A month and three days later
‘As you open your eyes, things that you used to know have already changed. Come and find me, my beloved one.’
As those words rang into Vanessa’s ears, she began to feel something was moving inside of her. It might have frightened her a little but when she felt the sudden rush passing through her veins, she could tell that it was healing her drastically. Her operated broken rib cage began to mend like it’s not even broken. The muscles and tissues surrounding it were also healed up but leaving some deep scars on her skin which overall, she was already healed. Slowly, her body began to twitch, her breathing became regular, and her eyes finally decided to open. From darkness to light, her eyes stung a little but it was getting clearer as it got used to the light itself. Slowly, turning her head from right to left only to realize that she’s on the hospital since all she could see were cream walls, white curtains, hanging television, small fridge underneath the tv, small table next to her bed and two comfy couches; one was next to the small table as for the other was on right side of her bed. As her eyes saw what she needed to see and her mind did some thinking which made groaned in some pain coming from her head.
Images. Voices. Laughter. Warmth. Scents.
‘Arian, what do you think of living-in with me?’
“Who is Arian?” Vanessa asked herself when she heard her own voice speak to someone she could remember.
‘Don’t you think it’s too early for that, Nes?’
‘Well, I’m feeling complete whenever you’re around.’
‘So am I but it doesn’t change the fact that you’re asking me too early.’
‘Then when do you think was the right time?’
‘Well, to be honest, I can’t stay much long in the city. One day, I’ll show you my world.’
‘Wow, world. Nice. Take me there and let’s stroll to your lovely kingdom.’
‘Oh Nes, only if you knew.’
‘Well, we will get there in time, like you said.’
‘Yeah…’
“What the heck was that? I don’t know who was that Arian...and seriously, I’m not gay...or am I?” Vanessa asked herself once again as some flashing memories which she seriously, couldn’t remember at all.
It was hurting her head too much which made her push the red button to call for a nurse since she couldn’t take the pain that’s bugging her head. When the nurse came to her aid and gave her a pain reliever that her doctor prescribed but she needed to take some meal before drinking it since it would put her back to sleep for more. Vanessa did what she was told and ate the hospital meal that was prepared for her before taking the medicine into her system. Like what the nurse explained to her, she was really dozing off and wanting for another round of sleep.
In Vanessa’s dream, she was definitely happy and excited as she exited her studio apartment. She drove her dark grey M5 BMW Sedan to some place she couldn’t remember but she was happy until another car hit hers which made both cars stumbled in the middle of the intersection road. She groaned in pain as her breathing was also shortening but she still had some strength to get out of the car and check the other driver who was unconscious. Immediately, she called for an emergency but everything in her was losing.
“Dammit...Arian...I have to call her…” Vanessa mumbled weakly until she saw a figure and held her delicately which she felt so warm as well protected but it's odd at the same time. She didn’t know who it was until she heard she spoke in a foreign language then darkness took her.
As her mind played that as her dream, she was suddenly taken into another space in which only total darkness existed or that was what she thought. She kept walking into another dark space until she could see some warm water that was flowing beneath her. She looked at it and it wasn’t water but blood. She was confused but intrigued about where it was coming. She followed the flow of the blood coming into another space which the darkness began to lessen. There she saw tons of different kind trees and a ruined mansion.
“How did a house appear in the middle of a forest?” Vanessa asked herself as she looked at the ruined mansion that seriously looked creepy but there something caught her attention.
A white shadow?
Vanessa was staring that the white shadow on the second floor of the house until she heard some howling not far from where she was standing. She immediately run toward the house and knocked the door but there’s no one inside. She entered the house and stayed there but the next she knew that she was knocked down by a white shadow and it was crying. Vanessa wanted to push away whoever this creature was but she didn’t instead, out of the blue, she hugged it and caressed its back like she was trying to calm this creature.
“I don’t know you but please stop crying.” Vanessa said with her low but caring voice which made the creature jolted.
