hope. “But if there’s one good thing… it’s that you’re alive, and the rest of the pack is too.” Sabrina glanced around before responding. “There are several injured… but no one died.” Amaris closed her eyes for a second in relief and hugged her mother again. Then she hugged her father, Greyton, tightly as well. After a few seconds, Greyton lifted his gaze toward Kael, who stood silently near the vehicle, observing everything. And he decided to approach him. “Thank you for coming. I never expected to see you in this pack.” Kael looked at him for a few seconds before answering calmly. “Neither did I.” Then he looked around. “Don’t worry. Tonight, the members of Silverstream can stay in the cabins near Crimson Moon.” Greyton looked surprised, but Kael continued speaking. “And since you’re Amaris’s parents, you can stay at the mansion and rest.” Sabrina quickly stepped forward. “We don’t want to be a burden.” Kael shook his head slightly without hesitation. “You’re my wife’s parents.” The answer immediately made Amaris look at him. Kael continued speaking seriously. “And I’ll send men tonight to start rebuilding everything from this very moment. Your pack will be able to return tomorrow. Everything will be ready by sunset.” Greyton looked completely stunned, and Sabrina even seemed emotional. Amaris watched Kael silently for a few seconds before stepping closer to him. “Thank you, Kael.” He barely looked at her. “It’s nothing.” His tone was still serious, but this time Amaris noticed it didn’t sound entirely cold. Kael turned his gaze back to Greyton. “Lead your pack to the cabins and get some rest tonight.” Greyton nodded immediately. “We will. Thank you, Alpha.” Daryl let out a mocking little laugh as he crossed his arms. “The great Alpha Kael showing compassion… no one would believe something like that.” Kael looked at him without reacting. “I don’t need you to believe anything.” Daryl snorted in amusement. Then, unexpectedly, Kael took Amaris’s hand. “Let’s get back to the car.” Then he looked toward Sabrina. “We’ll take your mother with us. Daryl can help Greyton organize the pack.” Daryl raised both eyebrows. “And when exactly did I agree to that?” “Just now.” Amaris couldn’t help a small, exhausted smile. “Alright,” she said at last. Kael guided her back toward the vehicle while Sabrina followed behind them. Daryl stayed there watching them with obvious annoyance while Greyton tried to suppress a small laugh. Shortly after, the vehicle doors closed, and they began the journey back to Crimson Moon.
