DIP: Tainted Blood [stop - TO BE EDIT]

Chapter 3

In the deepest part of Vanessa’s dream, she was on her duty as police detective of their department when she started handling such a dangerous case which led her to take a life threatening risk on going inside the forbidden forest all by herself. She has to do that as she follows the tracks of her dead victim not far from the crime scene. She kept on following it like she was the one being haunted but only in backtracks. But when the tracks suddenly stopped, she began to look around where she was. Her eyes landed on the only ruins within the forest which also looked like an old abandoned mansion. She wanted to take another step but something was stopping her from taking one. As she looked on her feet, she was surprised to see blood wrapped around her feet and it was alive. It was crawling up to her legs which alarmed her a lot. She forced herself to move and run toward the old ruin mansion but she couldn’t dash forward since the moving blood was like a sticky slime that can’t be easily got rid of. But she still moved forward toward the mansion. She was just an inch close to the door knob when the moving blood finally reached her left side of her face and hit her left eye which exactly she finally opened the door of the mansion. As she opened the door, she began to stumble and rolled on the ground till she hit the fireplace inside the mansion.

She felt the pain from her fall but as she recalled the creepy blood earlier, she began to remove her top clothing and her pants only to be horrified on her tainted skin. It was totally blood veins which she thought she could remove by wiping it off but nothing happened. Her heart began to beat irregularly and she suddenly felt an agonizing heat like she was burning but not. She began to curse but more on screaming which made some tears left in her eyes. She curled up on the tiled flooring when she saw a feet moving toward her. She wanted to fight whoever was it but she can’t because of the burning pain moving inside of her. As she was being held into somebody’s arms, she suddenly felt at ease. It puzzled her but she’s finally relaxed and the last thing she heard from whoever was holding her protectively.

‘You shouldn’t be here alone at night my love…’

As if on cue, Vanessa suddenly woke up from her terrifying dream which she felt so real. She was sweating and panting at the same time which made her take a deep breathe to calm her sledgehammer heart beat. When her heartbeat finally settled down, she definitely felt someone’s careful eyes watching her. Looked at where it was coming, there was a shadow of a lady. She knew it was a lady because of the body figure but there was something about its look. It wasn’t threatening but more on just careful watching but a sudden knock woke her up from staring at the dark part of her room since the nurse from last night dimmed some part of the room.

“Good morning, did you sleep well?” the nurse from last night greeted me and asked me as she entered the room.

“Morning and yes, I did.” Vanessa answered even she’s not sleep that well because of her weird dream. Good thing, she managed to calm herself down.

“Good to hear. Your doctor will come here any moment now since you’re on her first patient at 4:30 am.” The nurse told Vanessa as she checked her dextrose before checking her watch which made her do the same.

Vanessa saw the digital clock underneath the television and it surprised her to see that it was just 3:05 in the morning.

“Is she the one who did the operation to me? Can I know my doctor’s name?” Vanessa asked in her curious tone since she never met any doctors since she woke up aside from two nurses who assisted since she woke up and this nurse aiding her.

“Right, you never got a chance to meet her and yes, she’s the one who handled your operation. She’s our very young surgeon in this hospital and her name is Marian Ibarra.” The nurse said with admiration in her tone while she checked Vanessa’s blood pressure.

“How young?” Vanessa asked again in her curious voice since the nurse that was aiding her right now was full of admiration toward her doctor.

“Well, not sure but maybe you could ask her.” The nurse answered while smiling at her.

“Right. Anyway, can I know when I will be able to be released from here?” She asked her nurse again who was checking the time again before writing something on Vanessa’s record.

“Well, it depends on your doctor and how your body fully recovers.” The nurse answered her honestly since only her doctor could say when she’s ready to be released from the hospital.

“I see. Thank you.” Vanessa smiled as she nodded as the sign of her gratitude from answering her questions.

“Your welcome. Call me if you need anything.” The nurse said with a genuine smile to her.

“Thanks.” Vanessa said then the nurse finally closed the door of her room and again, Vanessa was left alone. Alone in her own thoughts regarding the form that was waiting for her to fill-up.

Vanessa took the file again just to take another read and thought about it when she groaned exactly there’s another knock caught her attention.

“Come in.” Vanessa answered the knock and she was glad to see her partner.

“I got your missed call and the Chief told me to visit you and I noticed that you’ve been bothered by something again.” Her partner said as he entered the room and took the liberty to sit on her right side couch.

