Freya’s POV
He said he would go with me. That he would give up his entire pack for me, a lonely fairy. I wouldn't allow him to do that, but he had a right to know why I had to leave.
“I don’t even know where to start.” That was the truth. How do I even start the story that is called my life?
“From the beginning.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at him, but he was right.
“I was born in Farie 24 years ago to Alina and Dain Ivy. My parents ruled over Farie as the strongest earth fairies to ever be mated. Most fairies find their mates at 14. My parents found each other at 10.”
“They met at the age of 10? That is crazy.”
“It only made their bond stronger and, as the current rulers had not been able to produce an heir, they approached my parents before I was born.”
Looking up at him, I found my strength to continue.
“Fairies don’t tend to mate outside of our element. Earth with earth, fire with fire and so on. It did happen, but it was rare. Then my parents had me. At first, everything was great because all fairies can pop and conjure or blink.”
“Can all fairies shape shift?”
“Yes, but not for a long period of time. I, however, can shape shift for days, which makes me a freak.” I said, letting it slip.
“You are not a freak or maybe you are?” He said, kissing me and wiggling his eyebrows. Causing me to roll mine.
“Thankfully, nobody knows how long I can shift. From a young age, we are taught how to use our powers. Since both my parents are both earth fairies and I was trained as an earth fairy.”
“That doesn’t sound too bad.”
“Not yet. When I was 7, I realized I could manipulate water. Which is rare and I have seen how Fairies with two elements were treated and it wasn’t good. So I kept it quiet. Then, when I was 9, I was able to control the wind. Again I was scared and kept it a secret even from my parents.”
“That is a lot for a child to have to hide.” Mark said, kissing my forehead.
“You have no idea. But it wasn’t till I was 13 that I really started to worry. I was so angry seeing a group of sky fairies pick on one of the halfbreed fairies.”
“Is that what they call the fairies with two elements?”
“Yeah…I was so mad I shot fire from my hands and the entire class saw it.”
“So you became a halfbreed?”
“Yeah, and it caused my partner to fight. Which does’t make sense because, as a fairy, you can sense your family. So my Father had to know I was his, but he wouldn’t admit that his or my mother’s family had a halfbreed.”
“Is that why you ran away?”
“No…I…I accidentally got caught playing with my water power by my dad shortly after I turned 15. Something inside of him snapped. The thing about being a fairy is your power is sort of like your wolf. The power is able to work with me on its own in a way. So my father decided to find out what powers I was capable of using.”
I couldn’t help but stop. It had been years since I thought about what my father did to me and I had never spoken about it.
“What did he do baby?” He asked, pulling me closer.
“He allowed me to be tortured. For days, I fought back using all my powers except earth, but my power would take over to save me. He would allow his advisors to bring me to the brink of death and so many times I begged him to just let me die, but he never did.”
He kissed me softly and wiped away tears I had not realized had fallen.
“For two years he experimented on me and tortured me. While my mother sat back and watched. I don’t think she agreed with what he was doing, but she never once tried to help me. But to be honest, she stopped coming to see me right after I turned 16.”
“Come to see you?”
“Once my father realized I could control all 4 elements, he locked me away and started experimenting so he knew how to defeat or control all fairies without other fairies knowing. No pure breed element fairy would allow another to figure out their weakness. With me, my father didn’t have to worry about anybody knowing.”
“How did you get away?”
“Very few fairies knew about what my father was doing except his personal advisors. There was one fairy, Alfred, who was kind to me compared to the rest. When I was on the brink of death, he would help me and he heard my father talking about his next experiment. Alfred couldn’t even talk about what he wanted to do to me and he helped me escape. He used his power to open the portal to this realm so they could not track me.”
“Do you think he got caught for helping you?”
I couldn’t help but giggle. “No part of the plan was for me to knock him out and tie him up, so they thought I had just got out. For the first couple of years, I moved around a lot and almost got caught a couple of times. Not because they knew where I was, but because I used too much power and led them to me. I have to stay diligent because I know they are still hunting me. That is why I visit other supernatural species. I can always find out where and when and keep moving.”
“I am so sorry you went through all of that, but I will never let something like that to happen to you again.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Freya… I do know and I can.”
“Fairies are powerful and they don’t fight fairly. I can’t put you all in danger for me. I have to keep moving. If you need to reject me, I understand,” I said, looking down.
A low growl vibrated from Mark’s chest. “I will never reject you. Can we stay the night and allow me time to say goodbye?”
I was in shock. He was serious about going with me. Could I really let him walk away from his family? All I could do was shake my head yes.
“Great. Now let’s go get some food and I will introduce you to my pack.”
We made our way to the dining hall and a hush fell over the people surrounding the table. Mark smiled down at me and pulled out a chair for me.
“Welcome to the Royal pack. I’m Alpha Bryan and this is my Luna Olivia.” He said, smiling over at the beautiful blonde sitting next to him.
“Thank you.”
They continued to introduce me to the rest of the table and I realized this pack was special and it gave me all the more reason to leave. I couldn’t put these people in danger because of me.