‘Are you sure?’
“Yes, plus, I can’t even see your face aside from that you’re a white shadow.” She answered honestly while looking around the ruined mansion.
The house indeed ruined but inside it was just a typical house with a huge floor plan. But it has less furniture as some of it was being covered by huge cloth.
‘I see...then in the right time...we will meet again...for now heal up...you're still dreaming...but I’ll be watching you...my love.’
“Wait, what?” Vanessa asked confusedly which made the creature sitting on her lap giggled then everything around her suddenly felt light. So light which made her jolted as she heard some voices coming from the television.
Vanessa groaned and woke up from her weird dream before she looked around her till her eyes landed at her left. It was her superior who was already in his 50s and totally matured though he still had his handsome looking face which made him look just around in his mid 40s. He has a toned and well maintained physically fit body which some of their colleagues drool over him though he’s already happily married with two beautiful children. Vanessa knew them very well since they were related some long time ago but nobody knew their personal relationship as godfather and niece. They kept it low profile because envies and gossips would heat up if they knew.
“Finally. Do you feel any better than earlier?” Her uncle s***h godfather and Chief police asked in his raspy voice which never gets old into Vanessa’s ears.
“Yeah...what are you doing here, Chief?” Vanessa answered and asked him in return which made me turn off the tv before getting something in his bag.
“Here’s the documents you need for your transfer and later tonight, one of the elite forces will drop by and talk to you about it.” He answered while watching Vanessa’s reaction which definitely looked dead-fish as always. Poker face.
“Do you remember what we talked about before you got in an accident?” He asked which made Vanessa sigh.
“Not everything though but I remembered something about it and I was totally excited for my transfer. Speaking off, when will I be transferring?” Vanessa asked which made him chuckle.
“You can ask them tonight. Read it. Everything you need to know about the promotion was written there but if you have other concerns regarding it, ask them later. I have to go since there are some cases that I need to deal with.” He answered before patting her shoulder and left her hospital room.
As Vanessa was left alone once again, she began to read the file that her superior gave to her.
Dear Miss Vanessa Eri Santos,
We like to inform you that we’ve already read all of your reports in every case that you’ve handled and we were impressed. You’re excellent in your field as a police detective and we need more like you in the society which we would like to offer a promotion. We would like you to transfer at the DIP headquarters as one of our Elite forces.
We also attached along with this letter the guide form that needs to be filled only if willing to join. For further information, we will send one of our topnotch elite enforcers to explain what you need to know before entering the headquarters.
Hope you’ll join our headquarters.
With respect,
DIP Vicente Hills Branch
When she finished reading it, she looked at the form and she was surprised to see a biodata fill-up form which made her smirked like everything was a bluff but the news came from her superior and she received a letter fully addressed to her. She released a deep sighed before reading it once again for another two hours but she was still doubting herself.
“What to do...I know I wanted that promotion but...there was something in me that really disturbed and my memories were still a blur.” Vanessa thought to herself when she suddenly felt warm onto her left like there was something or someone was watching her but there was none. She was totally alone in her hospital room.
Vanessa ignored that weird sensation and let her eyes rest for a moment but she couldn't. She could see a blurry image of a lady staring at her. She knew that lady but she couldn't remember exactly who it was or even its name.
“Maybe that lady was Arian...but who’s Arian?” Vanessa asked herself when something stung her eyes. It was irritating over something but it wasn’t.
She tried to move off from the bed since she wanted to take some pee. Carefully and slowly she managed to sit up from her bed, then down she was standing while holding her dextrose. She took it with her inside the comfort room and took a pee. As she was done peeing, she went to the vanity to wash her hands but she suddenly gasped when she saw a really big difference in her left eye.
“Why is it amber?” Vanessa asked in her puzzled tone and she might have sounded like not freaking out when she said it like that but deep inside, her heart was beating like a sledgehammer.