His partner was on his duty since he was wearing their uniform and she also noticed that he turned chubby the last time they were together. He might be still beautiful for a man in his 30’s but it doesn’t change the fact that he has the face of a 25 years old but what caught Vanessa’s attention was his belly. The last time he saw him he was a totally hot and well-fit kind of guy though he loves sweet donuts but still has a well maintained body.

“Don’t say anything about how I look.” His partner said as he noticed a little shock on Vanessa's face when she got a very good look on his old partner.

“Funny but how did you get fat like that? Don’t tell me no one was telling you to stop eating donuts while on the road.” Vanessa said as she called their times on the road and always never forget to get some donuts while they’re on duty.

“Nothing slipped on my old partner. Donut is my life and you know that.” His partner chuckled since VAnessa was the only one who could stop him from eating too much of his favorite donut.

“Darn it. If you like donuts that much why not look for low carbs and low calories donuts.” Vanessa reminded his old partner who just scratched the back of his head.

“Hey! That won’t do.” He countered as he pouted which made Vanessa laughed

“I know, sweet tooth. Still look at you. Did she ditch you because of your weight?:” Vanessa chuckled but turned serious when she mentioned his girlfriend.

“VERNZ! Of course not...I think?” He countered again with sad eyes which made Vanessa sigh before patting the vacant spot on her bed.

“Oh s**t, she did? Oh my, if that’s the case then don’t dwell on it too much. Her lost.” Vanessa said as he went closer to her pointed spot.

“Well, I am trying to, that's why I couldn’t answer your call since I’ve been taking cases after cases. You know just to ease the pain a little.” He said with a little longing within his tone.

“I got you there buddy.” Vanessa patted his shoulder which he needed.

“Anyway, I am here, because I heard from the Chief your promotion and transfer to Vicente Hill.” He changed the subject as he also noticed the paper on her lap.

“Yes, and I’m a little dwelling on it. I’m wondering whether to take it or not...just torn.” Vanessa sighed heavily while staring on the recieved file in front of her.

“But you’ve been dreaming about it since forever, so, why back down?” He asked which made Vanessa sighed heavily once again.

“I don’t know...there’s some missing piece in my memories of that incident and a certain person...it was so blur.” Vanessa said defeatedly.

“Ah, your ‘soon to be your girlfriend’.” He teasingly said to his partner.

“Did I say that?” Vanessa asked curiosity.

“Yes, and you’re head over heels over that girlfriend of yours.” He teased once again but he noticed that Vanessa isn’t smiling one bit since they talked about her ‘girlfriend’.

“Then how come I couldn’t remember a thing about her and if I do, it's blurred.” Vanessa sadly sighed to her partner which made him patted her shoulder.

“Did I introduce her to you?” Vanessa asked him.

“Yes you did and she’s one of the doctors here but I didn’t get a chance to know her since we’re on duty when you decided to drop her lunch. Honestly, you cooked for her.” He answered as he recalled what Vanessa did back then.

“Wow...I never thought I would cook.” Vanessa slightly giggled from hearing it.

“Me either anyway, about your promotion, I think you have to take it. You know to change pace plus, you might know, it could help you recall some figment of your memories if you do.” His partner advised her which made her think of it carefully.

“Well, you might be right…” Vanessa sighed while smiling.

“Plus, take the Chief’s advice, it will help the department as well if we have contact with some people inside DIP.” He continued while smiling at his partner since he knew that she really wanted to be promoted and work at DIP headquarters.

“Alright...I’ll think more about it.” Vanessa agreed while looking at the file once again.

“Good and let me excuse myself now, since I’m gonna be on duty any minute by now.” He said as he stood up before kissing her forehead.

“Okay, take care.” Vanessa said while smiling as her partner stopped in front of the door.

“Decide, Dude. Take your balls back like you always have.” He teased but he also knew that his old partner needed that one.

“Funny but I will.” Vanessa chuckled at his partner's last advice which she knew very well that she was a risk taker whenever she’s in her zone at work.

As her old partner left her room, she took the file again and about to take the pen when another knock echoed in her room which made her look at the time underneath the television.

“Ah, my doctor.” Vanessa thought to herself and she didn’t understand to herself while there’s a smile forming into her lips.

“Come in.” Vanessa said which made the person who knocked open the door.

“Well, good thing, you're finally awake.” Her doctor said with such a melodic voice that made Vanessa’s heart skip a beat and it was hard for some odd reason she doesn’t understand.

“What a beauty…” Vanessa whispered to herself while staring at her doctor.

“I’m Marian Ibarra, your surgeon and I’m here to talk to you about your surgery…” Her doctor introduced herself while walking closer to her bed which totally did not help her heart beat.
